Abstract: New oil components for cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications consist of reaction products of epoxidized triglyceride oils with monohydric alcohols containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The oil components are produced by reacting an epoxidized triglyceride oil containing from about 4 to about 8% by weight of epoxide oxygen, preferably an epoxidized soya bean oil containing from about 6 to about 7% by weight of epoxide oxygen, in the presence of an acidic catalyst with a monohydric C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alcohol, preferably methanol, in excess at the boiling temperature of the alcohol until the oxirane rings have been completely opened, followed by neutralizing the catalyst and distilling off the excess alcohol. The new oil components are eminently suitable, inter alia, for the production of cosmetic stick preparations.

Abstract: For the production of fatty acid esters of short-chain, aliphatic alcohols by the catalytic transesterification of natural fats and/or oils containing free fatty acids (oil phase) with the corresponding monoalcohols, the oil phase is subjected to preliminary esterification with the monoalcohols in the presence of acidic esterification catalysts at temperatures no higher than 120.degree. C. and under pressures no higher than 5 bars and in the presence of a liquid entraining agent substantially immiscible with the oil phase, after which the reaction product is separated into an entraining agent phase containing the acidic catalyst and water of reaction and the treated oil phase, the oil phase is then subjected to transesterification while the acidic catalyst-containing entraining agent phase is returned, after at least partial drying, to the preliminary esterification stage.

Abstract: A process for the nondegenerative distillation of C.sub.6 -C.sub.24 -fatty acids, of the type obtained by splitting natural fats and oils or by synthetic processes, such as for example the oxidation of paraffins, the crude product is thermally dried under reduced pressure, the dried and heated crude product is subjected to fractional evaporation in falling-film evaporators, optionally in the presence of superheated steam, and the various vapor fractions are deposited in condensers. The thermal drying process is conducted at a temperature of 60.degree.-80.degree. C. and a pressure of 90-100 mbars. The de-watered crude product is fractionated in a film-forming evaporator and, after distillation, passes to a rectification column which condenses the low boiling constituents as the main runnings.
