  • Patent number: 4885474
Abstract: An emergency lighting fixture, for plug-in installation in a wall connector mounted protruding from a fixed wall plate, has a back plate secured to its wall-engaging face. The back plate and the wall plate are provided with interfitting flanges and a pivoted latch secures the plates together in facing juxtaposed engagement. A mating multi-prong plug and socket connects A.C. line power from the wall connector to internal circuitry in the lighting fixture for lighting a lamp, for charging a rechargeable internal battery and for operating a transfer circuit to deliver battery power in the event of line power failure. The conductor from one terminal of the battery is connected to said circuitry by two prong-and-socket pairs, in the multi-prong plug and socket, which are connected by a permanent jumper conductor in the wall connector, affording battery isolation in the lighting fixture until its plug-in installation in the wall connector is completed.

  • Patent number: 4869382
Abstract: By providing a bottle with a plurality of sets of ribs formed about the outer surface thereof and providing a cooperating telescopically engageable decorative portion with a plurality of sets of fins extending from the inside surface thereof, a unique securement system is achieved for frictionally interengaging and securely mounting the decorative portion to the bottle portion, thereby attaining a unique desirable aesthetic effect. Preferably, each set of ribs on the bottle are arranged substantially vertically along each side edge thereof, with the plurality of sets of fins of the decorative portion being positioned for mating, overriding engagement therewith. In addition, each of said elongated fins of the decorative portion preferably extend the entire length of the zone created by the plurality of ribs in order to assure overriding, interlocking secure engagement between said ribs and said fins.

  • Patent number: 4869619
Abstract: A method for excavating a hole and an apparatus therefore are suitable for the operation of excavating a hole used for laying a lateral sewer or mounting pipe, which extends from a main sewer pipe toward the ground surface, on the main sewer pipe. The method comprises the step of rotating a rod about its axis in a space provided in the ground while advancing the rod in the direction of penetrating a wall member defining the space, and the step of utilizing the advanced rod as a guide while excavating a hole in the ground from the tip end of the rod toward the space. The apparatus embodying the method described above comprises a rod propelling machine disposed in a space provided in the ground for rotating a rod about its axis while advancing the rod and a excavating machine utilizing the advanced rod as a guide while excavating a hole in the ground from the tip end of the rod toward the space.

  • Patent number: 4868648
Abstract: A system for inspecting a pipeline in order to determine eccentricity thereof comprises the steps of directing a beam from one end of the pipeline to the other end, disposing a detecting means, which is provided with a light receiving body having a light receiving surface for receiving the beam and a television camera for taking a picture of the light receiving body, in the pipeline so as to be moved along the axis of the pipeline, processing an output signal of the television camera while maintaining the position of the light receiving body to have a predetermined relationship to the inner surface of the pipeline and determining whether or not the pipeline is eccentric on the basis of the result of said processing step.

  • Patent number: 4843797
Abstract: High speed dairy casing methods and apparatus assemble columns of filled containers arriving on two infeed conveyors, transfer one, two or more columns to an assembly ramp adjoining each conveyor, and then sweep the assembled columns from the conveyor and the ramp together across the ramp to an adjacent loading zone for casing, leaving the assembly ramp free for assembling succeeding columns while case loading is proceeding. Preferably two infeed conveyors deliver filled containers into two separate assembly zones with their ramps flanking a central loading zone, and a pusher with two extended positions propels each single column from its conveyor onto the assembly ramp, and then propels the final column with the assembled columns together across the ramp to the loading zone as the pusher advances to its remote extended position.

  • Patent number: 4843300
Abstract: An improved power supply capable of driving an external device at relatively high power levels for intermittent periods of time with the power supply driven by relatively low current input power which can vary widely in voltage. The power supply incorporates a step-up switching voltage converter module for increasing the input voltage to a higher value so as to charge an energy storage capacitor to an energy level sufficient to power the external device for said intermittent periods of time at relatively high current. The energy storage device voltage output is regulated by a step-down switching voltage converter module. Control signals sensing the voltage of the energy storage capacitor can be used to control energization and de-energization of the external device.

  • Patent number: 4837779
Abstract: A communication method and system for determining the transmission speed of a communicating remote unit with respect to a host communicator. The communication method uses a start of message header containing a known number of timing intervals, called ticks, with the header transmission in a logic one or a logic zero state. A start of message header is detected by the host communicator and its logic one state is sampled after a given period of time in order to determine its actual logic one duration. From this, the actual tick time is determined so as to be able to determine data "1" bits and data "0" bits from the remote unit by sampling the incoming data at precise intervals of time so as to properly determine the data bit states. A logic zero to logic one state transition at the start of each data bit is used to reset the communicator tick timer.

  • Patent number: 4824287
Abstract: In a septic system for handling household waste water, used vehicle tires are employed to form the septic tank and the leaching galleries. Vehicle tires sealed to one another and in combination with end caps provide a watertight and lighttight enclosure in the septic tank. An inlet conduit permits the influx of sewage into the enclosure while an outlet conduit allows egress of effluent from the enclosure via hydrostatic pressure. The drain field used with the system and also useful for other purpose has tires axially aligned forming an array with each tire defining an interior hollow chamber. A delivery conduit leading from the outlet conduit of the septic tank introduces effluent into the hollow chambers of the vehicle tires where it is allowed to seep therefrom into the surrounding earth through apertures in the walls of the tires. The tires in the drain field can be horizontally aligned or can be in a vertical stacking arrangement similar to the arrangement found in the septic tank.
