  • Patent number: 5076596
Abstract: A top jaw system for securing a top jaw in position above a chuck on a milling machine, lathe or the like is provided. A protrusion extends upward from the chuck and is preferably attached to the chuck by rigid attachment to a jaw nut which is positioned in a common master jaw on the chuck. The protrusion has a flat face which extends upward and over the jaw nut to form an acute angle with the jaw nut. A top jaw having a slot sized to receive the protrusion is placed over the protrusion. The top jaw has a pin aperture extending through the top jaw through the slot at a right angle to the protrusion when the top jaw is placed on the protrusion. When the top jaw is placed on the protrusion, an elongated pin having a flat surface extending along its elongated axis is placed in the pin aperture. The flat face of the protrusion is pushed into contact with the flat surface of the pin. This is preferably done a set screw extending through the top jaw and contacting the protrusion opposite the flat face.

  • Patent number: 5070892
Abstract: An artificial nail tip having cosmetic and/or prosthetic applications, which includes a recessed rear portion with a predisposed edge pattern which facilitates more efficient and effective attachment to both normal and problem nails. A stair-step, sawtooth or other useful pattern is cut into the edges of the predisposed edge for use as an accurate guide in length for quick and symmetrical trimming of excess material from the rear portion of the artificial nail during fitting and attachment. The edge pattern also increases the area with which a suitable adhesive comes into contact and thereby increases the strength of the bond to a natural nail.

  • Patent number: 5045202
Abstract: Apparatus and system for increasing the efficiency of absorption of oxygen by biodegradable waste and particle break-up thereof, by introducing waste and gas, which may be air, into a collector under a highly agitated state, and agitating the air and waste under pressure in the collector by the impeller of a centrifugal pump as back pressure is provided in the collector. The collector is mismatched relative to the impeller to increase the retention and mixing time of the air and waste in the collector. The collector within the impeller forms a pump designed to operate close to its shut-off condition for increased retention time in the collector.

  • Patent number: 5039102
Abstract: A card reader for a blackjack table comprised of a card reading device and a housing therefor, said housing attachable to the blackjack table. The card reading device has associated therewith a light source, a power source for energizing said light source, and a platform coplanar with said blackjack table defining an aperture for reading a portion of a face-down playing card. Said aperture is covered partially by a cover to minimize the opportunity of black jack players other than the dealer to view the portion of the card being inspected. A reflective surface is disposed generally below said aperture to reflect the portion of the face-down card being read through the non-covered portion of the aperture to reveal to the dealer any indicia on the portion of the face down card being read. There is also disclosed herein a method for increasing the speed of play in an organized game of blackjack.

  • Patent number: 5038868
Abstract: A cultivation implement which is comprised generally of forward and rear thatching reels which rotate in opposite directions relative to each other under positive drive power from a tow vehicle, such as a tractor. Each reel unit is rotatably disposed in its own carriage or frame, which carriages are hingedly connected to each other and to said tow vehicle. Each carriage rides, when the implement is not in use, on free spinning road wheels. For use, each carriage may be selectively lowered from the non-use, raised, position to a lowered, in-use, position, by actuation of hydraulic means. To assure even and smooth operation of the implement while the reel units are engaging the ground, unique ground engaging members, or skids, are connected to each carriage and positioned relative to each said reel unit so as to be interengaged by the vertical blade members.

  • Patent number: 5037244
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a conveyor system wherein an article being transported on the conveyor system has its orientation changed from a vertical position at its point of entry to a horizontal position at its point of discharge. The orientation occurs through the use of air power jets which are appropriately located to assist in the re-orientation of the article being transported. The re-orientation occurs without any reduction in conveyor speed and in fact, results in a thirty-three to seventy-five percent increase in overall capacity. Additionally, the system is adjustable in that it can receive different sizes cans.

  • Patent number: 5033310
Abstract: A test apparatus for measuring the rate (volume as a function of time) of surface water runoff infiltration inflow into a manhole that includes a portable liquid impervious barrier that can retain a predetermined volume of water and sized to extend and encompass a manhole cover and the manhole supporting structure, the barrier including a waterproof gasket along its base, and a liquid level measuring device positioned inside the barrier that can determine first and second liquid levels within the barrier as a function of time. When the liquid impervious barrier is filled with water, the device is actuated when a particular water level is reached. After liquid has infiltrated into the manhole structure, the level will drop in the barrier and when a predetermined low level is reached, the measuring device will compute the time lapsed and the volume that has left the barrier.
