Abstract: A method of protecting copper and copper alloys from surface oxidation on an upper melted surface while melting copper and/or copper alloys, such as bronze, using a granular carbon sand layer thereover, such as the carbon sands disclosed in this assignee's U.S. Pat. Nos. 5,215,143 and/or 5,094,289.
Abstract: A fuel injector includes a valve member disposed at the upper end of the injector case adjacent a valve recess. The valve member includes a bore and a counterbore, and a tube having a bore is slidably disposed within the counterbore. The valve member bore and the tube bore define a fuel flow passage substantially coincident with the central axis of the injector. The valve member is spring biased to an open position to communicate fuel at transfer pump pressure to the valve recess. At the initiation of the injection cycle, an actuator, preferably an electrical solenoid, closes the valve against the spring force so that fuel is communicated along the central passage to a nozzle.

Abstract: The seat includes a back whose rear face is provided with a retractable table hinged thereto and including a strut having a first end pivotally mounted to the rear face of the back for selectively holding the table in a retracted position and in a deployed position. The table also has at least one cam secured to the rear face of the back and possessing a sliding path which co-operates resiliently with the strut, which strut has a second end slidably mounted relative to a guide secured to the table, the sliding path of the cam being curvilinear so as to oppose and enhance in succession the movement of the table from one of its two positions to the other.
Abstract: A control for a brushless generator is operable in a starting mode of operation to convert electrical power into motive power for starting a prime mover. The control applies AC power to an exciter field winding at a first frequency at the initiation of a start sequence and thereafter decreases the frequency of the power applied to the exciter field winding during the start sequence.

Abstract: In a passive identification apparatus for identifying a predetermined individual member of a television viewing audience in a monitored viewing area, a video image of a monitored viewing area is captured. A template matching score is provided for an object in the video image. A Eigenface recognition score is provided for an object in the video image. These scores may be provided by comparing objects in the video image to reference files. The template matching score and the Eigenface recognition score are fused to form a composite identification record from which a viewer may be identified. Body shape matching, viewer tracking, viewer sensing, and/or historical data may be used to assist in viewer identification. The reference files may be updated as recognition scores decline.
