  • Patent number: 6522228
Abstract: A circuit breaker includes a housing; separable contacts mounted in the housing; a latchable operating mechanism including a latch lever which when released opens the separable contacts; and an overcurrent assembly responsive to selected conditions of current flowing through the separable contacts for releasing the latch lever to trip the separable contacts open. The circuit breaker also includes an arc fault indicator; an arc fault trip actuator which when energized moves a first indicator latch for actuating the arc fault indicator and a second latch for releasing the latch lever to trip the separable contacts open; and an arc fault current assembly responsive to selected arc fault conditions of current flowing through the separable contacts for energizing the arc fault trip actuator to actuate the arc fault indicator and to trip the separable contacts open.

  • Patent number: 6490150
Abstract: A circuit breaker panel includes a panel having a surface; an electrically conductive grounding member, such as a grounding strip, adapted for electrical connection to ground; a circuit breaker having an electrically conductive surface; and one or more fasteners fastening the circuit breaker to the panel. The electrically conductive grounding member is sandwiched between the surface of the panel and the electrically conductive surface of the circuit breaker. The electrically conductive circuit breaker surface electrically engages the electrically conductive grounding member.

  • Patent number: 6307453
Abstract: The toggle mechanism of a circuit breaker is connected at one end to the pivoted contact arm and at the other end to a pivoted latch lever which is engaged to latch the toggle mechanism by a latch member pivoted for movement in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the toggle mechanism. The latch member serves as an armature for a trip motor energized by a trip circuit responsive to an arc fault and/or a ground fault to unlatch the toggle mechanism and trip the circuit breaker open. The latch member is also tripped by a helical bimetal responsive to persistent overcurrents and coupled to the latch member through an ambient compensator bimetal cantilevered from the latch member. A flexible shunt connected between the helical bimetal and contact arm passes through an extension of the magnetic circuit of the trip motor to generate a magnetic field of sufficient strength to trip the latch member instantaneously in response to a short circuit.

  • Patent number: 6240478
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for addressing a plurality of interconnected electronic modules. One of the modules is initialized as a master module which sets its own internal address and broadcasts address information to each of the other modules during an addressing process. The other modules receive address information from the master module and set their internal addresses accordingly, such that each module has a unique internal address. The other modules also may broadcast information which may be received by the master module.

  • Patent number: 5484327
Abstract: A method and apparatus for grinding a workpiece which is supported for rotation about a first axis with a first grinding wheel supported for rotation about a second axis and a second grinding wheel supported for rotation about a third axis. The first grinding wheel engages with the workpiece in a location which is substantially diametrically opposed to the location at which the second grinding wheel engages with the workpiece. Control means are disclosed for controlling the radial grinding force imparted to the workpiece by the first and second grinding wheels so that the force imparted to the workpiece from the first grinding wheel is substantially equal and opposed to the force imparted to the workpiece by the second grinding wheel to prevent distortion of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4183563
Abstract: A panic-proof lockset includes a deadbolt and a spring latch. An interior escutcheon supports a knob for operating the spring latch and a second knob for operating the deadbolt. A crank is coupled to the second knob and a slide member is adapted to turn the crank either selectively clockwise or counterclockwise to a position generally corresponding to the open position of the deadbolt. The slide is in tension when acting on the crank to turn the crank to a position generally corresponding to the open position of the deadbolt. A cam means is provided for moving the slide member in response to rotary motion of the knob whereby the deadbolt and the spring latch are simultaneously retracted by turning the knob. This construction enables a user to rotate one knob to simultaneously retract the deadbolt and the spring latch, thereby providing easy exit in a panic situation.

  • Patent number: 4115897
Abstract: A door closer for moving a door connected thereto from an open position to a closed position includes a housing, a chamber located within the housing, a piston movable in the chamber in response to movement of the door and a linkage assembly connected to the door for transmitting door movement from the door to the piston. A fluid chamber is disposed on one side of the piston and the piston moves through the fluid chamber upon closing movement of the door. Valve means is provided for controlling the rate of fluid flow from the fluid chamber as the piston moves therethrough to thereby control the rate of movement of the piston and the damping force acting on the door. A spring is disposed in the chamber and acts on the piston to provide a force to move the door toward the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4086798
Abstract: A loading mechanism for placing blanks to be split in a pulley splitting machine having at least one work station in which a blank is to be located. The loading mechanism has a magazine adapted to hold a plurality of blanks to be split. A linearly moveable slide is mounted on the pulley splitting machine for receiving a blank to be split. The slide has locating means disposed thereon for locating the blank on the slide in a predetermined position. A pivoting loading arm is mounted near the work station. The arm has gripping means to individually remove blanks from said magazine and place them on the locating means.
