  • Patent number: 4979278
Abstract: The invention is directed to a device for axially and externally mounting an expandable sleeve onto, and dismounting the sleeve from, a cylinder. The subject device comprises an external fluid-transmission means for expanding the diameter of the expandable sleeve by introducing a fluid capable of expanding the sleeve between the inner surface of the sleeve and the outer surface of the cylinder. The requisite sleeve expansion is accomplished without transmitting fluid from within the cylinder during the mounting and dismounting operations. The sleeve is contractable by the removal of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 4963408
Abstract: This invention relates to a unitary composite laminate structure, particularly as it relates to the manufacture of macro-scale unitary composite laminate structures. The laminate structure of this invention comprises a unitary composite having an inner core layer and an outer encapsulating layer co-adhered one to the other by a bonding material. The respective inner core and encapsulating layers are chemically fused together to produce the unitary structure. A high shear strength, load-bearing matrix is disposed between the respective inner core layer and the outer encapsulating layer. The matrix is oriented substantially entirely in the load bearing direction so that the unitary composite structure is capable of resisting delamination under conditions requiring high tensile and high shear strength.

  • Patent number: 4952090
Abstract: A dispenser for cologne or the like. The dispenser includes an elongate case having a body and a cap which includes a clip for carrying the dispenser in a shirt pocket. The case includes a reservoir for holding cologne or the like and a roller-ball applicator. A plug having a bore therethrough which is at an angle relative to the longitudinal case axis permits flow of cologne from the vial to the roller-ball applicator when the dispenser is tipped. When the dispenser is placed in a horizontal position, cologne cannot flow through the plug bore due to the angle of the bore, thus preventing cologne in the vial from reaching the applicator.

  • Patent number: 4951767
Abstract: A vehicle suspension lock system for a tree feller-buncher comprising a pair of pivot arms extending transversely from a vehicle frame. Track pods are mounted on the outer end of each pivot arm and a hydraulic cylinder is extensibly disposed between the frame and the pivot arm. A pilot-operated check valve in each cylinder prevents upward movement of the rod in its associated cylinder when the check valve is closed. The pilot port of each check valve is pressurized responsive to hydraulic fluid pressure used to drive the vehicle track pods thereby permitting fluid flow into and between the cylinders when the vehicle is moving and checking the flow from each cylinder when the vehicle is stationary to effect locking of the pivot arms for logging operations.

  • Patent number: 4949159
Abstract: A carrier for film-mounted integrated circuits comprises a body member having a rectangular cavity for receiving a segment of a flexible film strip and a retainer member shaped and sized to fit conformably within the cavity, each integrally molded of a resilient polymeric material. A series of undercut ledges are spaced along the interior periphery of the cavity and complementary lips are spaced along the exterior periphery of the retainer member and protruding from the outer edge faces thereof in juxtaposition with the undercut ledges for interengaging therewith. The lips and ledges interlock the retainer member within the body member in nested relationship with a margin of said rectangular segment sandwiched between the flat bottom wall and flat bottom face of the body and retainer members.

  • Patent number: 4933404
Abstract: This invention is directed to a microemulsion system comprising a first phase including a low-polarity fluid material which is a gas at standard temperature and pressure, and which has a cloud-point density. It also includes a second phase including a polar fluid, typically water, a monomer, preferably a monomer soluble in the polar fluid, and a microemulsion promoter for facilitating the formation of micelles including the monomer in the system. In the subject process, micelles including the monomer are formed in the first phase. A polymerization initiator is introduced into the micelles in the microemulsion system. The monomer is then polymerized in the micelles, preferably in the core of the micelle, to produce a polymeric material having a relatively high molecular weight.

  • Patent number: 4928920
Abstract: A valve body includes a cylindrical seat having a substantially flat working face. A cylindrical valve member having a working surface thereon is slidable toward and away from the seat face to vary flow from the outer peripheries of the seat and valve member into an orifice extending into the seat and in communication with the seat face. The valve member is mounted on a stem which is in threaded engagement with the radially inner surface of an annular member. The outer surface of the annular member is in threaded engagement with the valve body. The inner threads have 12 threads per inch and the outer threads have 11 threads per inch thereby moving the valve stem 0.0075 inches per 360.degree. revolution of the annular member.

  • Patent number: 4924733
Abstract: A Multiple Bit Screwdriver has a handle with a plurality of bits in a circular array of longitudinal bores within a handle magazine. A rotatable end cap on the handle is provided with a slot for receiving the bit, and the desired bit is selected by rotating the end cap to align the slot with a particular bore. The selected bit is withdrawn from the magazine by inserting a second bit into the bore through the slot in the end cap, thereby forcing the selected bit out of the bore through the opposite end. The bit is retained in working position on the screwdriver shaft by magnetic means. Double-ended bits may be utilized.

  • Patent number: 4909735
Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating an orthodontic archform wherein the bracket archwire slots are level to one another. The method includes setting up separated model teeth in a straight line on a setup fixture to locate the brackets in a level position on the model teeth, transferring the model teeth and brackets to an alignment fixture, and positioning them in a curved arrangement defining an archform. An archwire can then be formed in the bracket slots either manually or by inserting and clamping the archwire in the slots and heat treating the archwire in an oven.

  • Patent number: 4908576
Abstract: A system is described for connecting a printed circuit board (PCB) under test to a digital analysis unit to permit verification of the functional behavior of the PCB. A bed-of-nails (BON) fixture is employed, allowing access to internal circuit nodes of the PCB. Controlled-impedance wiring, terminated in its characteristic impedance at the test electronics, allows high speed signals to be communicated without degradation from the unit under test (UUT). Excessive dynamic loading of the UUT circuit nodes is avoided by employing isolation resistance at each BON probe. The potentially large number of UUT signals to be monitored is multiplexed down to a smaller number of lines more readily accommodated by the digital analysis unit. The selected signals from the UUT are processed in a wide-band asynchronous manner by the test electronics in such a way that uniform delay of all signals through the multiplexer is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4907934
Abstract: A variable rate boat loader includes a frame having transverse front, rear-powered and rear-pivot rollers. Two pulleys are mounted on the boat gunwales between the boat's bow and center of gravity. Two winch lines are connected at one end to the powered roller in laterally spaced position. Each line extends forward atop the vehicle, upward around the front roller, and back over the frame and lengthwise of the boat to the pulleys. The lines extend through the pulleys, forward to the frame, over the pivot roller to be supported thereby, and down to the stern of the boat. The lines are supportingly connected to the stern of the boat. This arrangement provides a doubled mechanical advantage in lifting the boat from the ground up to the level of the frame. From this level, as the effective load being lifted decreases, the mechanical advantage decreases while the lifting speed increases. The winch lines automatically bind the boat to the front roller and pivot roller when the boat is fully loaded.
