  • Patent number: 6052851
Abstract: A mattress which increases the surface area contacting the patient's skin, and which conforms evenly to the skin over the skin/surface interface. A mattress includes a flat layer of foam that is temperature sensitive and which has rate-dependent deflection which provides maximal hysteric dampening and maximal tissue/surface interface contact. Different stiffnesses of foam are used under key areas to allow support and at the same time to allow the tissue to reach mechanical equilibrium. The maximal surface contact will apply constant low pressure to the tissues, thus reducing the shear force and the risk of tissue injury.

  • Patent number: 5910448
Abstract: The process of this invention comprises providing a membrane for separating CO.sub.2 into a first CO.sub.2 sample phase and a second CO.sub.2 analyte phase. CO.sub.2 is then transported through the membrane thereby separating the CO.sub.2 with the membrane into a first CO.sub.2 sample phase and a second CO.sub.2 analyte liquid phase including an ionized, conductive, dissociated CO.sub.2 species. Next, the concentration of the ionized, conductive, dissociated CO.sub.2 species in the second CO.sub.2 analyte liquid phase is chemically amplified using a water-soluble chemical reagent which reversibly reacts with undissociated CO.sub.2 to produce conductivity changes therein corresponding to fluctuations in the partial pressure of CO.sub.2 in the first CO.sub.2 sample phase. Finally, the chemically amplified, ionized, conductive, dissociated CO.sub.2 species is introduced to a conductivity measuring instrument. Conductivity changes in the chemically amplified, ionized, conductive, dissociated CO.sub.

  • Patent number: 5896189
Abstract: The invention is directed to photographic flashing during photographic enlarging, when areas requiring darkening can be seen and selectively flashed and provides a photographic enlarger, a photographic negative, a photographic printable substrate, and the auxiliary light source of the present invention. Photographic enlarging of the photographic negative is conducted by emitting light from the photographic enlarger and printing an enlarged photographic image from the photographic negative onto the photographic printable substrate. The auxiliary light source includes controls, which are preferably independently adjustable, for varying (a) light intensity, (b) the area of projected light, (c) contrast, when used with variable contrast enlarging paper, and (d) color hue and density, when used in color enlarging from color negatives.

  • Patent number: 5874828
Abstract: An OFF-state voltage generating circuit regulates an OFF-state voltage level, for thin film transistors (TFT) in a liquid crystal display (LCD). A voltage generator receives a common voltage signal and an inverted common voltage signal and generates an OFF-state voltage to turn off the TFT of an LCD. A voltage regulator adjusts the level of the voltage from the voltage generator by varying the resistance of a variable resistor. A timing circuit keeps the voltage regulator from operating for a time during the initial ON-state of the power supply.

  • Patent number: 5852349
Abstract: An integrated circuit for driving a three-phase motor in response to a single signal of the three-phase signals to be applied to stator coils of the motor. The circuit comprises a first amplifier for amplifying the single signal on the basis of a first inverse phase signal, which is a 180.degree. phase-shifted signal relative to the single signal, and outputting a first amplified phase signal. A first phase shifter receives the first phase signal and generates a second phase signal in response to the first phase signal, the second phase signal having a phase difference of 120.degree. relative to the first phase signal. A second phase shifter receives the first inverse phase signal and generates a second inverse phase signal in response to the first inverse phase signal, the second inverse phase signal having a phase difference of 120.degree. relative to the first inverse phase signal.

  • Patent number: 5852529
Abstract: A digital signal recorder affixes m bits as a prefix to an input information word of n bits to be encoded into a channel word of n+m bits in parallel. The channel word is divided by a common divisor of the period of the channel word of n+m bits and the period of a pilot signal track pattern useful for read head tracking during playback of the recorded data, to form a series of channel word segments. Spectrum data for all possible values or bit patterns of the divided channel word segments, relative to the track patterns, are stored in look-up tables. The channel word having the frequency characteristic of the desired track pattern is selected by accessing the look-up table using the divided channel word (channel word segment) to provide address bits, so that the selected channel word can be processed, selected and recorded in real time.

  • Patent number: 5848024
Abstract: A column decoder of a semiconductor memory device operates in synchronism to an external system clock to decode externally-supplied column addresses. The column decoder has a column select line enable unit which decodes the externally-supplied column addresses and generates a plurality of predecoded column addresses. The column decoder uses a predecoder to predecode the externally-supplied column addresses and generate the predecoded column addresses. The column select line enable unit also uses the predecoder to sample one of the predecoded column addresses in synchronism to the external system clock using an automatic control clock, thereby enabling a column select line. A precharge pulse generator latches one of the predecoded column addresses in response to a first level of the external system clock, triggers to the latched signal in response to a second level of the external system clock, and thereby generates a precharge pulse which is delayed by a specified amount.

  • Patent number: 5844438
Abstract: An internal clock generating circuit for data output buffers of a synchronous DRAM device, which produces an internal clock with reference to either the positive edge or the negative edge of the system clock CLK by comparing the reference time t.sub.CLref(OH) for insuring a low level time tCL of the system clock CLK and output hold time t.sub.OH, and which can sufficiently insure the data output setup time t.sub.OS and data output hold time t.sub.OH regardless of the frequency of the system clock by making the generation points of the internal clock to be varied depending on the frequency of the system clock.

  • Patent number: 5838189
Abstract: A substrate voltage generating circuitry for a dynamic random access memory (DRAM) generates the substrate voltage using an intermittently enabled charge pump. The value to which the substrate voltage is regulated is adjusted responsive to the static refresh and dynamic refresh characteristics of the memory cells. The adjustment is made in the portion of the substrate voltage generating circuit used for sensing the substrate potential, using fusible links that can be interrupted or cut with a laser beam. Novel circuitry for sensing the substrate potential, which does not load the substrate so as to dissipate charge placed thereon by the charge pump, is used in preferred substrate voltage generating circuitry.
