  • Patent number: 8254512
Abstract: A receiving method and apparatus for increasing coherent integration length while receiving a positioning signal from transmitters such as GPS satellites. In order to compensate for frequency drifts that may occur in the positioning signal, a hypothesis is made as to the frequency drift, which is inserted into the receiving algorithm. Advantageously, the length of coherent integration can be increased at the expense of reducing the length of incoherent integration while keeping the total integration length the same, the net effect of which is an increase in signal detection sensitivity. The frequency drift hypothesis has any appropriate waveform; for example, approximately linear or exponential.

  • Patent number: 8195097
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate broadcasting an interference level and adjusting transmit power corresponding to a reverse link in accordance with the interference level. An interference indication can be broadcasted on a broadcast channel in a wireless communication system. In response to the broadcast, mobile devices can adjust transmit power on the reverse link based upon considerations of the interference level. Further, mobile devices can evaluate an initial set point of a transmit power level during periods of inactivity.

  • Patent number: 8189515
Abstract: A method provides for operating a wireless communication system having packet data capabilities, and includes steps of: (a) sending a message from a mobile station to a network on a same physical channel that is used to transmit packet data, the message specifying individual ones of packet system information (PSI) messages that are required for reception by the mobile station; and (b) in response to receiving the message, transmitting only the specified individual ones of the PSI messages from the network to the mobile station over the same physical channel used to transmit the packet data.

  • Patent number: 8111736
Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving a signal from transmitters such as GPS satellites, for fixing the location of the receiver. Each of the transmitted signals includes a unique periodically-repeating sequence. A received signal is stored by the receiver for at least two repetitions of the periodically-repeating sequence. FFT operations are performed, and the resulting data frequency samples are pruned responsive to a hypothesized residual frequency, a procedure which significantly reduces the total number of subsequent calculations and therefore significantly reduces processing time. A correlation series is determined from the pruned samples and reference frequency samples corresponding to a hypothesized transmitter. If a match is found in the examination of this series, a code phase offset is determined; if not the process is repeated with another hypothesized residual frequency. Multiple correlation series similarly obtained may also be incoherently combined prior to this examination.

  • Patent number: 7990911
Abstract: A method and apparatus to determine whether a transmission was successfully received in a multiple access communication system is claimed. First and second encoded data packets are received and decoded. The first and second data packets are then re-encoded, and correlated to determine whether the first and second re-encoded data packets are the same. If there is a high degree of correlation, an indicator of acknowledgement is transmitted to indicate that there is a high degree of correlation between the first and second re-encoded data packets. If there is a low degree of correlation, a determination is made that the previously transmitted indicator of acknowledgement was correctly received.

  • Patent number: 7962826
Abstract: A closed-loop reverse-link power control algorithm for a frequency hopping orthogonal frequency division multiple access (FH-OFDMA) system is described. The power control algorithm adjusts the user's transmit power based on effective carrier-to-interference (C/I) and Received-Power-Over-Thermal (RpOT) measurements. The algorithm is inherently stable and is effective for FH-OFDMA systems with retransmissions.
