Patent number: 7844905Abstract: A system and a method for information display that is well adapted to marketing in the current, rapidly changing digital transmission communications setting is described. The invention provides a viewer interface that can be embodied in an inexpensive portable information storage media, such as a compact disc, a mini-compact disc, a business card cut CD, a flash memory card, a DVD, or other such portable information storage devices. When the viewer interface is used with a communications link, such as an interne connection, the interface establishes a connection to an interface management program located on a remote computer. The interface management system enables the user who provided the portable information storage media for the viewer to control the content of the information displayed to the viewer, and change that content without modifying or storing any information on the viewer's display device or changing the content of the viewer interface.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2006Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Inventor: Michael Bateman

Patent number: 6690830Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for encoding images, more particularly to an encoding unit in conjunction with a library of pictorial entities and image qualifiers. The method and apparatus provide encoding an image by using a code factor table in conjunction with a set of element codes. The resulting image code allows the set pictorial elements of an image and their associated image qualifiers to be represented by a compact code uniquely representing a given configuration of pictorial elements. The use of the resulting image code facilitates the transmission and storage of images requiring only the code to be sent or stored. The invention further provides a computer readable medium comprising a program element that direct a computer to implement the encoding process.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1999Date of Patent: February 10, 2004Assignee: I.Q. Patent number: 6151774Abstract: A system and method for conveying wireline tools between a wellsite and a logging truck and for assembling the tools at the wellsite is disclosed. The conveying system includes a taut line extending between a wellsite and the logging truck, a mechanism for anchoring the taut line at the wellsite, and a mechanism for tensioning the taut line. A trolley on the taut line is attachable to a logging tool and operable to convey the tool between the truck and the wellsite. Preferably, the logging tools are stored in a tool bed adjacent the rear axle of the logging truck so that they can be easily displaced and connected to the trolley for conveyance along the taut line to the wellsite. At the wellsite, the operators use a remote winch control for controlling the rotation of the logging cable winch and the position of any tools at the wellsite connected to the logging cable. A spanner is provided which permits the operator to connect two tools together (or disassemble) using one hand.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1997Date of Patent: November 28, 2000Assignee: Schlumberger Oilfield Services, Inc.Inventor: Raymond V. Patent number: 5976799Abstract: Increased expression of the p16 gene occurs early in the development of ovarian carcinomas. This invention detects change ovarian epithelium by measuring increases in p16 gene expression by a quantitative method that compares the levels of p16 mRNA and a control mRNA (.beta.-tubulin) in a subject to be tested against the levels of substrates in normal subjects. A biological sample such as peritoneal fluid containing mRNA derived from a subject's ovarian epithelium is taken from the subject to be tested. The mRNA is isolated from the sample, and complementary cDNA is prepared from the isolated mRNA. Using primers to p16 target sequences and to .beta.-tubulin control sequences, the cDNA is amplified. The resultant amplification products are quantitated as to p16 and .beta.-tubulin gene sequences. The level p16 gene expression is assessed relative to expression levels in normal subjects.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the University of ArkansasInventors: Timothy J. Patent number: 5759708Abstract: A method is provided for producing a thin film product, comprising a first step in which an underlying substrate of a first material is provided. The underlying substrate includes a plurality of unmodified sites. The underlying substrate is then chemically modified wherein a plurality of organic functional groups are attached to a plurality of the unmodified sites. The arrangement and type of the functional group used can be selected for the purpose of controlling particular properties of the second material deposited. A thin film layer of at least one second material is then deposited onto the chemically modified underlying substrate.
