  • Patent number: 4741851
Abstract: A non-caking, non-tacky and free-flowing particulate bleaching detergent composition includes a synthetic organic nonionic detergent, such as a polyethoxylated higher fatty alcohol or alkylphenol, a builder for the nonionic detergent, such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium silicate, sodium carbonate or a cation-exchanging sodium aluminosilicate (zeolite), or mixtures thereof, together with a sodium perborate hydrate bleaching agent, the degree of hydration of which corresponds to that of the monohydrate or less, such as 12 to 15%. The described composition, unlike similar compositions wherein the sodium perborate hydrate is the tetrahydrate, are non-caking, non-tacky and free-flowing after storage in a sealed container at elevated temperature, e.g., four weeks at 43.degree. C., whereas a similar product in which the sodium perborate hydrate is the tetrahydrate is caked solid after such treatment.

  • Patent number: 4741842
Abstract: Particulate heavy duty detergent compositions, particularly for imparting improved softness and detersive effects to fabrics laundered therewith, include in addition to conventional builder and principally anionic surfactant components, particulate cationic softener of the di-lower-di-higher alkyl quaternary ammonium and/or heterocyclic imide type, e.g. imidazolinium, in admixture with an ethoxylated tertiary amine softener/dispersing agent, such as N-tallow tertiary amine ethoxylated with from about 2 to 15 moles of ethylene oxide. The cationic softener-ethoxylated amine mixture is in the form of a spaghetti, flake, or other shape and is present in the product composition as substantially homogeneously dispersed, discrete particles. A process of laundering fabrics using the above-mentioned composition is also described.

  • Patent number: 4735673
Abstract: This machine is intended for bonding stretched pieces of elastic band to a moving sheet so that these pieces extend transversely relative to the direction of movement of this sheet. The pieces are transferred from a cutting station to a stretching station by means of a transfer station. The stretching station comprises several pairs of grippers distributed around an axis about which they are driven in rotation. The grippers of one and the same pair are arranged axially opposite one another and are designed to be successively moved away from, and close to, one another so that, during their rotation, they grip the lateral ends of the pieces subsequently stretching the latter by moving axially away from one another. Once stretched, the pieces are bonded to the sheet entrained about a drum at the moment when the grippers pass opposite this sheet. The invention is used for the production of a composite sheet intended for providing diapers.

  • Patent number: 4725455
Abstract: A particulate built nonionic synthetic organic detergent composition includes a detersive proportion of a nonionic synthetic organic detergent and a building proportion, in combination, of a polyacetal carboxylate builder for the nonionic detergent and a polyphosphate builder for such nonionic detergent. Such compositions are readily made by adding polyacetal carboxylate builder to the formula of a control detergent composition, with corresponding diminutions of other component(s), and have detersive powers superior to such control despite the decrease in detergent and other builders. Preferably, certain nonionic detergents, polyacetal carboxylate builders and polyphosphate, in certain proportions, are employed for better detergency and physical characteristics, e.g., flowability.

  • Patent number: 4721633
Abstract: A process is described in which a particulate detergent composition which is speckled in appearance is made by spraying an aqueous coloring medium, such as dye solution, containing polyacrylic acid, onto the surface of a moving bed of detergent composition particles containing an alkaline builder, thereby forming a coherent colored surface section or "skin" of detergent composition particles. The coherent section or skin of particles is next broken up and the colored particles are mixed with uncolored particles from the bed to make the speckled detergent composition. Normally, the bed of detergent composition particles is on a moving conveyer belt, which conveyer belt is preferably a weigh-belt, and the amount of coloring medium being sprayed onto the moving bed is automatically regulated by the weight of detergent composition particles on the belt passing under the spray nozzle(s), and the belt speed.

  • Patent number: 4715862
Abstract: A wash cycle fabric conditioning composition, which makes laundry washed in an automatic washing machine and dried in an automatic laundry dryer resistant to the accumulation of static charges thereon, and which may be in particulate, liquid, or other suitable form, comprises an antistatic N-higher alkyl neoalkanamide or an antistatic N-higher alkenyl neoalkanamide, or a mixture thereof, and a detergent builder, such as a water soluble builder salt or a zeolite, or a mixture thereof, as a carrier, or an aqueous medium containing a nonionic surface active agent. Specifically preferred neoalkanamides of the type described are N-higher alkyl neodecanamides, such as tallowalkyl neodecanamide. In some instances, bentonite may be included in the particulate compositions to soften the fabrics that are washed, and tertiary amines may be formulated into the liquid compositions to increase fabric softening action.

  • Patent number: 4715969
Abstract: A fabric softening heavy duty liquid detergent composition of controlled viscosity, which does not thicken excessively on aging, includes certain proportions of sodium linear higher alkylbenzene sulfonate, sodium alkyl polyethoxy sulfate, builder salt (highly preferably a mixture of sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium carbonate), finely divided swelling bentonite, low molecular weight polyacrylate and water. Such product is a stable pourable liquid of desired viscosity, density and pH, convenient for use in washing machines, for hand washing of laundry and for pre-treatment of badly soiled portions of items to be laundered. The presence of a small percentage of the polyacrylate in the composition prevents the viscosity thereof from increasing on storage to such an extent as would interfere with pourability.

Abstract: Polyamides of trialkylacetic acids and polyamines are new compounds which are of an oily nature at washing temperatures in the 10.degree. to 90.degree. C. range, are capable of being adsorbed from wash and rinse waters by fibrous material, such as laundry, of synthetic fabrics, e.g., polyesters, which laundry is susceptible to being electrostatically charged, and decrease any electrostatic charge or inhibit accumulation thereof on such materials. Such polyamides, e.g., those of neodecanoic acid and ethylene diamine or hexamethylene diamine, N,N'-ethylene-bis-neodecanoamide and N,N'-hexamethylene-bis-neodecanoamide, respectively, can be incorporated in detergent compositions, in compositions for addition to rinse waters and in compositions for application to laundry in a laundry dryer.

  • Patent number: 4604280
Abstract: A method for stabilizing a cosmetic composition containing carrageenan, specifically, a toothpaste, wherein microwave radiation, preferably in the 0.8 to 3 gigahertz frequency range, is directed onto the toothpaste so as to raise its temperature to at least the gel-sol transition temperature of the carrageenan, after which the toothpaste is quiescently cooled to room temperature. The use of microwave radiation facilitates an even heating of the toothpaste, so that temperature sensitive components thereof are not adversely affected, and promotes excellent control of temperature regulation. Heating of the dentifrice, with improved thickening and stabilization thereof, is obtainable by passing it through a conduit while directing microwave radiation onto it and then filling it into suitable dispensing containers, or by filling the dentifrice into such containers and then subjecting them to microwave radiation.
