  • Patent number: 4515069
Abstract: A thermally powered change-over diffuser is disclosed which includes a housing having an outlet and movable blade assembly mounted with respect to the outlet for displacement between a first position producing a Coanda flow across a surface, such as a ceiling, and a second position producing a detached stream in a generally normally extending direction with respect to the surface. The diffuser is preferably thermally powered and includes a rapid change-over assembly enabling substantially immediate shifting between the two positions so as to provide a cooling mode of discharge and heating mode of discharge. Additionally, means for adjusting the volume of air discharged is provided.

  • Patent number: 4492416
Abstract: The wheel mounting of the present invention is designed particularly for use in cable car structures at intersecting street corners, that is, where the cable is carried around a curve. The structure comprises, briefly, a pair of normally vertically spaced horizontally extending supporting pleats and a vertical shaft fixed to the plates and which journals a cable supporting wheel, the later being thus normally mounted to rotate in a horizontal plane. The structure is intended for mounting in below ground surface at the elevation of and to support the car driving cable. Of particular importance is the provision in mounting of a bearing in the wheel hub surrounding the shaft and which has an outer race at the hub wall of the wheel and an inner race at the shaft, the two races being rigidly clamped to the hub and shaft so as to positively confine the forces imposed on the bearing to those forces which the bearing is designed to withstand without undue heating, wear or deterioration.

  • Patent number: 4491270
Abstract: An improved thermally actuated diffuser is disclosed. The diffuser comprises four thermal sensor actuators. A first thermal sensor actuator is responsive to changes in the room air temperature when cool air is supplied through the duct into the room. A second thermal sensor actuator is responsive to the duct air and is adapted to engage the first thermal sensor actuator when cool air is supplied through the duct and to disengage the first thermal sensor actuator when warm air is supplied through the duct. A third thermal sensor actuator is responsive to changes in the room when warm air is supplied through the duct. A fourth thermal sensor actuator is responsive to changes in the duct air temperature and brings the third thermal sensor actuator into engagement when warm air is supplied through the duct and to disengage the third thermal sensor actuator when cool air is supplied through the duct.

  • Patent number: 4483677
Abstract: A flexible clasp for removable mounting of a partial dental prosthesis to an abutment tooth is disclosed. The clasp includes a retention arm (42) formed to extend around at least a portion of the side of an abutment tooth (27) to retain the prosthesis in an edentulous space (26). In the improved clasp (41), the retention arm (42) is coupled to the prosthesis at a location in the edentulous space, preferably about one tooth width from abutment tooth (27) so as to cantilever support the retention arm (42) for resilient lateral displacement with respect to the abutment tooth. Preferably, a resiliently displaceable tubular member (51) is mounted to the retention arm (42) which is held to the prosthesis by a clip (43) surrounding the tubular member (51) and arm (42).

  • Patent number: 4471207
Abstract: The user of electric arc welding equipment is provided with audible feedback signals which provide useful information relating to the output current and voltage of the welder. An audio tone is generated and is frequency modulated by a signal which corresponds to welder output voltage. The tone is amplitude modulated by a signal corresponding to output current thus providing the user with a synthesized feedback signal having a voltage-proportional pitch and current-proportional volume. Additional modulation means are disclosed for introducing a current-proportional warble component to said tone.

  • Patent number: 4470355
Abstract: A cable tensioning apparatus and method for automatically maintaining and adjusting the tension forces in an endless cable for a ski lift, aerial tramway, etc. is disclosed. The apparatus includes a carriage on which the cable is carried, a pneumatic carriage displacement apparatus in the form of a piston and cylinder, a source of gas under pressure, and a regulator and relief valve connected to establish and maintain a pressure within the cylinder which falls between predetermined minimum and maximum pressures. As the aerial tramway is subject to passenger or cargo loading and ambient conditions which change the tension forces, the pressure in the pneumatic cylinder will vary within the preselected range, and upon a change in the tension force beyond the range, gas is automatically exhausted from or interjected into the pneumatic cylinder to maintain tension forces within the preselected range.
