  • Patent number: 7227724
Abstract: A head actuator assembly includes a coarse positioner base assembly that is mounted on a guide shaft and an anti-rotation shaft and provides increased structural rigidity due to a four-point support and spring loading of the coarse positioner base against the anti-rotation shaft. A two-part head-carriage and voice coil holder system permits different materials to be used for the head-carriage and the voice coil holder, obviating structural problems of a single-structured head-carriage and coil-holder system. A flexible printed circuit bracket eases manufacture and allows flexible printed circuits to be slid into the bracket and retained in place without the need for locating tabs and screws.

  • Patent number: 7221750
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems directed to managing wireless node access to one or more wireless networks. According to one implementation, a business logic application may function as a package tracking application to manage access to wireless access points in different WLANs along the route. A sensor node is initialized and configured with one or more connection parameter sets allowing it to associate with a given wireless network implemented by one or more access points. In one implementation, the sensor node is configured only to accept received wireless frames that it can properly decrypt using the currently stored encryption key. When the sensor node and such a wireless access point associate, they may exchange encrypted information (e.g., data regarding the package) using an encryption key. Before the sensor node disassociates with time wireless access point, the wireless access point transmits a new connection parameter set to the sensor node.

  • Patent number: 7222289
Abstract: A low-density parity check device can process data using a special low-density parity check matrix having a size of n-rows by m-columns. By styling the matrix such that the matrix is composed of p equal-size sqaure sub-matrices, only the first row of the first sub-matrix need be generated and stored. By then further constraining each of the sub-matrices to form various sub-portions, with each sub-portion constructed such that any two columns within the sub-portion will have no common location containing a non-zero entry, processing advantages are gained.

  • Patent number: 7212837
Abstract: In a wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system, a hierarchical architecture is provided which employs a protocol which divides protocol processing functions between a plurality of substantially identical access elements in which reside time-critical protocol functions, such as acknowledgment and retransmission of packets, and a centralized control element which provides control and management functions related to dynamic configuration of wireless networks, such as processing of network management messages (e.g., authentication and association), load control, channel control, and handoff, processing of physical layer information, and processing of channel characteristics, propagation, interference or noise, for the plurality of access elements in the WLAN without loss of information about the wireless characteristics of the access elements.

  • Patent number: 7205938
Abstract: A wireless node location mechanism that dynamically adapts to changes to a surrounding physical environment that affect the propagation of radio signals. The wireless node location mechanism assesses radio signals from transmitters associated with a wireless node location infrastructure to adjust one or more parameters used to estimate location of a wireless node. In one implementation, path loss exponents are re-computed based on the signals transmitted between infrastructure radio transceivers. These path loss exponents are used, in one implementation, to compute the distance between a wireless node and a given infrastructure radio transceiver and, ultimately, to determine the location of the wireless node based on triangulation. In one implementation, path loss exponents are computed on demand based on the signals observed between infrastructure radios that detect the wireless node whose location is to be estimated.

  • Patent number: 7174689
Abstract: A concrete anchor float that, in one embodiment, facilitates the placement of anchor bolts that protrude from concrete constructions, such as foundations. The concrete anchor float of the present invention can be used with nearly any conventional anchor bolt to insure the correct placement and alignment of the anchor bolt and to promote a strong bond between the anchor bolt and the concrete. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the concrete anchor float generally comprises a base plate with a hole, and a cap extending from the base plate over the hole. The cap includes a cavity configured to releasably secure the anchor bolt, and a top against which the anchor bolt rests upon insertion. • Patent number: 7164859
Abstract: A novel wavelength routing apparatus is disclosed, which uses a diffraction grating to separate a multi-wavelength optical signal from an input port into multiple spectral channels; a channel-interleaving assembly (e.g., an array of prisms) to interleave the spectral channels into two channel groups; and an “augmented relay system” to relay the interleaved channel groups onto two separate arrays of channel micromirrors, respectively. The channel micromirrors are individually controllable and pivotable to reflect the spectral channels into multiple output ports. As such, the inventive wavelength routing apparatus is capable of routing the spectral channels on a channel-by-channel basis and coupling any spectral channel into any one of the output ports.

  • Patent number: 7154416
Abstract: Adaptive control of codebook regeneration in data compression mechanisms. In one implementation, the present invention provides a means controlling the frequency of codebook updates based on expected performance gains resulting from codebook regeneration. The present invention, in one implementation, employs a mechanism that simulates the expected compression performance of a hypothetically, updated codebook. A compression module compares the simulated compression performance to the actual performance of the codebook used to compress the data, and updates the codebook if a threshold condition is satisfied.
