  • Patent number: 7333252
Abstract: A method of writing a single or double parallax composite 1-step hologram is disclosed. Digital data is acquired from a real or virtual object and is described by a luminous intensity tensor. A single mathematical transformation is performed to convert the luminous intensity tensor into a mask tensor. The single mathematical transformation transforms the digital data whilst integrally correcting the digital data for the finite distortion of an optical objective. Corrected data, described by the mask tensor, is written on to a spatial light modulator. A laser beam is directed on to the spatial light modulator so that at least a portion of the laser beam is spatially modulated to form a spatially modulated laser beam. The spatially modulated laser beam is then passed through an optical objective having a finite distortion and in combination with a reference recording beam forms a composite hologram.

  • Patent number: 7333891
Abstract: Measurements are made with a multicomponent logging tool in an earth formation. The measurements are inverted without using a selected cross-component measurement. The model is then used to predict the value of the selected cross-component. A misalignment angle of the tool is estimated from the predicted and actual values of the selected cross-component.

  • Patent number: 7328745
Abstract: A clayish subterranean formation, such as may be encountered in rock surrounding a well bore during hydrocarbon recovery operations may be stabilized with relatively high molecular weight polyamine salts of an imide of polymaleic anhydride. The salts may be unneutralized or partially neutralized. The invention is particularly relevant to hydraulic fracturing fluids used in enhanced oil recovery. The compositions herein are made in the presence of a reactive solvent, such as a polyalkylene glycol, e.g. polyethylene glycol. The compositions of this invention are more environmentally friendly than some current technology.

  • Patent number: 7324248
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing holograms may use a computer generated 3-D model or data generated using multiple 2-D camera images taken of a real 3-D object or scene. The data is digitally processed and displayed on a high resolution spatial light modulator (SLM). A low energy pulsed laser records composite holograms on a holographic emulsion using a special optical design. Restricted or full parallax master transmission or reflection type composite holograms, known as H1 holograms, may be created that can be copied using traditional methods to produce full or single color rainbow white-light transmission holograms, achromatic white-light transmission holograms or single or full-color white-light reflection holograms.

  • Patent number: 7320329
Abstract: Apparatus for remotely operated fluid pumping in work spaces, particularly suitable for the cleaning of enclosed space tanks such as those on marine vessels. The apparatus comprises one or more arm assemblies, each made up of two or more arm sections each, with the arm assembly mounted within of the tank. Hydraulic rotary actuators disposed between the arm sections provide up to 360 degree rotation of one arm section with respect to the next. A nozzle is mounted on a pair of hydraulic rotary actuators near the end of the arm assembly distal from the mount, with a hose supplying fluid from a supply pump to the nozzle. Fluids and solids from the cleaning operation can be pumped from the area being cleaned via a discharge pump to a holding vessel, such as a disposal barge. A video camera is mounted on the arm assembly, preferably at the nozzle, to permit an operator to remotely view the cleaning process and area.

  • Patent number: 7313052
Abstract: A system and methods of transmitting information between a first location and a second location comprise transmitting a data signal and a known signal from one of the first location and the second location over a signal channel having a first noise component. A second noise component is measured in a noise channel adjacent the signal channel. The data signal, the known signal, and the first noise component are received at the other location. The first noise component is estimated based on the second noise component. The estimated noise component is combined with the received data signal and the received known signal to generate noise-cancelled received data and received known signals. The noise-cancelled received known signal is processed to obtain an estimate of the channel transfer function. The estimated channel transfer function is combined with the noise-cancelled received data signal to reconstruct the transmitted data signal.

  • Patent number: 7306056
Abstract: A bottomhole assembly (BHA) for single trip sidetracking operations has a mill for forming an open hole section in a cased wellbore and a steering unit for controlling drill bit orientation. During use, the drilling system is assembled at the surface and tripped into the wellbore. The mill is positioned adjacent a kick-off point and operated to form an open hole section. Thereafter, the drill bit is positioned adjacent the open hole section. An exemplary steering unit includes one or more force application members that, when energized, displace the drill bit such that the bit is pointed in a specified direction into the open hole section. The steering unit also includes one or more force application members that facilitate directional drilling through the open hole section. Other suitable steering units can employ devices that alter the BHA centerline geometry.

  • Patent number: 7301337
Abstract: An apparatus and method of obtaining information about a property of interest relating to an earth formation resulting in reduced ringing effects is discussed. A Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) logging tool is conveyed into a borehole in the earth formation. A first pulse sequence is applied having a first associated measurement frequency, and first NMR signals are measured. The first NMR signals include non-formation signals resulting from an excitation pulse and a refocusing pulse in the first pulse echo sequence. A second and third pulse sequence, at different frequencies from each other and from the first frequency, is applied, and corresponding second and third NMR signals are measured. A phase of the non-formation signals resulting from the first pulse echo sequence and a phase of the non-formation signals resulting from the second and third pulse echo sequences are substantially evenly distributed around a unit circle.

  • Patent number: 7299678
Abstract: A measurement head particularly for borehole use can measure multiple parameters with no electronics in the head and only a single conductor cable. Double-ended tuning forks (26, 28 and 38, 40) in the head are arranged to respond to different parameters such as temperature and pressure by adjusting their resonant frequencies. A drive signal on the conductor (50) is applied to transducers (30, 32, 42, 44) on all the tuning forks and those whose instantaneous resonant frequency is close will resonate. The signal is removed and the transducers return a decaying signal at the resonant frequency along the conductor. Other drive frequencies are tried, to locate the other sensors whose frequency ranges are separate.

  • Patent number: 7301852
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for using an acoustic logging tool conveyed in a borehole in an earth formation for determining a characteristic of the formation. The method comprises using a first acoustic source for generating an acoustic signal in the earth formation at a first frequency. A second acoustic source spaced apart from the first source is used for generating an acoustic signal in the earth formation at a second frequency different from the first frequency. An acoustic receiver is used for receiving a third acoustic signal indicative of said characteristic. The third acoustic signal has a frequency substantially equal to a difference between the first frequency and the second frequency. The third acoustic signal is produced by a nonlinear interaction between the first signal and the second signal in a portion of said earth formation.
