  • Patent number: 4565192
Abstract: A device is disclosed for cutting a portion of a patella during knee surgery in which the articular surface of the patella along with a portion of the bone of the patella is cut away for implantation of a prosthesis. The device disclosed provides a fixed clamping member and an adjustable clamping member which clamp the patella and space from the patella a support surface for an oscillating saw used in the cutting of the patella. The precise plane of cut is provided by the use of a placement aid which is used according to the method of the present invention. The placement aid positions the support surface a precise depth below the articular surface of the patella during the clamping procedure, which clamping procedure also horizontally levels the support surface and the device so that all cuts through the patella are made in a perfectly horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 4551714
Abstract: A remote control device for off-the-shelf stereo audio systems in which an R.F. receiver unit controls the functions of the stereo system through electric motors mounted upon the control shafts of the stereo receiver. The motor controlling the tuning function of the stereo receiver is switched off whenever a stereo station is reached during tuning by a photosensor attached over the stereo indicator light of the stereo receiver. Continuous operation of the motor controlling the tuning of the stereo receiver to bypass undesired stereo stations is achieved by overriding the signal from the photosensor. Each of the R.F. receiver unit and transmitter unit has a plurality of plug-in modules with each module having its own tuned circuit and dip switch, so that each module can be used for a separate control function. A digital controlled oscillator in the transmitter unit excites each transmitter module.

  • Patent number: 4503591
Abstract: A clothing ring is provided for storing articles of clothing, such as socks, during laundering, so that the articles are not separated during laundering. The ring has a loop with a sharply pointed end for insertion through the articles of clothing, and another end having a locking member. The pointed end of the loop slides into a U-shaped channel in the locking member for locking the two ends together, to thus prevent separation of the articles of clothing. The ring may also be used as a key ring.

  • Patent number: 4476973
Abstract: The apparatus for sequentially advancing a plurality of articles across a feed table to a work station includes an input station for receiving articles deposited on the feed table, a reciprocating pusher assembly adapted to engage and advance the articles across the feed table from the input station when driven in a forward direction and to disengage from the article when driven in reverse, and an air cylinder-piston drive mechanism for the pusher assembly whereby the length of stroke of the piston and the pusher assembly is selectively variable. The pusher assembly includes a plurality of removable pushers each of which is relocatable at varying intervals along the longitudinal axis of the pusher assembly, and a mechanism for laterally adjusting the position of the pusher assembly to maintain an in-line feed mode regardless of the width of the articles being advanced along the feed table.

  • Patent number: 4442587
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved stripping machine for removing insulation from flat cable wherein, the cable has a plurality of conductors positioned in substantially the same plane. The instant machine includes a frame having a pair of arms movably and pivotally mounted on the frame. A grinding wheel is rotatably mounted on each of the arms. One of the grinding wheels has a larger diameter than the other grinding wheel. An adjustment device is connected to the arms for simultaneously positioning the grinding wheels relative to the conductors. The arms with the grinding wheels are movable in a direction transverse to a length of flat cable to remove insulation from the cable. The wheels move in opposite directions at the positions where the wheels engage opposite sides of the cable. Drive rollers are mounted on the frame for pulling the cable along the length of the cable and along the length of the table mounted on the frame.

  • Patent number: 4291422
Abstract: A device for raising and lowering the lid and seat members of a toilet comprises a pair of independent hydraulic systems each operatively associated with one of the toilet members. Each hydraulic system includes a manually operable control valve, a hydraulic cylinder having a water inlet/outlet port disposed at each of its distal ends and means operatively connecting the piston rod of the cylinder to the associated toilet member. Either of the toilet members may be raised by operating the associated hydraulic system such that the control valve directs water to one of the cylinder ports while receiving exhaust water from the other port causing the piston rod to move in a first direction whereby the toilet member is pivotally moved in a counter clockwise direction. The toilet member is lowered by operating the control valve for reversing the cylinder ports receiving and exhausting water causing the piston rod to move in a second direction whereby the toilet member is pivotally moved in a clockwise direction.

  • Patent number: 4191556
Abstract: Iron ore is efficiently reduced by entraining particles of the ore in a flow of heated reducing gas and passing the mixture through a constriction-expansion nozzle. Metallic iron is collected from the nozzle exhaust and conveyed to a suitable storage area. Passage of the iron ore and reducing gas composition through the nozzle results in the entrained ore being brought into intimate contact with the reducing gas, which contact promotes rapid reaction rates within the nozzle. The nozzle may comprise a Venturi constriction for producing up to sonic exhausts or, when enhanced reaction rates are desired, a converging-diverging nozzle for producing supersonic exhausts accompanied by associated shock wave patterns.
