  • Patent number: 4149452
Abstract: An automatic machine and method of operation for erecting a flat blank to form a completely folded container. The machine has a blank feed mechanism that stores flat blanks and transfers individual blanks using pressure-aided means to an infeed opening in the machine. A pressure-assisted receiver vertically movable within the machine ascends to engage the blank present at the in-feed opening and then draws the blank, including any articles to be packaged loaded during a pause at the infeed opening, downwardly into the machine past a series of folding members to partially erect the blank into a tray-like container. The container is now advanced in a horizontal direction along guide means and past another arrangement of folding members to further fold the blank to form a semi-erected container. An elevator positioned to receive the processed blank from the guide means raises the semi-erected container into a compression chamber to complete final folding operations.

  • Patent number: 4142086
Abstract: Welding torch comprises a combination collet body which functions interchangeably for electric arc welding, of the open arc type using a consumable electrode, or for inert gas shielded welding using a non-consumable electrode. The collet body has a screw-threaded collar at one end which is screwed into the welding head. At the other end, it has a slitted or splined chuck. The slightly enlarged central body portion between the collar and the chuck includes a plurality of gas vents. For open arc welding, a consumable electrode, interposed into the chuck, is secured in place by a constricting metal adapter sleeve which also serves to close the gas vents. For inert gas shielded welding, the consumable electrode and the metal adapter are replaced by a nonconsumable electrode and a ceramic shield open at one end. The open vents permit inert gas to escape under the ceramic shield and surround the nonconsumable electrode during the welding process.

  • Patent number: 4136329
Abstract: Apparatus for use in conjunction with a vehicular engine, such as a large truck Diesel engine. The apparatus includes sensing elements responsive to respective engine operating conditions for providing signals when the respective conditions are adverse to the proper operation of the engine. When such a signal is generated, two things occur. First, a warning indication is given to the driver of the vehicle. Second, a timer is started. At the termination of the timing interval, the engine is disabled. This allows the driver of the vehicle time to pull it off the road in the event an engine malfunction occurs. There is further provided an override switch, the momentary operation of which restarts the timer in order to give the driver additional time.

  • Patent number: 4117591
Abstract: An improved nail clipping implement of the type comprising dual cutting-edge equipped spring arms incorporating a fold-away, pressure actuated lever mechanism for cooperatively operating the cutting edges. The improvement features a nail retaining clamping device simultaneously actuated by the lever mechanism to secure a nail trimming in position for the duration of the cutting operation, whereupon the trimming is subsequently and suitably disposed.

  • Patent number: 4108190
Abstract: A flushing attachment comprising a resilient belt is constructed to be wrapped around and secured on the lower motor housing so that a hose fitting fastened through an opening in the belt registers with one or more water inlet ports on one side of the housing. The belt is disposed in wrap-around position to cover one or more additional water ports on the opposite side of the housing. When the motor is removed for cleansing, a garden hose is attached to the hose fitting to apply tap water to the set of water inlet ports on the one side, forcing a portion of the water into the motor and out through the cooling system. The belt is flexed in response to excess water pressure, releasing from housing ports on the opposite side that portion of the water which does not pass through the engine.

  • Patent number: 4099470
Abstract: A device for attachment to a foldable card table, or the like, providing a convenient horizontal surface for drinks, snacks, etc., which is out of the way of the normal table playing surface. The attachement includes a rigid tongue which is designed to be interposed between the table top and the frame, and which serves to support a tray extending out from the edge of the table, preferably at the corner. One embodiment comprises a one-piece attachment having a rectangular tongue at one end, and providing an elliptical or semicircular tray surface at the other end, with a raised edge around the external periphery of the latter. In one variation, a slit on the inner edge of the tongue is designed to accommodate obstacles, such as bolts, between the top and frame at the table corner. In other embodiments, the tray is hinged to the external end of the tongue; and the tray portion is designed to fit over the table corner for storage purposes.

  • Patent number: 4095295
Abstract: An improved fluid-filled breast prosthesis for implantation which permits subsequent alterations in the fluid volume of the implant without the necessity for major surgery. The prosthesis comprises a flexible plastic bag having an elongated filler tube including a loop near its outer end. After the prosthesis has been interposed into the surgically prepared implant site, the filler tube is drawn out through a small stab wound connected to the site which terminates adjacent the arm pit. After the plastic bag is filled with fluid, the filler tube is plugged and clamped, and the loop is sutured to the tissue to hold the implant in place. The radiopaque nature of the plug and clamp, and a connected filament, enable the end of the tube to be readily located and grasped subsequent to the operation, using a simple office procedure to adjust the volume of fluid in the bag.

  • Patent number: 4089447
Abstract: A resilient back pack supporting member for carrying loads, particularly for hikers or mountaineers. The resilient supporting member is triangular in cross-section, with the thinner top portion designed to contact the shoulders and the thicker bottom portion designed to contact the lower back of the wearer. The support is fastened to the back by conventional shoulder straps, with the load strapped or otherwise secured to the external rear surface. In one embodiment, the support may be formed of a single triangular slab of foam rubber or the like, covered with a cloth skin. In another embodiment, the interior of the supporting member is stuffed with chips or small pieces of foam rubber or the like. In a third embodiment, the skin is a gas impervious bag which is pumped full of air or oxygen through conventional valve means.

  • Patent number: 4086775
Abstract: An improved method and system for generating power, more particularly, electrical power, from the wave motion of a large body of water. A central tower, closed at the top, which supports a substantial head of water above the mean water level of the large body of water, has at least one, and preferably a large number of, conduits connected between the top of the tower and a level between the high and mean liquid level of the body of water. Periodic wave motion washing over their lower ends builds up water pressure in the conduits, causing flow to the top of the tower, which causes a constant flow down through the tower. A turbine mounted in a Venturi constriction at an intermediate level in the tower is driven to rotate by the downward flow of water, causing a generator to produce electricity. In one embodiment, the primary tower is based on shore with an outlet to the sea.
