  • Patent number: 5845359
Abstract: An applicator for paint and coatings includes a housing, roller, brush, spreader, and handle. The roller, brush, and spreader are positioned on the housing so that they can each be used independently of one another and so that any combination of them can be engaged at any time while the applicator is in use.

  • Patent number: 5786326
Abstract: A method for the treatment of atherosclerosis and vascular injury using exochelins, and more particularly exochelins of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, to prevent vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. Delivery of an effective amount of a desferri-Exochelins to a living organism such as an animal or a human by oral, intravenous or direct delivery to the site at which the effect is desired will protect blood vessels in a living organism from restenosis following angioplasty or vascular surgery and will prevent or slow the progression of atherosclerosis, systemic hypertension, radiation damage to the vasculature, stenosis or closure of bypass grafts to the coronary arteries or other blood vessels following a surgical procedure and various forms of pulmonary hypertension.

  • Patent number: 5747118
Abstract: A chemical transport process which is enhanced by a plasma formed in a substantially oxygen free hydrogen environment for formation of microcrystalline diamond films at a relatively low deposition temperature and a rate of about 1 .mu.m/hr. The process, performed at 80 to 180 Torr and a current density of about 1 amp/cm.sup.2 of substrate, can be scaled to deposit films on large areas. The invention further comprises doped diamond films produced by the process, said product having a well-faceted microcrystalline structure with x-ray diffraction pattern and Raman spectra indicative of a predominately diamond structure. The doped diamond films can function as n-type and p-type semiconductors.

  • Patent number: 5743080
Abstract: A vapor-air steam engine is described which operates at high pressure and utilizes a working fluid consisting of a mixture of compressed uncombusted air components, fuel combustion products and steam. In the new cycle described, working fluid is provided at constant pressure and temperatures. Combustion air is supplied adiabatically by one or more stages of compression. Fuel is injected at pressure as needed. At least about 40% to all of compressed air is burned. Inert liquid is injected at high pressure to produce steam and thus provide an inert high specific heat diluent vapor required for internal cooling of an internal combustion turbine or other type system. The use of extensive liquid injection inhibits the formation of pollutants, increases the efficiency and horsepower of an engine, and reduces specific fuel consumption. The new cycle may also be operated open or closed; in the latter case, the liquid may be recouped via condensation for regenerative reuse.

  • Patent number: 5721209
Abstract: Exochelins can be used to prevent damage to living tissue from the formation or presence of the (.cndot.OH) radical. In particular, the invention is directed to the administration of exochelins to infarcted myocardium prior to or coincidental with reperfusion to prevent damage to myocardium from iron mediated free radical formation. Also presented is the chemical structure of exochelins and modified exochelins as well as other applications of these materials in the treatment and diagnosis of disease in mammals.
