  • Patent number: 6282373
Abstract: The system and method provide bin identification numbers for storage of developed film rolls in a system that provides reliable and effective notification to customers that film rolls they deposited with a vendor for processing are available for retrieval. The method determines whether the generated number is contained in a list of reserved bin numbers. If it is, another number is generated from the received data. This process continues until a generated number is generated that is not on the list of reserved bin numbers. That number is then added to the list and also stored in a data record corresponding to the received data. Upon retrieval of the developed film from the bin having the assigned bin number, the bin number is removed from the reserved list.

  • Patent number: 6277123
Abstract: An apparatus for positioning a prosthesis in a bone includes a body, first and second clamps, a depth gauge and a guide. The first clamp is coupled to the body. The depth gage is coupled to the body and is movable relative thereto generally perpendicular to the shaft of the bone. The second clamp can be selectively engaged with and disengaged from the depth gage. The second clamp is movable with the depth gage and is also moveable in a direction generally parallel to the axis of the bone The guide is used to determine the proper rotational orientation of the apparatus. The first clamp is then secured to the bone. The second clamp is secured to a trial prosthesis and is engaged with the depth gage as the trial is inserted into the bone. When the proper insertion depth is reached, the second clamp is secured to the depth gage. The joint is then reduced and the range of motion checked. The depth and rotational orientation may be adjusted as needed.

  • Patent number: 6278730
Abstract: Method and apparatus for non-invasive testing of digital communications systems. Amplitude measurements are made for multiple frequencies of a multi-frequency communication system, converted to the time domain. An adaptive filter output is matched to the time domain representation to characterize the channel. Impedance mismatches may be precisely located using this technique. An error signal representing a difference between a signal transmitted through the channel and a received signal is estimated and analyzed. The error signal is separated into components corresponding to contributions by wide band noise, residual phase modulation, and residual amplitude modulation. Identification and removal of narrow-band interferers may occur prior to this separation. Bit error rate and system margin computations employ a Monte Carlo simulation of the various error sources. This provides a well refined estimate of bit error rate and system margin.
