  • Patent number: 7328719
Abstract: A sensing module for a fluid valve utilizes a sensor body having a sensing chamber. An extension member is fixedly coupled to a main valve element, is slidable within the sensing chamber along a first axis, and has an inclined cam surface. A plunger has a cam follower for engaging the cam surface and is slidable along a second axis between a first position when the valve element is in its deactuated position and a second position when the valve element is in its actuated position. The plunger is exposed to the sensing chamber. A sensing switch is coupled to the plunger for generating a switch signal indicative of the first and second positions. The valve body and the sensing body cooperate to form a fluid passage between the outlet port and the sensing chamber, and the plunger moves to the second position when the valve element is in the deactuated position if a fluid pressure greater than a predetermined pressure is present at the outlet port.

  • Patent number: 7223198
Abstract: A carrier assembly for a planetary gearset of a transmission includes a pinion carrier, a one-way brake having a rocker ring integral with the carrier and having multiple pockets mutually spaced about an axis and located on an outer radial surface of the carrier. A cam ring includes multiple notches angularly spaced about the axis and facing the rocker ring. A rocker, located in each pocket, pivots about a pivot center to engage the cam ring, and a spring urges each rocker to pivot toward engagement with the cam ring. A hydraulically actuated friction brake secured to the carrier alternately holds the carrier against rotation relative to a housing and permits the carrier to rotate.

  • Patent number: 7194398
Abstract: An assembly 10 which allows a vehicular damper to be virtually created and evaluated. Particularly, the assembly 10 includes a torque producer 31, a frequency filter generator 50, and analyzers 32, 34, 36 and 38. The torque produce 31 selectively produces a torque signal which is combined with a selected frequency filter provided by the generator 50, thereby producing a dampened signal which is communicated to a transmission assembly 14. The analyzer detects noise and vibration and allows a designer to evaluate the chosen frequency filter. Other filters may be used and a filter is selected based upon the noise and vibration measurements made by the analyzers 32, 34, 36, and 38. An actual damper is then constructed having a frequency characteristic which is substantially similar to the frequency characteristic of the chosen frequency filter.

  • Patent number: 7155793
Abstract: The method includes the steps of determining a number of gear teeth for each gear and pinion that, in combination, would produce desired gear ratios. Current gearset parameters including distances and angles relating the positions of the gears and pinions are determined. For a predetermined angular rotation of a selected gear or pinion, and using the current gearset parameters, an error is determined representing a difference in phases of a tooth on the selected gear or pinion into its mesh cycle. A first phase is determined along a first portion of a drive path of meshing gears and pinions, and a second phase is determined along a second portion of the drive path distinct from the first portion. One or more of the current gearset parameters are repetitively changed to determine a set of correspond optimal gearset parameters, for which the error is equal to or less than an acceptable error. Then a gearset having the optimal gearset parameters is produced.

  • Patent number: 7147239
Abstract: A system according to this invention opposes creep in a hydraulic hybrid motor vehicle. An accumulator contains fluid at high pressure, and a reservoir contains fluid at lower pressure. An engine produces positive torque at the wheels during an engine idle condition, and a pump/motor, driveably connected to the wheels and the engine, has a variable volumetric displacement pumps fluid to the accumulator from the reservoir. A control system determines a magnitude of negative torque transmitted from the wheels to the pump/motor that would exceed the magnitude of positive torque, determines the volumetric displacement of the pump/motor corresponding to the magnitude of negative torque, changes the displacement of the pump/motor to the required displacement, and operates the pump/motor as a pump driven by negative torque from the wheels to pump fluid from the reservoir to the accumulator.

  • Patent number: 7089102
Abstract: An automatic transmission ratio shift control system and method for a powertrain having an engine and multiple-ratio gearing controlled by friction elements actuated by hydraulic pressure, an electronic controller for establishing torque transitions among the friction elements as the gear ratio changes, the engine speed being controlled by an electronic throttle control. The strategy employs an electronic throttle and closed loop engine speed control and uses fuel and air as an energy source to increase engine speed during a power-off downshift. The engine speed is boosted to a level close to the synchronous speed in conjunction with release of the off-going friction element. The on-coming friction element is then applied as the engine speed approaches a desired speed. The engine speed increase is timed to lead an increase in torque converter speed.

  • Patent number: 7077776
Abstract: A heat exchanger integrated into the transmission oil pan transfers heat from post-catalyst exhaust gases to the transmission oil. Inlet and outlet ducts route exhaust gas between the heat exchanger and an exhaust pipe located downstream of the catalyst. The exhaust pipe accommodates a control valve that diverts exhaust gas flow to the heat exchanger during the warm-up phase, or to the tailpipe during steady state operation. A control function is provided to monitor transmission oil temperature and engine operating conditions and to control actuation of the valve. • Patent number: 7077080
Abstract: A free piston engine has a pair of opposed cylinders on opposite sides of a fluid pumping assembly. An inner piston assembly includes a pair of inner pistons, one each in a respective one of the cylinders, with a push rod connected therebetween. The push rod forms a fluid plunger. An outer piston assembly includes a pair of outer pistons, one each in a respective one of the cylinders, with a pull rod connected therebetween. The pull rod forms a fluid plunger. The movement of the inner and outer piston assemblies during engine operation will cause the fluid plungers to pump fluid from a low pressure container into a high pressure chamber as a means of storing the energy output. A hydraulic coupler synchronizes the inner and outer piston assemblies.
