  • Patent number: 8346591
Abstract: A method, system, and program for automating responses by grid providers to bid request indicating criteria for a grid job are provided. A bid controller grid service of a grid provider receives a job request from a client for processing a job within a grid environment of the grid provider, wherein the job request specifies at a least one criteria required for the grid provider to handle a particular grid job. The grid service determines whether the grid environment includes the hardware platform class, software platform class, and network bandwidth required by the job request. If the grid service determines that the grid environment includes a sufficient hardware platform class, software platform class, and network bandwidth, then a total required workload for the job request is calculated.

  • Patent number: 8321787
Abstract: A virtual lobby client automatically interfaces with multiple virtual world instances, each provided by a separate virtual world provider from among multiple virtual world providers, each interfaced with to access a separate virtual world account, to retrieve a separate selection of inventory items from each virtual world account. The virtual lobby client renders an inventory directory index of each separate selection of inventory items within a single lobby interface with at least one selectable option for managing each of the items in the inventory directory from the single lobby interface. The virtual lobby client renders, within the single lobby interface, a separate graphical portal for each virtual account, wherein entry of each of the separate graphical portals triggers the virtual lobby client to automatically open a virtual world specific interface window into a particular virtual world instance provided under the particular virtual world account associated with the entered graphical portal.

  • Patent number: 8275881
Abstract: A method, system, and program for managing escalating resource needs within a grid environment are provided. A job is submitted into a first selection of resources in a grid environment from among a hierarchy of discrete sets of resources accessible in the grid environment. Discrete sets of resources may include locally accessible resources, enterprise accessible resources, capacity on demand resources, and grid resources. The performance of the first selection of resources is monitored and compared with a required performance level for the job. If the required performance level is not met, then the discrete sets of resources are queried for available resources to meet the required performance level in an order designated by said hierarchy. Available resources in a next discrete set of resource from the hierarchy of discrete sets of resources are added to a virtual organization of resources handling the job within the grid environment.

  • Patent number: 8233190
Abstract: A printer status interface controller displays an interface at a client system with a first color from among a plurality of colors associated with a first print cartridge position associated, from among a plurality of print cartridge positions of a printer. The printer status interface controller receives a user selection within the interface to specify an association of a second color from among the plurality of colors with the first print cartridge position. Responsive to the user selection to associate the second color with the first print cartridge position, a printer color association controller adjusts a reference to the first color in a print document to print in the second color through a second print cartridge in a second print cartridge position from among the plurality of print cartridge positions.

  • Patent number: 8136118
Abstract: A system for maintaining application operations within a suboptimal grid environment includes a grid management system. The grid management system submits an application from among multiple applications to at least one resource node of a grid environment, wherein separate jobs each request at least one of the multiple applications. The grid management system monitors a performance status of the at least one resource node running the application according to a profile for the application. The grid management system compares the performance status with an operational requirement specified in the profile for when the application is operating at the at least one resource node. The grid management system, responsive to the performance status not meeting the operational requirement, adjusts the use by the application of resource nodes in the grid environment according to the profile, such that the application continues to operate when suboptimal conditions arise in the grid environment.

  • Patent number: 8133061
Abstract: A dual-sided connector pin interposer includes a substrate comprising a first side opposite a second side. The interposer includes a first plurality of flexible pins protruding from the first side of the substrate. The first plurality of flexible pins is positioned for installation in a first plurality of pad connectors of the pinless socket. The interposer includes a second plurality of flexible pins protruding from the second side of the substrate. The second plurality of flexible pins is positioned for installation in a second plurality of pad connectors of the pinless integrated circuit component. The first plurality of flexible pins are electrically connected to the second plurality of flexible pins through the substrate to provide electrical contact points between the pinless socket and the pinless integrated circuit component when the interposer is installed.

  • Patent number: 8006241
Abstract: An application installation and removal system and method comprising: an operating system for controlling and maintaining resources on a computer; and an event monitor configured to detect availability of a new software to be installed on the client; receive a list of new software on the client; perform installation of the software on the client wherein performing installation comprises creating a record of all user defined applications on the client immediately prior to performing the installation in a log file; installing the new software on the client; rebooting the client after the installation of the new software on the client; and resorting all the user defined applications recorded in the log file to the same state as the user defined applications were prior to the installation of the new software.

  • Patent number: 8001126
Abstract: Previously conducted conversations in real-time collaboration messages are persistently stored, either by client or a server, and then are associated with conversational items presented to a user (e.g. contact names, topics, etc.). An icon is provided near each listed item, which when selected, displays to the user summaries or titles of all transcripts to which the selected item pertains or relates. The user may select one or more summaries or titles for which the conversation is to be resumed, causing the system to retrieve the stored transcript and resume appending new conversational entries to it, so that the user recovers conversational context effortlessly and accurately. Enhanced versions of the invention include sharing of transcripts so that all participants receive the context of the conversation, and server-side or client-side implementations.
