    Abstract: A logging-while-drilling density sensor includes a gamma ray source and at least two NaI detectors spaced apart from the source for determining measurements indicative of the formation density. A magnetometer on the drill collar measures the relative azimuth of the NaI detectors. Measurements made by the detectors are partitioned into bins defined by azimuth. A compensated bulk density is determined for selected ones of said azimuthal sectors that meet a threshold test related to a minimum difference of measurements or a minimum correction. The method of the invention may also be used with neutron porosity logging devices.

    Abstract: It has been discovered that crosslinked polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) resins are useful defoamers and antifoamers for hydrocarbon-containing liquids, such as delayed coker feedstocks and feedstocks to preflash and atmospheric towers. These PDMS resins are crosslinked with either alkyl polysilicate or siloxane. The crosslinked PDMS resins may be used alone or together with linear PDMS, and are typically blended with a carrier such as kerosene for easier handling. Importantly, the use of crosslinked branched PDMS resins permit less total amount of polysiloxanes to be used, which reduces the silicon carryover in coker products and reduces poisoning of downstream catalysts.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for estimating a property of a fluid downhole by exposing the fluid to modulated light downhole and sensing changes in intensity of infrared radiation from the downhole fluid to estimate the property of the downhole fluid. The present invention senses changes in intensity of light by converting the changes to transient changes in temperature of a detector, such as a pyroelectric detector. The present invention performs spectroscopic analysis of fluids by optically filtering the light allowed to impinge on a pyroelectric detector, converting the changes in temperature of the pyroelectric detector to a signal and converting the signal to estimate the property of the downhole fluid. The light source is modulated by mechanically chopping the beam or by electrically pulsing the light source or by steering the beam between different path lengths of sample or between a reference cell (filled with a reference fluid or empty) and a sample-filled cell.

    Abstract: A single method and apparatus for producing many of the most common types of hologram from digital data is disclosed. The data are generated entirely by a computer as a 3-D (animated) model or from multiple 2-D camera images taken of a real 3-D (moving) object or scene from a plurality of different camera positions. The data are digitally processed and displayed on a small high resolution spatial light modulator (SLM). A compact low energy pulsed laser, is used to record composite holograms. The present invention permits the creation of restricted or full parallax master transmission or reflection type composite holograms, known as H1 holograms, that can be copied using traditional methods. Alternatively the same invention and apparatus permits the direct writing of hologram without the need to pass through the intermediate stage of the H1 transmission hologram.

Exemplary adaptive inflow control devices include devices configured to control flow in response to changes in gas/oil ratio, water/oil ratio, fluid density and/or the operating temperature of the inflow control device. In other aspects of the present invention, inflow control devices are utilized to control the flow of commingled fluids drained via two or more wellbores.
