  • Patent number: 8303277
Abstract: A blending pump assembly for accurately maintaining the proper ratio of two fluid components. Flow of a first fluid is utilized to drive a fluid motor, which in turn drives a pumping mechanism to inject a proportional amount of a second fluid into the flow of the first fluid. The fluid motor and pump are sized so that a predetermined ratio between the two fluids is maintained regardless of changes in pressure and flow rate of such first fluid.

  • Patent number: 8304532
Abstract: A solution phase synthesis method for preparing an oligonucleotide, wherein at least some of the reagents are solid supported. The method suitable for large-scale synthesis comprises coupling a protected compound with a nucleotide derivative having a protection group in the presence of a solid supported activator to give an elongated oligonucleotide with a P(III)-internucleotide bond; optionally processing the elongated oligonucleotide by capping by reaction with a solid supported capping agent and/or by oxidizing or sulfurizing by reaction of the oligonucleotide with a solid supported oxidizing or sulfurization reagent; and removing the protection group. The coupling may include reacting a 3?-protected compound of formula: with a nucleotide derivative having a 5?-protection group, or reacting a 5?-protected compound of formula with a nucleotide derivative having a 3?-protection group.

  • Patent number: 8249900
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for terminating a pension plan through mutual annuitization. A mutual annuitization involves the formation of a new and dedicated mutual insurance company that issues group or individual annuity contracts to plan participants in a private pension plan. The plan sponsor would neither own any stock in the mutual insurance company, nor would it have voting or control rights or any right whatsoever to participate in the profits of the mutual insurance company. As a mutual insurance company, there are no shareholders as such. Instead mutuals have members, and it is the members who enjoy governance rights and participation rights in the company's profits, such as through policy dividend payments. In the mutual insurance company of the present invention, the pension plan participants are the mutual insurance company's sole members.

  • Patent number: 8219478
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for eliminating or transferring the non-economic risk of financial securities. The system and method serves to avoid non-economic losses in the first instance, and to counter the adverse capital impact of prior non-economic gap losses by providing capital relief consistent with a determined protected amount. A client makes a non-recourse loan to a provider. In return, the provider agrees to purchase a fixed income security (FIS) Portfolio from the client for an purchase price greater than the amount of the loan. If the aggregate principal payments (APP) of the FIS Portfolio exceed the purchase price, the parties engage in profit sharing of the APP over the purchase price. If the final market value of the FIS Portfolio is below the purchase price and above the loan amount, the losses are absorbed by the provider.

  • Patent number: 8162915
Abstract: A connector for packings containing medical liquids, particularly infusion, transfusion or enteral bags, comprises a connecting part (1) for accommodating a spike for drawing out the liquid and comprises a closure part (3) that closes the passage (2) inside the connecting part (1). The connecting part (1) has an elastically deformable pinching off part (4) provided in the form of a tubular section with a non-circular cross-section. A base part (5), which widens on both sides is adjoined to said pinching off part (4) and can be integrated in the packing. During manufacturing, the packing is filled with liquid via the connecting part. After filling, the pinching off part is pressed together whereby preventing liquid from escaping. Afterwards, the closure part is placed onto the connecting part. The manufacturing of the packing is simplified by virtue of the fact that an additional tube for connecting the connector and packing is rendered unnecessary.

  • Patent number: 8155985
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system and method for eliminating or transferring the non-economic risk of financial securities. The system and method serves to avoid non-economic losses in the first instance, and to counter the adverse capital impact of prior non-economic gap losses by providing capital relief consistent with a determined protected amount. A second party provides to a first party a policy covering potential losses in value for a fixed income securities (FIS) Portfolio, particularly losses between an upper attachment value and a lower exit value. The second party provides capital to the first party as a policy security in the event that the aggregate principle payments (APP) of the FIS Portfolio are less than the attachment value and the first party makes a claim under the policy.
