Patent number: 7823756Abstract: A container using a flexible membrane integrated into the throat or egress passageway of a bottle. The membrane forms a portion of the passageway's sidewall. The membrane flexes inward when an external force is applied causing the inner walls of the passageway to frictionally mate together and restrict the flow of a fluid or non-fluid through the passageway and flexes outward when the force is removed allowing the inner walls of the passageway to move away from one another and allow the flow of the fluid through the passageway.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2007Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Inventor: Kenneth A. Patent number: 7661737Abstract: A pre-failure warning indicator is provided for use with a sling. The pre-failure warning indicator triggers at a point that is predictable within a relatively narrow range, thereby increasing the possibility that a damaged sling is removed from use. The pre-failure warning indicator includes a dedicated strand of material that is placed in close proximity to the load-bearing core yarns of the sling but remains separate and independent from the core yarns; the ends of the dedicated strand are connected via a sacrificial “ring.” A warning fiber having an end that is visible to operators/riggers works in conjunction with the sacrificial strand and the ring. The ring is designed to fail when the sling is subjected to a specifically chosen condition (e.g., excessive weight). The failure of the ring causes the warning fiber to withdraw from the rigger's view thereby warning the rigger that the sling was subjected to the specifically chosen condition and may be damaged.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2006Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Slingmax, Inc.Inventor: Dennis St. Germain

Patent number: 7654710Abstract: The present invention is an improved emergency luminaire, which is recess-mounted flush within a wall or ceiling aperture, having an enclosure, a panel, a light source, a means for rotating the panel from the closed position to the open position and a means for rotating the panel from the open position to the closed position. The means for rotating the panel from the closed position to the open position includes a single-directional motor. Upon electrical power failure to the primary lighting source in the room, the single-directional drive motor is activated causing the panel to rotate 180 degrees from a closed position to an open position, thereby exposing the light source to view. Substantially simultaneously with the panel opening, power stored in batteries are connected to the light source, causing it to illuminate. When the primary electrical power is restored, the light source is extinguished and the single-directional drive motor is activated returning the panel to its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2006Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: Evenlite, Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Williams, Robert A. Flieder, Adrian V. Pavitt

Patent number: 6973793Abstract: A method for determining airflow through an evaporator coil in a vapor compression cycle by measuring the moist air conditions entering and leaving the coil, and various temperatures and pressures in the refrigerant of the vapor compression cycle. The mass airflow rate and the volumetric airflow rate are then determined.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2003Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Assignee: Field Diagnostic Services, Inc.Inventors: Jonathan D. Patent number: 6929727Abstract: The invention provides an arc coating apparatus having a steering magnetic field source comprising steering conductors disposed along the short sides of a rectangular target behind the target, and a magnetic focusing system disposed along the long sides of the target in front of the target which confines the flow of plasma between magnetic fields generated on opposite long sides of the target. The plasma focusing system can be used to deflect the plasma flow off of the working axis of the cathode. Each steering conductor can be controlled independently. In a further embodiment, electrically independent steering conductors are disposed along opposite long sides of the cathode plate, and by selectively varying a current through one conductor, the path of the arc spot shifts to widen an erosion corridor. The invention also provides a plurality of internal anodes, and optionally a surrounding anode for deflecting the plasma flow and preserving a high ionization level of the plasma.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2003Date of Patent: August 16, 2005Assignee: G & H Technologies, LLCInventor: Vladimir I. Gorokhovsky
