  • Patent number: 5467548
Abstract: A barrier member adapted for easy mounting on and dismounting from a pair of conical pylon road members comprises an elongated barrier body, usually of thin sheet metal, providing a vertical barrier surface with a pylon-engaging member at each end. Each pylon-engaging member has an aperture of such diameter that it can be mounted on the pylon upper end with the end protruding through the aperture so that the barrier member is retained against transverse movement and is maintained at a predetermined distance above the road surface. Preferably the pylon-engaging member is formed from round cross section rod to provide wedging tangential retaining contact between itself and the softer plastics material of the pylon outer wall upon pressing the member downward on the pylon. The barrier body has a wider portion extending vertically and a narrower portion extending at an angle to the wider portion to increase the transverse rigidity, the pylon-engaging members being attached at their junction.

  • Patent number: 5439158
Abstract: An improved wave soldering apparatus that protects the molten solder and the components being soldered from exposure to ambient air while the solder is in a liquid condition. At the soldering station, which is enclosed in a controlled atmosphere chamber, all the liquid solder, pumps and other elements exposed to liquid solder are enclosed within the chamber. This eliminates the formation of dross which interferes with the soldering process and also with the operation of the solder pumps. The inlet and outlet paths from the chamber, through which the components pass, are extended both to exclude ambient air and to permit the components to cool in a controlled atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 5417040
Abstract: A one piece flat bottomed gusseted bag is provided which may be bottom filled and flat sealed. This structure permits a resealable bag to be filled and sealed without opening the resealable seal. The bag is formed with a revertive pocket at the bottom extending transversely from one side seam of the bag to the other which may be formed before or after sealing. The shape and attachment of the pocket is such as to produce a flat gusseted bottom on the bag when the bag is filled and the pocket forced outwards.

  • Patent number: 5382054
Abstract: A new book holder comprises two book receiving members and a connecting member which connects the two book receiving members together so that they can move toward and away from one another between two positions to hold respectively a small width book and a maximum width book. Each receiving member has a post member on its upper surface carrying a respective page engaging member pivoted thereon and spring biased to be movable between a position in which it contacts the surface of the respective book receiving member, and one in which it can contact the upper surface of the uppermost page of a book resting on the book receiving member. Preferably each page engaging member is of U-shape and is of springy wire material, so that it can flex to assist in urging the page engaging member into contact with the holder surface. The parts of the page engaging members in the posts may comprise torsion springs as part of the spring means.

  • Patent number: 5335843
Abstract: A soldering process and apparatus for soldering difficult to reach junctions. Small containers, just large enough to accommodate the junctions are filled to overflowing from a pot of liquid solder. Once filled the flow of solder is terminated and the junction dipped into the container. The meniscus on the liquid solder in the container establishes a consistent level enabling a mechanized process to dip the junctions the same depth each time. Between dips the container is refilled. The size of the container limits the exposure of other adjacent devices to the heat of the solder and also provides a limited quantity of solder to the junction thus providing a consistent soldered connection.

  • Patent number: 5141727
Abstract: A flue gas treatment system is provided which extracts most of the heat from the flue gas before scrubbing with large volumes of sea water. The scrubber liquids are sufficiently dilute that they can be safely returned to deep sea location while the scrubbed gases when mixed with sufficient volumes of ambient air can be directly returned to atmosphere without distribution by a large stack.

  • Patent number: 5127164
Abstract: A machine is provided for dispensing ice marking tape in a regular manner suitably moistened so that it will adhere to the ice surface. The pattern described by the applicator is determined by suitable means such as a radius arm which is connected to the center of any circle which is to be defined or suitable linear guides. The machine provides a simple method of directly applying markings to ice without multiple step processes being required, such as marking and painting.

  • Patent number: 4897999
Abstract: In a multi-stage steam power plant a portion of the bleed steam is passed through a heat exchanger in the combustion air input duct to preheat the combustion air. The condenser output water is also passed through a heat exchanger in the combustion air input duct and then, before returning to the boiler feed water line, is passed through a heat exchanger in the flue and then a further heat exchanger in the air input duct. In this way heat from the condensate is retained in the system and heat from the flue gas is returned to the intake combustion air.
