Patent number: 8352935Abstract: A customized distribution, e.g. of Linux software, is built using only packages that satisfy a customer's individual requirements. The packages are verified, at build time, to be interoperable at run-time. Also, the distribution is verified to ensure all package dependencies are included. In cases where no package already exists that meets a user requirements, a new package can be created for this purpose. The packages in the distribution customized for the user can be tracked, so that as updates to the packages are released, the customer can be notified about those updates (without being notified about packages not in the customer's customized distribution). Finally, once the distribution has been built for the user, it can then be offered as a general-purpose distribution for future customers.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2005Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Novell, Inc.Inventors: Scott A. Isaacson, Eric W. B. Anderson, Robert Wipfel

Patent number: 8343081Abstract: Methods to control the delivery of CPR to a patient through a mechanical CPR device are described. The method generally allows for a gradual increase in the frequency of CPR cycles. The gradual increase can be regulated by protocols programmed within the CPR device such as intermittently starting and stopping the delivery of CPR, accelerating the delivery of CPR, stepping up the CPR frequency, increasing the force of CPR, and adjusting the ratio of compression and decompression in a CPR cycle. Combinations of each of these forms may also be used to control the delivery of CPR. This manner of gradually accelerating artificial blood flow during the first minutes of mechanical CPR delivery can serve to lessen the potential for ischemia/reperfusion injury in the patient who receives mechanical CPR treatment.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2007Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Physio-Control, Inc.Inventor: Rob Walker

Patent number: 8347387Abstract: A computer includes a processor. When an instruction to be executed by the processor involves writing to memory, the write can be redirected to a temporary area of memory. The correct amount of data can then be copied from the temporary area to the original target memory address. The advantages of the invention can be achieved, among other possibilities, via re-compiling the program or modifying instructions before execution.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2011Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Inventor: Ariel S. Patent number: 8344899Abstract: Techniques are provided for alerting a person to check a medical device while conserving battery power. The medical device initiates a status alert if a readiness condition of the medical device is no longer being met. The status alert includes notification periods during which an audible sound is emitted alternating with off periods during which substantially no audible sound is emitted. The audible sounds may include certain tones or at least one spoken word. At least one of the duration of successive notification periods or the duration of successive off periods may be varied. In this manner, the medical device may provide audible sound at different times during the day in an attempt to get the attention of a person. In addition, the medical device may sense an activity to determine when to provide the audible sound.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2010Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Physio-Control, Inc.Inventors: Joseph L. Patent number: 8327131Abstract: A target machine can be verified prior to being granted access to a resource on a network by interrogating and analyzing digests of various elements of the target machine. The digests can be collected into an integrity report and provided to a Trust Scoring Service. The Trust Scoring Service receives the integrity report and compares the digests with signatures stored in a signature database. A trust score certificate can then be issued to the target machine. The Trust Scoring Service can include a Score Evaluation Server which can interact with a Kerberos Authentication Server and a Ticket Granting Server to embed a trust score within a Kerberos Ticket to enforce a richer set of access policies. The integrity of a web server can be verified and a Trust Score Certificate Logo can be displayed on a corresponding home page of a merchant. By clicking on the Trust Score Certificate Logo, a user can verify the integrity of the merchant's web servers prior to completing a transaction with the merchant.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2007Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: Harris CorporationInventors: Thomas Parasu Hardjono, David Maurits Bleckmann, William Wyatt Starnes, Bradley Douglas Andersen

Patent number: 8318542Abstract: A contact spring applicator is provided which includes an applicator substrate, a removable encapsulating layer and a plurality of contact springs embedded in the removable encapsulating layer. The contact springs are positioned such that a bond pad on each contact spring is adjacent to an upper surface of the removable encapsulating layer. The contact spring applicator may also include an applicator substrate, a release layer, a plurality of unreleased contact springs on the release layer and a bond pad at an anchor end of each contact spring. The contact spring applicators apply contact springs to an integrated circuit chip, die or package or to a probe card by aligning the bond pads with bond pad landings on the receiving device. The bond pads are adhered to the bond pad landings. The encapsulating or release layer is then removed to separate the contact springs from the contact spring applicator substrate.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2011Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Palo Alto Research Center IncorporatedInventors: Eugene M.
