  • Patent number: 4569076
Abstract: A motion picture loudspeaker system is described in which the loudspeaker elements are integral with an acoustical boundary wall such that the characteristics of the vented box woofers are optimized. In order to overcome high reflection problems as sound from the tweeters is reflected by the motion picture screen and the acoustical boundary wall, frequency dependent acoustical absorptive material is attached to the wall to inhibit high frequency reflections with minimal effect on the bass optimization. The system includes the use of a steep slope crossover netowrk having a crossover frequency such that there is a first order match of the woofer and tweeter dispersion at the crossover.

  • Patent number: 4558201
Abstract: A plasma arc cutting torch housing defines a chamber which has an outlet at the end of the housing. The torch also includes an electrode in the chamber near the outlet and means in the chamber for separating the gas flowing towards the outlet of the housing into a primary gas flow adjacent to the electrode for generating a plasma and a secondary gas flow away from the electrode for cooling the torch and the workpiece. The electrode has a centrally disposed bore therethrough for conveying gas. Inserts in the bore at opposite ends of the electrode burn away so as to expose the centrally disposed bore and thereby automatically quench operation of the plasma arc so as to prevent damage to the torch. In the preferred embodiment, the electrode has a centrally disposed transverse bore and a pair of transverse bores intermediate the central bore and the electrode ends. In an alternate embodiment, the pair of transverse bores are eliminated and gas is conducted by means of an annular gas distributor.

  • Patent number: 4532556
Abstract: The time-base corrector of this invention corrects the time-base of audio signals reproduced from video tapes without correcting the time-base of video signals which are associated with the audio signals. Reference signals such as the horizontal synchronizing pulses which accompany video information are used for correcting the time-base of audio signals if such reference signals have been subjected to substantially the same time compression or expansion as the audio signals. In the preferred embodiment, the reproduced audio signals are sampled and written into a sampled data delay and read out of it by means of a control circuit. The control circuit receives as input the undistorted reference signal and the reproduced reference signal which has undergone time compression or expansion. The control circuit derives a write clock signal with a frequency equal to k times the frequency of the distorted reference signal.
