  • Patent number: 8232705
Abstract: Ultrasound transducers and methods of making ultrasound transducers with improved thermal characteristics are provided. An ultrasound transducer can include: a backing, a piezoelectric element attached to the backing, a first matching layer attached to the piezoelectric element, and a second matching layer attached to the first matching layer. The first matching layer can comprise metal and can have a thermal conductivity of about greater than 30 W/mK. The second matching layer can have a thermal conductivity of about 0.5-300 W/mK. The first matching layer can have an acoustic impedance of about 10-20 MRayl, and the second matching layer can have a lower acoustic impedance. The first matching layer can be thicker than the second matching layer. The ultrasound transducer can include a lens and a matching layer disposed between the piezoelectric element and the lens can be configured to conduct heat from the piezoelectric element to the backing.

  • Patent number: 8234358
Abstract: A system is disclosed that allows an entity outside of a private network to initiate communication with another entity inside the private network. A first entity inside the private network maintains a persistent connection with a second entity outside the private network, with a port identification associated with the first entity's persistent connection. A third entity outside the private network obtains the port identification and initiates communication with the first entity by sending a message to the first entity using the port identification. The first and third entities then exchange communications outside the persistent connection. In an alternate implementation, the third entity uses the port identification to send the first entity a request for establishing a connection. The request is forwarded to the first entity through the persistent connection. The first entity responds by establishing a connection with the third entity outside the persistent connection.

  • Patent number: 8226470
Abstract: A method of dynamically linking abstracted hardware devices, which are used in association with gaming machines, to gaming software is disclosed. The game machine has a central processing unit (“CPU”), a resource manager, driver pools, and a communication link that connect a plurality of intelligent Input/Output controller boards (“IOCB”) to hardware devices interfaced to the game. The resource manager's functional blocks are: a resource manager control task, a plurality of Input/output (“I/O”) communication drivers to connect to the IOCBs, a low level and high level driver manager, a low level and high level driver pool, and a plurality of resource repositories that interface to the gaming software. The resource manager starts an I/O communication driver to scan for the primary IOCB on the I/O memory bus, Universal Serial Bus, or Firewire. Once the primary IOCB is found, the resource control task will load more I/O communication drivers for any secondary IOCBs.

  • Patent number: 8229210
Abstract: A mobile device comprising a camera and color detection software stored in memory of the mobile device, wherein the color detection application analyzes and displays component colors in a captured image and compares component colors in two such captured images. The color detection application displays component colors in a specific format such as red, green and blue and displays percentage of these colors in each of the compared images. The color detection also provides textual and audio feedbacks of the extent of match between colors of the two images. The two captured images that are to be compared are displayed in split windows. When the captured images are multicolored, the color detection application provides an arrow on these images to identify a specific location and compares the component colors at these locations. Also, an independent electronic device analyzes and displays component colors in a captured image and compares component colors in two such captured images.

  • Patent number: 8221217
Abstract: A gaming system comprising a display area and a player symbol selector for selecting the player symbols from a plurality of player symbols. The player symbol selector comprises a plurality of reels and each reel has a plurality of player symbols. The player symbol selector is arranged so that selected player symbols are displayed at an array of display positions when the reels are stationary. A display position selector enables a player to select, prior to stopping of the reels, groups of display positions. An award allocator allocates an award associated with a winning combination of the player symbols when a winning combination of the player symbols is displayed along a win line. The player symbol selector is arranged so that each one of different player symbols of each reel has the same probability to be displayed at any one of the display positions associated with that reel.

  • Patent number: 8223468
Abstract: A power conditioning circuit for conditioning power supplied by a power source at a nominal frequency over conductors in a polyphase system includes first and second phase conductors. First and second inductors are connected in series between the first and second phase conductors and first and second phase output lines, wherein all of the power supplied by the power source to the first and second phase output lines flows through the first and second inductors. An inductance of each of the first and second inductors increases when power at frequencies greater than the nominal frequency flows through the first and second phase conductors, thereby blocking power at frequencies greater than the nominal frequency from reaching the first and second phase output lines.

  • Patent number: 8224054
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method for identifying stool particles in virtual dissection data for a colon. A shape classification may be determined for a segmented colon by three-dimensional filtering of a prone data set and a supine data set. The shape classification may be mapped onto a prone virtual dissection image and a supine virtual dissection image. The prone data set and the supine data set may be registered using one-dimensional registration to determine a registration. Shapes may be localized based on the shape classification and the registration for the prone virtual dissection and the supine virtual dissection. A distance metric may be applied to the localized shapes to identify stool particles. The identified stool particles may be suppressed. A prone virtual dissected image and a supine virtual dissected image may be displayed having the stool particles suppressed.

  • Patent number: 8225225
Abstract: Detail-in-context techniques are described. In an implementation, an original image is distorted to produce a distorted region for a selected object at a first position in an original image displayed on a display screen. The distorted region magnifies at least a portion of the object. A signal is received to drag the object and the distorted region from the first position to a second position. A signal is received to drop the object at the second position. The distorted region is removed from the original image after the object is dropped at the second position.
