  • Patent number: 8202403
Abstract: A distillation tower for use in a petrochemical or petroleum operation effects liquid and vapor separation by using centrifugal force applied to the feed introduced into a ring from a tangential inlet. The feed is separated into a liquid component that flows into the bottoms section of the tower and a vapor component that flows upwardly through the core of the ring to a wash zone in the tower. De-entrainment devices are provided in the core so that the vapor swirling upwardly impacts the devices and any remaining entrained liquid is separated from the vapor. As a result, overflash with decreased resid can be collected from the wash zone and used as feed suitable for a fluid catalytic cracking operation, for example.

  • Patent number: 8147676
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved delayed coking process. A coker feed, such as a vacuum resid, is treated with (i) a metal-containing agent and (ii) an oxidizing agent. The feed is treated with the oxidizing agent at an oxidizing temperature. The oxidized feed is then pre-heated to coking temperatures and conducted to a coking vessel for a coking time to allow volatiles to evolve and to produce a substantially free-flowing coke. A metals-containing composition is added to the feed at at least one of the following points in the process: prior to the heating of the feed to coking temperatures, during such heating, and/or after such heating.

  • Patent number: 6180575
Abstract: Lubricating oils useful as gear oils, circulating oils, compressor oils and in other applications characterized by and excellent balance of anti-wear and anti-rust characteristics are based on high quality base stocks including a major portion of a hydrocarbon base fluid such as a PAO with a secondary base stock component which is preferably a long chain alkylated aromatic, such as an alkylnaphthalene. A synergistic combination of additives comprising an adduct of a substituted triazole such as benzotriazole or a substituted benzotriazole, e.g. tolyltriazole (TTZ) with an amine phosphate and a trihydrocarbyl phosphate such as cresyl diphenylphosphate (CDP), confers the desired balance of anti-wear and anti-rust properties. In addition, the present oils typically include an anti-oxidant component and a rust inhibitor together with other optional additive components.

  • Patent number: 5494566
Abstract: A process for solvent dewaxing petroleum feedstock to separate crystallized wax from lubricant oil by filtration of a wax/oil/solvent mixture. The feedstock is sequentially cooled and mixed with cold polar solvent to form a wax crystal phase and oil-solvent phase, and-the oil-solvent filtrate stream is contacted with solvent permeable selective membrane at low temperature to recover an internal circulating permeate solvent stream and an oil-rich retentate stream containing dewaxed oil product and residual solvent. Improved operation is achieved by splitting the internal circulating solvent stream into a multiple cold solvent recycle streams and injecting a plurality of the cold solvent recycle streams into the waxy petroleum feedstock during sequential cooling and mixing. By initially injecting a cold recycle solvent stream in to the waxy petroleum feedstock at a small temperature differential near the wax crystallization temperature, shock cooling and excess small wax crystal formation is avoided.

  • Patent number: 5465845
Abstract: The invention involves a system for bag pack support, easy dispensing, loading and removal of grocery bags involving a pack of bags and a rack suitable for the dispensing of the bags. The pack includes a plurality of undershirt type bags having integrally extended double-loop handles in the bag mouth. Each bag mouth is distinguished by being free of any suspension tabs. Thus, in bag pack form there is no "header". Suspension orifices are located in the handles of the bags. The pack of bags is employed with a rack which includes a pair of spaced parallel cantilevered rods having free ends. The bag pack is threaded onto the support rods by means of the support orifices. The rack includes a restraining means adapted to engage at least some of the bags of the pack so as to at least inhibit any significant forward movement of the pack as individual bags are loaded and removed from the rack. Means are included with the bag pack to secure the plurality of bags in a registered condition.

  • Patent number: 5448808
Abstract: A plastic zipper slider having hinged wings is provided with an improved latch tongue which is deflected downward to snap in place. Additional flexible latch web structure cooperates with the latch tongue to provide additional forces which are active in assuring that the wings are fully latched and to also provide additional resistance to unlatching the wings.

  • Patent number: 5442837
Abstract: A leakproof plastic zipper with integrated end stops for a zipper slider particularly suited for thermoplastic bags. An increased flange height above the interlocking elements of the zipper and an increased plow depth on the separator of the slider extending down between the flanges provide a means of stopping the travel of the slider past the ends of the zipper. The separator structure depending from the slider has a configuration in vertical cross-section corresponding to an inverted T, the horizontal portion of the T having the ends thereof adapted to be received in window structure in the flanges above the interlocking elements and adjacent one of the integrated end stops.

  • Patent number: 5431760
Abstract: In a continuous bag-making process, the film and zipper track moves intermittently through a bag machine in a continuous stream, so there is no end to the zipper track on which the slider can be inserted. In the present invention, in the intermittent motion-part of the bag machine, the zipper is cut apart at the location that is to be the edge of the bag, the ends formed by the cutter moved laterally relative to each other exposing the ends and the slider is inserted over one of the exposed ends.

  • Patent number: 5220089
Abstract: Olefins are converted to lower alkene hydrocarbon products, e.g., propene, butenes, and isoalkenes with zeolite MCM-22 catalyst. This catalytic conversion is particularly useful in the selective separation of linear olefins in mixed hydrocarbon streams, employing MCM-22 catalyst to convert these straight-chain unsaturated components to lighter products, particularly, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 olefins. One potential application of this selective separation is in the removal of linear olefins from FCC gasoline.
