Patent number: 7200110Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for the ordered release of connections from a network entity in a signalling communications network upon the detection of the failure of a signalling link or a port corresponding to such connections. A priority indicator is associated with each of the connections. Each priority indicator is selected from a priority hierarchy having several priority levels which varies from highest priority to lowest priority. Upon detection of the failure of a signalling link or port, every connection associated with the failed signalling link or port is released. The release of the connections takes place at the network entity in a sequence which corresponds to the priority hierarchy. A method and device are also provided for the ordered release of connections carried on a logical truck having a variable capacity, for example an IMA trunk, upon the detection of a reduction in capacity. The IMA trunk may be provided on several physical links.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1999Date of Patent: April 3, 2007Assignee: Alcatel Canada Inc.Inventors: John C. Burns, Jonathan L Bosloy

Patent number: 7190671Abstract: Methods and apparatus for mitigating denial of service attacks in a communications network are described. Frequency domain techniques such as Fourier Transform are used to detect packet flooding in which a frequency spectrum reveals a periodic pattern to the attack packets. A pulse generator is used to create pulses having the frequency and phase of the periodic pattern. New packets arriving simultaneously with the created pulses are dropped from the system and packets which are not synchronized with the pulse generator are passed through the system normally.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2002Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Alcatel Canada Inc.Inventors: Scott D'Souza, Paul Kierstead

Patent number: 7190112Abstract: A method of making an organic light emitting device (OLED) is disclosed wherein an inert insulating conformal smoothing layer is deposited over a protruding structure. The smoothing layer is patterned to expose portions of the structure underlying the smoothing layer and defining active regions of the device. The inert smoothing layer is treated, preferably by heat reflow, to taper the layer over the stepped edges of the structure on the exposed portions. Additional layers are then deposited over the smoothing layer and the exposed portions of the structure. The smoothing layer blunts all underlying layer edges and provides sloped edges wherever a step occurs from one layer to another. This effect results in a homogeneous field across the pixel and the continuity in the layers deposited after the photoresist layer.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2006Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: National Research Council of CanadaInventor: Ye Tao

Patent number: 7177924Abstract: The solution provides automated Command Line Interface (CLI) based configuration management of managed communications network entities. The automation eliminates manual CLI command entry and provides support for independently-developed multi-vendor equipment by using multiple CLI command vocabularies and CLI command dictionaries associated therewith. The solution reduces communications network entity management costs, downtime, and training time for analysts. The advantages are derived from a generic design of software applications and a manageable object type derivation hierarchy, reducing operational over heads by shielding thereof from updates to the CLI command grammar and/or vocabulary. Patent number: 7145868Abstract: A method and system for detecting and controlling congestion in a multi-port shared memory switch in a communications network. The proposed congestion management scheme implements a local and a global congestion monitoring process. The local monitoring process monitors the queue depth. When the queue depth for any queue exceeds a queue length threshold a congestion control mechanism is implemented to limit incoming data traffic destined for that queue. Additionally, the global congestion monitoring process monitors the shared memory buffer and if the traffic thereto exceeds a shared memory buffer threshold a congestion control mechanism limits incoming traffic destined for any output queue which has been exceeding a fair share threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1997Date of Patent: December 5, 2006Assignee: Alcatel Canada Inc.Inventors: Natalie Giroux, Mustapha Aïssaoui

Patent number: 7132656Abstract: According to this invention, silicon-based photodetectors using waveguides formed with silicide regions can have high speed and high efficiency for near IR applications. Utilizing the unique properties of silicides, the proposed method provides a simple and elegant way to implement a photodetector design in which photogenerated carriers travel perpendicular to the direction of light propagation. Therefore, the speed and quantum efficiency of the photodetector may be optimized independently. This device configuration may be implemented in one of the two approaches: (a) waveguides formed through surface silicidation of a silicon-based layer of a substrate (b) waveguides formed through silicidation of ridge waveguide side-walls of a silicon-based layer of a substrate; The use of mature silicon technology promises low cost of production and other benefits.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2004Date of Patent: November 7, 2006Assignee: National Research Council of CanadaInventors: Dan-Xia Xu, Siegfried Janz

Patent number: 7130877Abstract: Methods and components for processing Universal Resource Locator (URL) requests for web content are presented. The application servers and/or application software implement request switching components adapted to route URL requests for web content to servlets adapted to perform modularized functionality in servicing URL requests. The combination of request switch and servlet components define a request processing network. The advantages are derived from a flexibility in adding, modifying, and removing servlets from the request processing network at reduced regression testing. Each URL request is optimally routed only to necessary components to service the request. The use of request switches consolidates and simplifies the servlet triggering functionality in selecting servlets to service each URL request enabling specialized processing of URL requests.
