Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the hydroxyalkylation of aldoximes and ketoximes by reacting said oximes with unsubstituted or substituted ethylene or propylene carbonate in the presence of a catalyst, which comprises the use of catalytic amounts of a N-alkylated, stable, organic amidinc base or a pyridine which is substituted by a secondary amino group. The compounds are important intermediates for the synthesis of herbicides.

Abstract: The invention relates to compounds of formula ##STR1## wherein W, X, Y.sup.1, Y.sup.2, Z, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.14 are as defined in the description, and to the preparation thereof, to weed control compositions and plant-growth-regulating compositions comprising such compounds as active ingredients, and to the use of the active ingredients or compositions for controlling weeds and for regulating plant growth.

Abstract: Compounds of formula I ##STR1## wherein R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or benzyl, are prepared by reacting a butanal of formula II ##STR2## wherein X and Y are each independently of the other chloro, bromo or iodo, in an inert solvent, with a compound of formula IIIR-S-Me (III)wherein R is as defined above and Me is an alkali metal cation, and converting the resultant compound of formula IV ##STR3## wherein X and R are as defined above, in an inert solvent and in the presence of a base, into a compound of formula I.

Abstract: A process for the photochemical stabilization of wool is described, which comprises treating the wool with an aqueous solution comprising at least one UV absorber of the formula ##STR1## in which at least one of the substituents R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 is a radical of the formula ##STR2## in which M is hydrogen; or an equivalent of a cation;m is 1 or 2, andthe remaining substituent(s), independently of one another, are C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl; C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkoxy; C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkylthio; C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkylamino; di-C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkylamino; phenyl; phenoxy; phenylthio, anilino; or N-phenyl-N-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylamino;The UV absorbers can be used in a wide pH range and effectively reduce yellowing of the wool.

Abstract: The invention relates to a dye mixture containing a dye of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is methyl or ethyl and at least one dye of the formulae (2) and (3) ##STR2## in which D is substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, thiophenyl or benzothiazolyl, R.sub.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, R.sub.3 is substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, and R.sub.4 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and ##STR3## in which R.sub.5 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl. The dye mixture is distinguished by generally good properties, in particular by good exhaustion.

The dye mixture is distinguished by generally good properties, in particular by good exhaustion.
