Abstract: The present invention relates to an optical reader that includes a color imaging assembly that generates color imaging data. There is described an optical reader that can associate an acquired color image with additional data.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable bar code reading device that generates electronic representations of a substrate having a bar code symbol disposed thereon. A portable bar code reading device according to the invention can incorporate a solid state image sensor and can generate first and second electronic representations. The first and second electronic representations generated by a portable bar code reading device in one embodiment represent first and second regions of the substrate that are of different sizes. A portable bar code reading device having a memory and a trigger can be configured to attempt to decode a bar code symbol by processing of an electronic representation and further can be configured so that the first and second electronic representations are stored into the memory after a single depressing of the trigger.
Abstract: An adapter for permitting a medical diagnostic instrument having an illumination source including at least one LED (light emitting diode) to be used with a power supply normally configured for use with a diagnostic instrument having at least one incandescent lamp as an illumination source. The adapter includes circuitry for compensating LED specific characteristics for permitting the power supply to be used with the LED.

Abstract: A composite core for an investment casting process, the core including both a ceramic portion and a refractory metal portion, with the refractory metal portion being so disposed as to perform the function of a plurality of such refractory metal elements. In particular, a refractory metal element attached to a trailing edge of a ceramic element extends beyond the plane of a tip end of the ceramic element so as to replace the refractory metal element otherwise extending from the ceramic tip edge. The refractory metal element also extends beyond the space to be occupied by the wax casting, both in the direction of the tip end and the trailing edge such that improved placement and securing of the core is facilitated during the casting process. A further embodiment uses a single refractory metal element that extends into both the airfoil portion and an orthogonal extending platform portion thereof.
Abstract: A method for decoding a decodable symbol using an optical reader having a 2D image sensor that is configured to operate in a partial frame capture operating mode. In a partial frame operating mode, the reader clocks out and captures at least one partial frame of image data having image data corresponding to less than all of the pixels of an image sensor pixel array. In one embodiment, the reader operating in a partial frame operating mode captures image data corresponding to a linear pattern of pixels of the image sensor, reads the image data, and attempts to decode for a decodable bar code symbol which may be represented in the image data.

Abstract: In the present invention, an optical reader image sensor is adapted to clock out image data from an image sensor according to “low resolution” mode of operation in order to reduce a parameter determination delay of the reader. In a low resolution mode, some pixels of the readers image sensor array are clock out at normal clock out speed sufficient to develop electrical signals accurately reflecting the intensity of light at the respective pixel positions, while other pixels of the array are either not clocked out or are clocked out at a higher clock out rate which may be insufficient to allow development of electrical signals that accurately represent light incident on the image sensor's sensor array but which nevertheless, results in a reduction of the overall frame clock out rate of the frame of image data.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for protecting a filter trap that is utilized in a coaxial cable system against theft of service. A barrier is mounted inside a filter housing which includes a pair of end connectors that are aligned along a common axis. The barrier is mounted on one or both end faces plate or isolation shield for intercepting a cutting tool moving along the axis to direct the tool away from the axis. At least one opening in the plate adjacent to the barrier engages the intercepted cutting tool and further directs the tool away from the axis causing the tool to break or to prevent the formation of a passage between the end connectors.
Abstract: A distinct female cultivar of Salix viminalis×S. miyabeana named ‘Otisco’, characterized by rapid stem growth producing greater than 42% more woody biomass than one of its parents (‘SX64’) and 33% more biomass than a current production cultivar (‘SV1’). ‘Otisco’ produced greater than 2.5-fold more stem biomass than two other current production cultivars, ‘SX67’ and ‘SX61’. ‘Otisco’ can be planted from dormant stem cuttings, produces multiple stems after coppice, and the stem biomass can be harvested when the plant is dormant. In the spring following harvest, the plant will re-sprout very vigorously, producing new stems that can be harvested after two to four years of growth. This harvest cycle can be repeated several times. The stem biomass can be chipped and burned as a source of renewable energy, generating heat and/or electricity. ‘Otisco’ displays a low incidence of rust disease and is not damaged by potato leafhoppers.
