Abstract: N,N'-Disubstituted benzamidine compounds such as N,N'-dimethyl-3,4-dichlorobenzamidine, and their pharmaceutically-acceptable salts are prepared by the reaction of a substituted phenylacetonitrile with an alkylamine and alkylammonium salt or alternatively, by reaction of the acetonitrile or corresponding N-alkylphenylacetamide with a trialkyloxonium fluoroborate followed by reaction with a primary alkylamine. The compounds have pharmacological activity as antidepressants and antianxiety or calming agents.
Abstract: Disintegration of tablets is improved by the incorporation therein of a plurality of small tubules. The tubules can be prepared by subdivision of hollow fibers such as cellulose or cellulose acetate hollow fibers having inside diameters on the order of 50-300 microns into segments 100-1000 microns in length. Tablets and methods for their preparation are disclosed.
Abstract: A method of alleviating symptoms of inflammation in a mammal suffering from an inflammatory condition which comprises the administration to such mammal of a pharmaceutically effective amount of a 1-aryl-3-(2-hydroxyethyl)thiourea derivative.
Abstract: An improved reagent system for determining calcium by the orthocresolphthalein complexone color reaction. The reagent utilizes an alkaline buffer containing an aminoloweralkanol providing a pH of about 10.2 - 10.5. A method for using the reagent is also described. The composition is stable for extended periods.

Abstract: Disclosed are various phenyl -thiourea, -carbothioamide and -carbonothioamide derivatives which are useful in alleviating symptoms and conditions of inflammation.
Abstract: Substituted phenylthioamidine compounds such as 2-(4-chlorophenylthio)acetamidine; 2-(4-chlorophenylthio)-acetamidoxime; and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are prepared by the reaction of a substituted phenylthioacetonitrile with hydroxylamine hydrochloride or with methanol followed by ammonium chloride. The compounds have antimicrobial activity and also inhibit ADP-induced aggregation of blood platelets.

Abstract: Quaternary ammonium compounds such as [2-(4-amino-2,6-dibromophenoxy)ethyl[dimethyl (allyl) ammonium bromide are prepared by the reaction of a tertiary amine such as 3,5-dibromo-.beta.-dimethylamino-p-phenetidine with a substituted organic compound such as allyl bromide. The quaternary ammonium compounds are useful in alleviating or inhibiting cardiac arrhythmias when the quaternary ammonium compounds, or compositions comprising the same are administered to animals.
