Patent number: 6020055Abstract: A composite mixture of spherical objects and lubricant useful for its cushioning properties is disclosed and claimed. The composite mixture may be composed of microspheres typically less than 2000 microns in diameter with inert atmospheres sealed within their interiors and any of a variety of lubricants facilitating sliding and rolling movement between microspheres. Typically the composite mixture includes lubricant in a quantity sufficient to substantially coat the exterior surface of essentially all of the spherical objects, but in a quantity less than would cause dispersion of the spherical objects in the lubricant sufficient to physically separate the spherical objects from each other and substantially reduce the sliding and rolling contact of the spherical objects with each other. Low specific gravity, low thermal mass, low coefficient of heat transfer, lack of head pressure, insulative and flotation qualities are provided by the invention.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1996Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignees: TekSource, LC, Nike, Inc.Inventor: Tony M. Patent number: 5845677Abstract: The present invention relates to a dual throttle valve of a car which includes an intake pipe divided into a primary intake path for low speed and a secondary intake path for middle or high speed, a primary throttle valve, a secondary throttle valve, a pinion, a fan-shaped gear, and a semi-circular member, wherein at a low speed, only the primary throttle valve rotates to open the primary intake path having a smaller diameter than the secondary intake path and at a middle or high speed, the primary and secondary throttle valves rotate sequentially to open the primary and secondary intake paths gradually even when the sudden accelerating for starting or outrunning occurs, so that waste of fuel at a low speed due to the sudden oversupply of gas and the occurrence of harmful exhaust gas due to the incomplete combustion at a middle or high speed can be prevented by controlling the amount of the intake gas.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1996Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: Kia Motors CorporationInventor: Yong-Woo Kim

Patent number: 5732150Abstract: A method and system for segmenting images of samples stained with two, three, or more stains accurately and reliably into multiple single-color images which represent the mass density of the stain at each position in the sample. The system includes a computer-controlled microscope and CCD camera, and at least one computer which includes data storage media for storing image data and which runs software for controlling image acquisition and analysis. To analyze tissue stained with N stains, images must be obtained at N different wavelengths, from multiply stained and singly stained samples. Relative stain mass densities are calculated with the use of the ratio of absorptivities measured at different wavelengths. The theoretical and practical basis for implementing the method with two, three, or more stains is presented. A method for selecting the wavelengths which provide optimal image accuracy and resolution is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1995Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: IHC Health Services, Inc.Inventors: Ruixia Zhou, Elizabeth H. Hammond, Dennis L. Parker

Patent number: 5592706Abstract: A cushion that includes a base and numerous bladders locatable on the base is disclosed and claimed. Each bladder contains a quantity of filler insufficient to completely fill the bladder, and each bladder has a loose or elastomeric skin to accommodate its conforming to the shape of an object to be supported by the cushion. The top surface of each bladder acts as a hammock when supporting a cushioned object, and the bladders interact with each other to accommodate protuberance and crevices of the cushioned object. Other embodiments of the invention include a cushion that is pre-shaped in a form complementary to the shape of the object to be cushioned, and a cushion that re-shapes itself to maintain supporting forces that are generally equal across the contact surface of the supported object.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1993Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Assignees: TekSource, LC, Nike, Inc., Nike International, Ltd.Inventor: Tony M.
