Abstract: A simple holder is provided for holding a desired small article to an article of clothing. The holder is provided by the operational combination of a base member of a selected appearance, the base including a magnetizable area thereon. Holding means are secured to the base member for holding a desired small article thereto or therein. The holder is in cooperative combination with a permanent magnet. The base member may be secured to the front of an article of clothing by means of magnetic attraction between the magnetizable area adjacent the front of the clothing and the permanent magnet at a corresponding area at the back of the article of clothing. The selected small article can then be held by the holding means.
Abstract: The invention concerns a tilt-compensating indicator device for a compass (100) comprising a magnetic field detection device (20) which is mounted on a conical bearing (7) and is accommodated in a housing (100') of the compass (100). The indicator device (30) is rotatably mounted on the magnetic field detection device (20) by means of a receiving bearing (8,10) whose bearing shaft (8), accommodated in bearing elements (10) of the magnetic field detection device (20), extends substantially at right-angles to the north-south direction of the magnetic field detection device (20).
Abstract: A ground-engaging shoe assembly is provided for a power mower in which a mower blade is rotated in an upright shaft. The ground-engaging shoe includes a hub support assembly which is secured to the mower housing of the power mower. A ground-engaging shoe assembly is secured to a bearing housing which is located at the lower end of a hollow rotatable shaft, the ground-engaging shoe assembly including a bearing within which the hollow shaft rotates, whereby the ground-engaging shoe assembly is stationary. The bearing housing is adapted selectively to accept different ground-engaging shoes. An adjusting bolt extends through the hollow shaft and is secured at its lower end to the bearing housing An upper tower housing is adapted to transfer loading weight through the adjusting bolt to the bearings. The adjusting bolt is vertically-adjustably-secured at its upper end with respect to the upper tower housing by means of a locking-type nut.
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for die cutting both sides of paperboard sheets. The apparatus includes a die comprising a plurality of cutting knives projecting from a base, the cutting knives being set into a preselected pattern of grooves within the base. The die further includes a die blade mounted in the base, as well as an anvil, mounted in the base and oriented substantially parallel to the die blade. Securing elements secure at least one of the die blade and the anvil to the base. Manually-actuatable members are provided for adjusting the securing elements for selectively raising or lowering at least one of the selected die blade and the anvil. A back-up plate is provided to which the base is secured.
Abstract: A novel system, e.g., an audio cassette player, is provided herein. The system simultaneously provides mechanical motion driven by a rotatable drive shaft which is rotating at a continuous predetermined desired speed, and for generating a voltage output by an electrical generator having a rotor which is rotating at a continuous predetermined desired speed, the rotatable drive shaft being non-concentric with, being laterally-spaced-apart from, and being parallel to the rotor. The system includes a prime mover which comprises a windable driving spring, which, in turn, includes an interconnecting drive train for separately drivably connecting the driving spring both to the rotatable drive shaft and to the rotor of the electrical generator. The interconnecting drive train comprising a gear train, which has a driving section which is connected to the driving spring means and which is common for driving both the rotatable drive shaft and the rotor at the electrical generator.
Abstract: A novel low voltage lighting system is provided herein, by the following novel combination of elements. The first element is a brick, the brick having a bore therethrough, the bore having an upper countersunk enlargement. The second element is a lighting fixture installed in the brick. The lighting fixture includes a base, the base including an upper circular platform surrounded by a perimetrical wall which is capped by a base-component of a mating snap-ring assembly. A central well depends from the circular platform, the well being enclosed by a generally-cylindrical boss. The central well communicates with a depending, hollow, rectangular parallelepiped member which is provided with a pair of longitudinally-extending openings for the passage of a pair of electrical wires. The depending, hollow, rectangular parallelepiped member is fitted with a standard wiring harness for insertion of a low voltage light bulb thereinto.
Abstract: A braking system for an automotive vehicle is provided which comprises, in combination, a wheel having a specifically-defined wheel rim for mounting a tire thereon, and a specifically-defined disc carrying the wheel rim for mounting the wheel upon a wheel support of the automotive vehicle. A cylindrical support is secured to the wheel. Radially-inwardly facing arcuate brake lining structures are secured to the cylindrical support. Brake shoes are mounted upon a non-rotatable part of the automotive vehicle in spaced positions around the rotational axis of the wheel support. A pressurized-fluid operating system of a specifically-defined structure is provided for moving the brake shoes in a braking action radially-outwardly from inactive positions towards, and frictionally-engaging, the brake lining structures, and for returning the brake shoes radially-inwardly to the inactive positions upon termination of said braking action.
Abstract: A chair for invalids and patients is provided herein. Such chair includes front and rear legs and a seat connecting the legs. The seat includes seating portion having a front edge located at a height above the knees of a typical adult and a back rest. Preferably, although not essentially, the legs rise above the seat, and arm rests are secured to the top portions of the legs above the seat with one arm rest on either side of the seat. The chair further includes a foot rest having a pivotal connection by an over-center mechanism at its rear edge to the lower portions of the front legs of the chair. The foot rest is pivotally secured in a particularly-recited manner, so that it is pivotable from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position. The foot rest, when in its in vertical stowed position lies within the confines of the legs of the chair, and when in its horizontal position extends forwardly of the chair.
Abstract: A novel sheet transfer stabilizer is provided for transferring a fibrous wet sheet from a press section to a dryer section of a paper-making machine by way of a felt. The sheet transfer stabilizer includes a composite Venturi box which is disposed between a felt roll of the press section and a first dryer. The Venturi box includes three side-by-side Venturis, an inlet Venturi, an outlet Venturi, and a main Venturi. Such Venturi boxes are used to create and maintain a vacuum in the felt/web system.
Abstract: A novel sheet transfer stabilizer is provided for transferring a fibrous wet sheet from a press section to a dryer section of a paper-making machine by way of a felt, or the like. The sheet transfer stabilizer includes a composite Venturi box which is disposed between a felt roll of the press section and a first dryer. The Venturi box includes three side-by-side Venturis, namely an inlet Venturi, an outlet Venturi, and a main Venturi, such Venturi boxes are used to create and maintain a vacuum in the felt/web system.
Abstract: A transversely-mounted grass cutter mower combination with a vehicle is provided which is adapted to be activated to move laterally to the right or to the left with respect to its mounting to the vehicle and/or to move vertically up or down with respect to its mounting the vehicle. The vehicle is a motor-driven vehicle having front wheels and rear wheels and a longitudinally-extending frame bed therebetween. A transversely-mounted powered grass-cutting mower, having a mower housing and powered grass cutting blades which is mounted to the frame bed by means of a suspended mounting system. The suspended mounting system includes a cooperative linkage which is secured between the longitudinally-extending frame bed of the motor-driven vehicle and the mower housing. A first powered operator is provided for moving the mower housing, in cooperation with the constraints provided by the cooperative linkage, through an infinite number of vertical locations between an upper limit and a lower limit.

Abstract: A novel electrocutting/coagulating instrument is provided herein. The instrument includes a handle having a forward end and a rear end. A suction tube is secured to the handle and is adapted to be connected only to a source of suction. The suction tube has a forward end and a rear end, the rear end being connected to the handle, and also being connected to the source of suction, and the forward end of the tube projecting beyond the forward end of the handle. A manually-controllable, electrically-actuated cutting/coagulating blade electrode is operatively connected to the handle, a portion of the cutting/coagulating blade electrode projecting beyond the forward end of the handle. A lead is securely connected to the blade electrode and is adapted to be connected from a source of electricity to the cutting/coagulating blade electrode.
Abstract: A novel automatic tree waterer is provided herein. It is adapted to be connected to a stand which holds a tree, e.g. a Christmas tree, in an upright position. The waterer includes a hollow support base and a hollow two-piece body section. The lower body section is assembled to the support base by means of a slide coupled lip/coupling support lip to be airtight and watertight. The upper body section is assembled to the lower body section by means of male/female threads to be airtight and watertight. The upper body includes a male threaded upper neck. A hat including an inner well with interlock threads is assembled to the upper body by means of the male/female threads to be airtight and watertight. A water outlet is provided from the interior of the body section. A flow controller unit is connected to the water outlet to close the water outlet to enable filling the interior of the hollow two-piece section with water.
Abstract: A method is provided for treating a sewage sludge-derived oil having a particular chemical composition, to reduce its odor. The method includes the first step of distilling the sewage sludge-derived oil to 150.degree. C. to remove water and volatile organic components, and then the essential step of circulating a gas consisting essentially of carbon dioxide gas therethrough.

Abstract: A suction tube to be mounted on electro-cutting/coagulation apparatus and/or cutting/coagulation-suction apparatus and/or laser generated cutting/coagulation-suction apparatus for general and specific surgery usage. A cleaning mechanism is provided for removal of ash from blades of electro-cutting/coagulation apparatus, and/or laser generated cutting/coagulation apparatus. A flushing system is also included for removal of blood or debris from the suction tube.
Abstract: A process is provided herein for coating a preformed, porous base material comprising a mineral fibrous or particle material or an organic fibrous or particle material or mixtures thereof to provide a novel preformed base material. The process comprises applying at atmospheric pressure a coating of a vulcanizable elastomeric material in unvulcanized form to a surface of such preformed, porous base material. The elastomeric material is permanently adhered to the preformed porous base material by a hot press, hot vulcanization step. In this way the elastomeric material is substantially simultaneously both adhered securely to one outer surface of the base material and is penetrated and impregnated below and into the same surface of the base material to be within the porous structure of the base material, and is vulcanized therein in situ by the joint action of a pressure of about 50 to about 500 Newton/cm.sup.2 at a temperature of about 120.degree. C. to about 300.degree. C.
Abstract: An improvement is provided in a disposable lighter having a fuel receptacle, a pyrophoric sparking wheel lighting mechanism mounted on the top edge thereof, and a finger-actuated fuel-control valve adjacent the sparking wheel. The improvement is provided by a windshield of similar cross-section to that of the receptacle and slidably retained between upper and lower stop members on the receptacle, the windshield comprising two solid side walls, a solid back wall, an open top and an open front wall the solid side walls having a thumb-access cut-away portion, the open front wall having a cigarette-access opening above the cut-away portion of the side walls, the windshield being between about 50% and about 100% and preferably about 100% of the height of the receptacle. This provides a screen to enable the lighter to be lit even in strong winds.
Abstract: Weather-resistant boards possessed of surface elasticity and pliancy by means of a permanently elastic, covering layer (for instance, particle boards, facade covering boards, and wall elements) and mouldings (for instance, containers, vessels, prefabricated building elements, and roof elements) of resin-impregnated wood fibres or other organic materials and inorganic materials, either as fibres or as particle materials are provided herein. Such weather resistant board comprises three layers. The first layer is an impregnatable, porous, base material which is constituted by a mixture of a curable resin with an organic base material, namely a lignocellulose fibrous or particle material, and an inorganic mineral fibrous material. The second layer is an outside elastic covering layer constituted by a vulcanized, weather-resistant resilient synthetic elastomeric material vulcanized thereon in situ at a temperature of at least 175.degree. C.
