Abstract: A purified, isolated DNA sequence encoding human bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein and biologically-active fragments thereof is provided.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for producing a transgenic angiosperm plant, particularly a monocot, comprising the step of transforming an immature embryo of an angiosperm plant with a DNA fragment expressible in said angiosperm embryo, said DNA fragment comprising a promoter region derived from an &agr;-amylase gene of a plant, and an exogenous gene encoding a desired gene product, said promoter region being inducible under a sugar-depleted or sugar-free condition to promote the expression of said gene, whereby at least a part of the resultant transgenic angiosperm plant has the ability to express said gene product. Transgenic angiosperm plants and transgenic angiosperm plant seeds are also disclosed. The transgenic angiosperm plant seeds may have application in the industrial production of alcohol, beer, glucose and the like.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of and a device for monitoring, from a central location, the current operating conditions (such as values of process parameters) in a process control network having distributed control functions. In one embodiment, the method and device of the present invention use scheduled periodic communications to send signals containing, for example, measured values of process parameters developed by field devices to a centralized viewing device. The viewing device receives the signals and stores at least one value of the process parameters, and maybe more values if necessary to monitor and control the process. To retrieve the stored process parameters for viewing, the viewing device processes messages from human interface devices requesting the stored values of one or more of the stored parameters and then transmits response messages containing the stored values.

Abstract: A rotary lobe pump is provided with an improved sealing mechanism between the rotor and outside diameter of the shaft upon which the rotor is mounted. An adapter is provided for the drive shaft which enables the drive shaft to be easily coupled to a variety of drive mechanisms. The adapter can be replaced with an alternative adapter suited to fit alternative drive mechanisms. An improved means for mounting the timing gears on the drive and driven shafts is provided which enables the timing gears to be easily adjusted during assembly to improve the rate at which rotary lobe pumps can be assembled. An improved shaft configuration is provided with a thicker boss section providing additional structural support at the timing gear. The shaft may be cast molded. An improved seal assembly is also provided whereby the seal is frictionally accommodated inside a sleevelike seal housing which, in turn, is frictionally accommodated inside the rotor.
Abstract: A remote control vehicle comprising a body having a front end and a rear end and provided with first and second ground engageable propulsion means respectively disposed on opposite sides of the vehicle and in which the first and second propulsion means are driven by first and second transmission means respectively to permit the vehicle to be propelled and steered by driving the propulsion means on one side of the vehicle independently from the propulsion means on the other side of the vehicle, a boom assembly having carrying means for carrying an implement on the boom assembly, the boom assembly being mounted on the body for lifting movement between a raised position and a lowered position by a lifting means and wherein the ground engageable propulsion means and the lifting means of the boom assembly are operable by a receiver, of an electromagnetic signal, provided on the body.
Abstract: A hair-treating composition containing a diester or polyester of a naphthalene dicarboxylic acid having compound formula (I) or (II), or mixtures; for imparting gloss and/or hair color stabilization:
wherein each R1, same or different, is an alkyl group having 1 to 22 carbon atoms, a diol having the structure HO—R2—OH, or a polyglycol having the structure HO—R3—(—O—R2—)m—OH, wherein R2 and R3, same or different, are each an alkylene group, sight chain or branched, having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and wherein m and n are each 1 to about 100, or a mixture thereof. These diesters and polyesters of formula (I) or (II) are quite effective in stabilizing the dibenzoylmethane derivative UV-A filter compounds making them more effective, and effective for longer periods of time.

Abstract: In order to provide a manner of supporting a load lock in a semi-trailer even during transport, a load lock rack kit includes a load lock rack comprising a generally planar shelf-like supporting surface having a front edge and a rear edge spaced therefrom and a pair of tie down fittings. The shelf-like supporting surface has at least one opening extending from the front edge to at least a point generally intermediate the front and rear edges to receive the shaft of the load lock wherein the opening is formed such that a bearing pad on at least one end of the shaft cannot pass through the opening. With this arrangement, the load lock rack also includes a plate for mounting the shelf-like supporting surface with the rear edge adjacent the side wall of the semi-trailer and a lip or angled surface to maintain the load lock on the load lock rack during transport of the semi-trailer.
Abstract: It relates to a vehicle seat comprising a seat part which is mounted on the vehicle floor by means of a front connection including a catch. This catch is provided with a notch intended to engage with a first horizontal transverse spindle integral with the floor in order to pivot the seat rearwards around said first spindle and to bring it into a use position where the seat part extends substantially horizontally. A finger projects frontwards and comprises an upper face turned in the opposite direction to the opening of the notch and intended to abut against stop means in said use position, these stop means being integral with the floor.
Abstract: Compliance with a standard is demonstrated by displaying a floor plan on a first computer. The displayed floor plan includes designated areas. Each designated area includes a corresponding communication link, and the designated areas are regulated by the standard. A message is transmitted to a second computer in response to selection of one of the designated areas by a user on the first computer. The message is dependent upon the communication link corresponding to the selected designated area and causes compliance information to be downloaded by the second computer to the first computer. The compliance information is displayed on the first computer and demonstrates that the selected designated area is in compliance with the standard.
Abstract: A method of erecting the shell of an aboveground storage tank involves erection of the first shell ring; erecting the second and higher shell rings by using a mobile man lift to provide access for the construction personnel to the shell plates being erected; and anchoring the structure to reduce the risk of blow-ins from ambient wind.

Abstract: A woven belt and method for weaving a belt are disclosed. The belt includes a woven outer webbing defining a length, the outer webbing having a top layer and a bottom. A plurality of binder yarns are woven into the outer webbing to secure together the top and bottom layers. The binder yarns are aligned substantially parallel to one another and to the length. A plurality of stuffer yarns extend through the top and bottom layers of the outer webbing and between the binder yarns. A plurality of simulated chain stitch yarns are woven into the outer webbing, the simulated chain stich yarns being aligned substantially parallel to one another and to the length.
Abstract: A two-pack system for the preparation of peracid compositions for the disinfection, cleaning, and protection of cow's teats before and after milking. A first component of the product comprises an aqueous equilibrated solution of a lower aliphatic peracid and a second component comprises an aqueous solution containing an emollient, food grade fragrance, food grade dye, food grade thickening agent, and alkali buffer. The two packs can be mixed to produce a consistent solution of known quality for reducing disease on cow's teats that is nonirritant, has low odor and/or contains a food grade fragrance and may be colored, thickened, pH buffered, and is effective for at least 24 hours after mixing.
Abstract: A waste fluid discharge column for use in a vacuum drainage system. The discharge column comprises a vertical pipe maintained under negative pressure to create a liquid column inside the vertical pipe. A chamber is attached to an upper end of the pipe and defines a vacuum port and a fluid inlet port. The chamber allows for better separation of waste fluid and air, and provides a vacuum buffer for the drainage system. The present invention further comprises a vacuum drainage system capable of separately handling multiple waste fluid flows. Two or more waste fluid discharge columns may be connected to a single vacuum source. Because the different types of waste fluid are handled separately, treatment and other auxiliary apparatus needed for certain types of waste fluid may be sized properly since the vacuum drainage system may direct only the waste fluid requiring treatment to the auxiliary apparatus.
