    Abstract: In order to avoid external bulging (5) to accommodate accessory mechanisms (27) and gearboxes (30) to drive these mechanisms (27) in accordance with the present invention splitter fairings (26) are located within a bypass duct (23) of an engine (20). The bypass duct (23) is defined between a casing (21) and compressor/turbine propulsion core (22). The fairings (26) are of sufficient dimensions to accommodate the accessory mechanisms (27) whilst the bypass duct (23) is appropriately shaped axi-symmetrically to eliminate and balance any blocking effect of these fairings (26) within the duct (23) upon air flow (24). Further fairings (26?) may be provided to accommodate oil tank reservoirs (34) as well as filter/heat exchanger mechanisms (35) for the engine (20). In such circumstances, a notional elongate cylindrical profile for the engine (20) is maintained such that a reduced cross section is require for that engine (20) and so allowing a smaller airframe with better sonic boom signature.

    Abstract: The present invention is drawn to an electrically “closed” method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving data signals over a high voltage power line. Inductive coupling is employed for coupling and decoupling the data signal directly on to and off of a single power line wire. An exemplary device includes a high frequency inductive coupling toroid for data signals, a second (50-60 Hz) inductive coupling toroid for providing power, signal conditioning electronics for the receive and transmit signal, a fiber optics interface for electrical isolation purposes, and a weather-proof enclosure. In a preferred embodiment, the toroids are hinged for ease of installation on a power line. A pair of such couplings on either side of a fiber-optic isolator can be used to bridge transformers.

    Abstract: Apparatus for maintaining the temperature of a component of a gas turbine engine below a predetermined maximum working temperature comprises a reservoir for a cooling fluid having a boiling point below the working temperature and in which the component is immersed or with which it is in contact. At least two heat exchangers are associated with the reservoir and operable to effect condensation of vaporized cooling fluid and return of same to the reservoir. Preferably the apparatus is a closed system incorporating three heat exchangers respectively adapted to effect heat exchange with engine fuel, compressed air derived from a fan or low pressure compressor of the engine and ambient air. Means may advantageously be provided to ensure return of condensed cooling fluid to the reservoir when the attitude of the reservoir is altered as a result of aircraft maneuvers.
