Patent number: 4120027Abstract: A collapsible lamp shade which can be assembled quickly and easily in any desired one of a variety of interchangeable external configurations comprising an interchangeable shade member formed of one of various flexible fabric materials having upper and lower continuous collar portions, upper and lower interchangeable hoop members, each including an outer circumferentially extending sidewall around which one of the shade member collar portions is located, and a substantially horizontal shelf portion which maintains the location of each collar portion. A plurality of support rods extend between the opposed hoop members to stretch the shade member, while, conversely, the stretched shade member maintains the support rods in a fixed position within the hoop members. One of various contour ring members may be located over a sidewall of and against a shelf portion of one or both hoop members to give a desired interchangeable outer configuration to the shade member and an interchangeable inner liner may be provided.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1977Date of Patent: October 10, 1978Inventor: Mortimer M. Patent number: 4111209Abstract: Apparatus and method for providing hypothermia or effecting hemostasis to prevent hemorrhaging in organs or regions of the human body and the like. In one application described herein, the apparatus provides hypothermia to the heart during, for example, cardio-pulmonary bypass. The apparatus comprises a unitary preferably disposable coolant fluid circuit, including a length of flexible tubing having a heat exchange portion and a flexible, inflatable bag through which a sterile coolant fluid passes. The inflatable bag is connected to the flexible tubing by a double lumen. The tubing is provided with appropriate fittings proximate to its juncture with the double lumen to allow introduction of coolant fluid. The heat exchanger portion of the coolant fluid circuit is located within a preferably disposable container which contains refrigeration means for reducing the temperature of the coolant fluid.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1977Date of Patent: September 5, 1978Assignee: Datascope CorporationInventors: Sidney Wolvek, Bruce L. Patent number: 4054478Abstract: A method of manufacturing a thermoelectric device comprising initially preparing thin coherent films of P and N type thermoelectric materials by evaporating the solvent from a suspension previously drawn over a surface, the suspension comprising the solvent, a binder and the thermoelectric material in powdered form. A coherent film of insulative material is similarly prepared. The coherent films are stacked in a hot press die with alternate P and N type thermoelectric films separated by the insulative film and subjected to heating and pressure during which the binders are volatilized so that the thermoelectric films are converted to solid, high density layers and the insulative films each become a cohesive layer which binds to the adjacent thermoelectric layers to form a monolithic laminate. Contacts electrically connecting the P and N type thermoelectric layers may be provided prior or subsequent to the pressing step.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1976Date of Patent: October 18, 1977Assignee: Nu-Pak CorporationInventor: Robert C. Patent number: 4042018Abstract: Packaging systems for gas to gas counter-flow heat exchangers include locating individual heat exchanger modules adjacent to each other within a housing and providing a plurality of plenum chambers partially defined by suitably arranged baffles. The arrangements disclosed provide heat exchanger assemblies wherein the length of fluid flow path is significantly larger than at least one of the width dimensions of the flow stream thus minimizing entrance effects which tend to reduce the efficiency of the system.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1975Date of Patent: August 16, 1977Assignee: Des Champs Laboratories IncorporatedInventor: William Henry Zebuhr

Patent number: 3973718Abstract: A heat exchanger core includes a communicating set of metallic tubular elements, preferably aluminum, for carrying a primary fluid and a matrix of rounded metallic elements. The matrix elements are metallurgically bonded to one another and to the tubular elements. This arrangement of the matrix creates a multiplicity of communicating interstices which serve as passageways for the secondary fluid. The surface of the rounded elements constitutes the major area exposed to the secondary fluid flow. The rounded elements are metallurgically bonded by preferably a brazing technique. Relatively small particles of low melting temperature alloy, preferably aluminum, are dispersed throughout a stacked arrangement of relatively larger rounded elements, preferably of aluminum of a higher melting temperature. In one brazing method, an assembly of tubes, large rounded elements and smaller particles are brazed in a vacuum brazing oven. At the temperature of the oven, the smaller particles melt but the larger elements do not.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1974Date of Patent: August 10, 1976Assignee: Deschamps Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Nicholas H.
