  • Patent number: 5196943
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for distributing image data borne on a selected one of a plurality of documents in response to a data request message identifying said selected one document. The data request message is transmitted by a data requestor over a transmission medium, e.g., typical telephone lines, to the distributing apparatus. The distributing apparatus comprises an addressable memory for storing the plurality of documents. A processing circuit, e.g., a voice board, receives said data request message over the transmission medium and provides address signals corresponding to the selected one document to the memory to read out document image signals therefrom corresponding to the selected one document. A further processing circuit, e.g., a fax board, is connected to the to receive the document image signals for generating and transmitting over the transmission medium to the data requestor a return message bearing image data of the selected one document.

  • Patent number: 5195634
Abstract: The present invention relates to a holder which makes it more difficult to misplace remote control units. The holder according to the present invention includes an enclosure having a compartment for holding a remote control unit therein when the remote control unit is idle and a cover which may be opened so that the remote control unit may be removed from the compartment for use and may be returned to the compartment after use. An attaching mechanism connects the remote control unit to the enclosure so that the remote control unit cannot be separated from its holder. Since the enclosure is larger than the remote control unit, it is more difficult to misplace the enclosure containing the remote control unit than it is to misplace the remote control unit alone.

  • Patent number: 5193583
Abstract: A rotary valve noise attenuator with a rotary ball control element and a noise attenuator member mounted in the ball having multiple, elongated, substantially enclosed channels formed across the valve opening to split the flow stream into several smaller flow streams. The channel walls are perforated so each smaller flow stream is further dispersed and diffused into many minute flow streams after entering the channel. A noise attenuator constructed of several corrugated sections fixed crest to crest to form several diamond shaped channels across the valve opening each having four side walls with holes.

  • Patent number: 5194801
Abstract: Prior power generation systems generated output voltages having relatively large, undesirable overvoltage transients due sudden load reduction. In order to overcome this disadvantage, a power generation system for generating a DC bus voltage on a DC bus is provided with a switch coupled across the DC bus to suppress overvoltage transients. The power generation system includes a synchronous generator that generates AC power and a rectifier that rectifies the AC power to produce DC power and supply the DC power to the DC bus. A voltage regulator controls magnitude of the DC bus voltage by varying the amount of current provided to a field winding associated with the synchronous generator. A switch is coupled across the DC bus and is repeatedly switched when the DC bus voltage reaches a predetermined magnitude. When the switch is in operation, the voltage regulator controls the DC bus voltage based upon an emulated voltage generated by a voltage emulator.

  • Patent number: 5193753
Abstract: An apparatus is described for reprocessing, i.e. disintegrating, used packing materials, for example unsorted domestic waste paper. The apparatus consists essentially of a first comminuting aggregate (14), a following trough-like housing (2) with agitating mechanism (4, 6) rotating therein and a further comminuting aggregate (18) arranged in the material exit well (16). The apparatus is further provided at its lower end with a heavy trash collecting chamber (26). The comminuting aggregates (14 and 18) are replaceable and depending upon the working requirements selection is possible between purely cutting, more chopping or also disintegrating tools. The first comminuting aggregate (14) serves to comminute the largely sheet-like raw material to a conveyable piece size while the second comminuting aggregate (18) serves essentially for fine comminution and disintegration of the material.

  • Patent number: 5191900
Abstract: A microdialysis probe for living tissue having respective inlet and outlet, fluid impermeable tubes connected by a dialysis fiber membrane permeable only to small molecular weight compounds. A U-shaped, loop probe tip configuration of the fiber membrane contains a biologically inert wire insertion to prevent kinking and ensure continuous fluid flow through the tip. The length and/or inner diameter of the outlet tube is selected with respect to a given flow rate to create an optimum positive fluid pressure inside the probe membrane tip sufficient to self-support the membrane during insertion and dialysis sampling. Alternative side-by-side and concentric probe configurations are described.

  • Patent number: 5186936
Abstract: A packing material for the treatment of infections, particularly of the teeth and gums. A biocompatible, polymeric carrier material, typically calcium alignate, has dispersed therein an antibiotic ester which typically defines at least one ester group of 10 to 18 carbon atoms per molecule. The antibiotic ester is present in the polymeric carrier in an initial concentration sufficient to allow the continuous, controlled release of at least an inhibitory concentration of free antibiotic as a hydrolysis product from the antibiotic ester. The rate of release of free antibiotic is influenced by the presence of bacterial lipase, so that a higher concentration of infectious bacteria causes the release of higher concentrations of free antibiotic, hydrolyzed from the ester, in a feedback loop.
