  • Patent number: 7517914
Abstract: According to an aspect of the present invention, polymeric release regions are provided, which contain one or more partially biodegradable progenitor polymers and which control the release of one or more therapeutic agents disposed beneath or within the same. The progenitor polymers within the release regions are composed of a plurality of biostable polymer portions (which may be the same or different from one another) linked via one or more biodegradable linkages. Upon implantation or insertion into the body, the linkages degrade, cleaving the progenitor polymers into two or more biostable polymers of reduced molecular weight (relative to the molecular weight of the progenitor polymers). As a consequence of this reduction in molecular weight, the release characteristics of the release regions change over time.

  • Patent number: 7500175
Abstract: Media content is arranged into a number of sets of video, audio, or data samples, referred to as clips, which are rendered by a media content manager. A playlist, which is handled by a presentation manager, specifies the time-ordered sequence of clips playable to a user. Certain actions are taken during media content play to minimize glitches perceived by the user, including determining a time offset value that is used to decide how far in advance of a scheduled play time to begin pre-rendering an upcoming clip. The time offset value is determined using one or more static characteristics associated with a media source for the upcoming clip, such as the location of the media source, codec parameters, or encryption complexity, and one or more dynamic characteristics of the presentation system, such as retrieval states, (including play speeds) of media clips, processing loads, or clock frequencies.

Abstract: A method for producing a S-nitrosylated species is provided. The method comprises: (a) providing a deoxygenated, alkaline aqueous solution comprising a thiol and a nitrite-bearing species; (b) acidifying the solution by adding acid to the solution while concurrently mixing the solution (e.g., by vigorously stirring the solution) to produce the S-nitrosylated species; and (c) isolating the S-nitrosylated species. The nitrite-bearing species can be, for example, an inorganic nitrite, such as an alkali metal nitrite, or an organic nitrite, such as an alkyl nitrite (e.g., ethyl nitrite, amyl nitrite, isobutyl nitrite or t-butyl nitrite). The thiol is preferably a thiol-containing polysaccharide, a thiol-containing lipoprotein, a thiol-containing amino acid or a thiol-containing protein, and more preferably a thiol-containing polysaccharide such as thiolated cyclodextrin.
