Patent number: 5687464Abstract: An apparatus that separates a golf club head and a golf club shaft to which it is adhesively secured. A hosel push member is positioned in abutting relation to the hosel of the club head. An externally threaded guide tube is slideably inserted over the hand grip of a golf club shaft and is positioned in trailing relation to the hosel push member. A drive member in the form of a coil spring or a rigid tube is ensleeved around the guide tube, and a drive member push member screw threadedly engages the threads on the guide tube so that advancement of the drive member push member applies pressure upon the drive member. Heating the hosel after application of pressure onto the drive member weakens the adhesive and results in separation of the club head from the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1995Date of Patent: November 18, 1997Inventor: Perry C. Patent number: 5682364Abstract: A compact disk changer includes a magazine having an inner body and an outer body that are rotatable independently of one another about a common axis of rotation. The inner and outer bodies are slideably interconnected by a helical member so that relative rotation between the bodies in a first direction increases the axial spacing between them and relative rotation in a second direction decreases the axial spacing. This construction reduces the size of the changer and does not require precision tolerances between moving parts. A plurality of compact discs are stacked within the magazine, and each disk is supported by a disk holder. When the disk at the top or end of the sack is to be played, relative rotation between the inner and outer bodies creates an axially extending space adjacent the selected disk and a playing mechanism is inserted into that space.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1995Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignee: Shinwa Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hisashi Ogawa

Patent number: 5657597Abstract: A low cost building is made of modular parts in the absence of special tools. Light-in-weight wall blocks having a facade of conventional appearance include a thick, insulating mixture of a cementitious material, polystyrene, and organic fiber aggregates capable of retaining water. The blocks have interlocking top and bottom surfaces so that they are easily stacked to form walls. A floor is built by spanning foundation beams with floor trusses that have a key along their respective tops and by sliding modular floor panels between contiguous floor trusses, each floor panel having opposite edges that slidingly engage the keys of the floor trusses. A roof is made in a similar manner by sliding modular roof panels between contiguous roof trusses. Tensioning rods are extended from a top surface of the walls to the building foundation to compress the walls.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1995Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Environmental Building Technology, Ltd.Inventor: William E. Loftus

Patent number: 5619535Abstract: A digital frequency synthesizer employs a predetermined residue number system to generate phase angle information. The phase angle information is then converted from the predetermined residue number system into a weighted binary number. A part of the weighted binary phase angle information is used to address a read only memory that includes predetermined initial data points at each address. A predetermined iteration process that makes use of some or all of the weighted binary phase angle information that was not used to address the read only memory is then employed in an iterative process to generate final data points for the predetermined waveform. The initial data points are stored in the read only memory as weighted binary numbers and the iterative process employs weighted binary arithmetic. A second embodiment stores the initial data points in the read only memory as digits from a predetermined residue number system and the iterative process employs residue number system arithmetic.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1994Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Inventor: Cesar E. Alvarez, Jr.

Patent number: 5601433Abstract: An educational device for simulating the effects of earthquakes includes a table supported above a base by a plurality of coiled springs or other flexible and resilient members. A slot formed in the table coincident with a longitudinal axis of symmetry of the table accommodates a flywheel having a radially extending slot within which is mounted a weight member at any preselected location along the extent of the slot. A battery-operated variable speed motor strapped to the table has an output shaft to which the flywheel is coupled, and a control knob enables a user to vary the speed of rotation of the output shaft and therefore of the flywheel. The intensity of the vibration of the table is varied by moving the weight member along the extent of the radially extending slot. Alternative embodiments include a weight member having a fixed, immovable eccentric position and a balanced flywheel that is mounted eccentrically relative to the output shaft of the motor.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1994Date of Patent: February 11, 1997Inventor: Kenyon D. Potter

Patent number: 5595414Abstract: A portable platform has a first configuration where it may be transported safely over public highways and a second configuration where it is transformed into a display that attracts crowds of visitors at a fair or festival. The platform is elevated above a support surface by a conventional wheel and axle assembly, and is accessible when in its display mode by a stairway. A large structure positioned at one end of the platform is shaped like a beverage bottle, to be promoted and has a hollow interior to house equipment and workers. A door formed in the structure admits personnel, and a window enables the serving of the product being promoted to patrons attracted to the platform by the large structure. Safety rails and a tent-like covering complete the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1995Date of Patent: January 21, 1997Inventors: Nikolai A. Dulnig, Gernot M. Massner

Patent number: 5592826Abstract: An air conditioning system includes a self-regulating flow controller having no moving parts that provides a liquid seal between a purge vessel and the evaporator barrel of a chiller. Circulating refrigerant fluid from a primary air conditioner is preheated in a preheater by hot refrigerant from the chiller prior to its entry into the purge vessel, and the preheater provides a thermal load that enables operation of the purge vessel. The purge unit discharges into a regeneration cell that removes even more refrigerant from the vapors before they are vented to atmosphere. When the regeneration cell requires recharging, it is heated to a predetermined temperature and pressure to release adsorbed refrigerant from its adsorption media, and the released refrigerant is routed back to the purge vessel and hence through the regeneration cell again prior to discharge of substantially refrigerant-free contaminants into the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 1995Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Inventors: Chris Sagar, Mike Britt
