  • Patent number: 7403704
Abstract: A dual-channel fluid temperature control apparatus controls temperature of cardiac fluids during surgery using power from an electrical convenience outlet having a power limit. A first pump receives a first heat exchange fluid to selectively pump the first heat exchange fluid within a first circulation channel. A second pump receives a second heat exchange fluid to selectively pump the second heat exchange fluid within a second circulation channel. A first heater unit comprises a first plurality of independently actuatable heating elements each having a respective power consumption. A second heater unit comprises a second plurality of independently actuatable heating elements each having a respective power consumption. A controller selectably actuates the first and second pumps and the first and second pluralities of heating elements to selectably heat or cool the first and second heat exchange fluids such that power draw of all activated pumps and heating elements is maintained within the power limit.

  • Patent number: 7359743
Abstract: A system for monitoring tissue pH calculates and displays integrated pH values over one or more user-selectable integration time periods. The values can be displayed in a numerical and/or graphical format. In the graphical format, measured values of pH are displayed as curves. A cursor can be positioned along the curves to display an instantaneous measured value at any point. The integration periods are highlighted relative to the curves. If the cursor is positioned within a region corresponding to an integration period, the display indicates the integrated value of pH from the start of that integration period to the time corresponding to the position of the cursor.

  • Patent number: 7148786
Abstract: A network communication and messaging protocol for use in a medical perfusion system, provides the rules which govern how, among other things, information and data is conveyed between the various devices which are connect to the network. The rules define the different types of messages that are used in conveying information and data, as well as the formatting for each of those message types. The various messages provide the ability to configure the perfusion system devices, establish links between the perfusion system devices, and convey various types of information and data, even when the main network controller is unavailable.

  • Patent number: 7083540
Abstract: A power transmission for a motor vehicle In realizing these advantages, a power transmission according to this invention includes an input shaft, an output, and a layshaft disposed parallel to the input shaft. A pair of drive elements includes a first element secured to the input shaft, and a second element journalled on the layshaft and driveably connected to the first element. A first coupler is secured to the layshaft for releasably coupling the second element and the layshaft. A planetary gear unit driveably connecting the layshaft and the output, includies a sun gear secured to the layshaft, a ring gear surrounding the sun gear and fixed against rotation, a carrier driveably connected to the output, and a set of planet pinions meshing with the sun gear and ring gear and rotatably supported on the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5588915
Abstract: A seal and guard assembly for a bearing cup assembly in a universal joint includes an annular seal assembly provided about the open end of a bearing cup. The seal assembly includes a metallic support ring and an elastomeric seal. The support ring is generally Z-shaped in cross section, having upper and lower radially extending flange portions which are connected together by an axially extending intermediate portion. The intermediate portion of the support ring is press fit within the inner bearing surface of the bearing cup. The upper flange portion of the support ring extends radially inwardly from the intermediate portion. The lower flange portion of the support ring extends radially outwardly from the intermediate portion adjacent the open end of the S bearing cup. The elastomeric seal is disposed within the intermediate portion of the support ring and is attached thereto. An annular seal guard is removably secured to the seal assembly.

  • Patent number: 5579578
Abstract: An improved method is disclosed for producing a wheel rim for use in a vehicle wheel. The method includes the steps of: (a) providing a flat sheet of material; (b) forming the flat sheet into a hoop having a first predetermined axial length; (c) expanding the hoop to a predetermined inner hoop diameter; (d) flow spinning the hoop to produce a wheel rim preform having a second predetermined axial length greater than the first predetermined axial length, the wheel rim preform including opposed axial ends and a thinned axially extending intermediate portion located between the axial ends; (e) subsequent to step (d), flaring at least one axial end of the wheel rim preform; and (f) subsequent to step (e), subjecting the wheel rim preform to a series of roll forming operations to produce a finished wheel rim having at least one tire bead seat retaining flange, at least one tire bead seat surface, and a generally axially extending well.

  • Patent number: 5480007
Abstract: A disc brake rotor produced by a machining method includes a friction disc having generally parallel inner and outer machined friction faces adapted to be frictionally engaged by a pair of brake pads of the disc brake assembly. Each of the inner and outer machined friction faces includes a spiral machining groove formed therein. When viewed from their respective faces, the spiral machining grooves are essentially identical to one another. The spiral machining groove formed in one of the inner and outer machined friction faces is operative during braking to produce a first force in one radial direction on one of the pair of brake pads. The spiral machining groove formed in the other one of the inner and outer machined friction faces is operative to produce a second force which is generally equal and in an opposite direction to the first on the other one of the pair of brake pads.

  • Patent number: 5055095
Abstract: A limited slip differential includes a case which is rotatably driven by a power source. A cross shaft is mounted within the case for rotation therewith. A pair of pinion gears are rotatably mounted on the ends of the cross shaft. The pinion gears mesh with side gears splined onto respect axle shafts. Thus, when the case is rotated, torque is transmitted through the cross shaft, the pinion gears, and the side gears to the axle shafts. A pair of Belleville springs are mounted to the cross shaft adjacent to the pinion gears. A hollow cylindrical spacer is disposed about the cross shaft between the two Belleville springs. The Belleville springs react against the ends of the spacer to urge the pinion gears apart from one another into frictional engagement with respective thrust washers disposed between the pinion gears and the case. As a result, the rotation of the pinion gears is restricted, thus limiting the free wheeling action of the differential.
