Patent number: 8315670Abstract: In an antenna interface system of a wireless network base station, each sector of the base station is outfitted with two dual-band duplexer assemblies, each of which includes a tower-mounted antenna unit, an RF filter unit (e.g., triplexer), and an RF feed or antenna cable that interconnects the two. One antenna unit transmits in one communication band, and the other transmits in a second band. Both units receive signals over the two bands. The RF filter units pass transmit data on to the cables and filter receive data of both bands for separate output. The antenna units and filter units act as cable-end interfaces for multiplexing and de-multiplexing the transmit and receive data on and off the cables. Thus, each cable carries transmit data for one communication band and receive data for both bands, for a total of two cables per sector for dual-band applications.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2008Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventor: John G. Patent number: 8307882Abstract: In the casting of a single crystal component, such as a turbine blade, by the lost wax casting technique, one or more ceramic pieces are positioned on a wax pattern at locations corresponding to parts of the cast component where relatively quick solidification of molten metal may occur during casting. A coating is subsequently formed around the wax pattern to define a mould, whereupon the wax is removed to leave the one or more ceramic pieces within the formed mould.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2010Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLCInventor: Paul Andrew Creasey

Patent number: 8306258Abstract: A system and method for assessing a condition of property for insurance purposes includes a sensor for acquiring a spectral image. In a preferred embodiment, the spectral image is post-processed to generate at least one spectral radiance plot, the plot used as input to a radiative transfer computer model. The output of the model establishes a spectral signature for the property. Over a period of time, spectral signatures can be compared to generate a spectral difference, the difference attributed to a change in the condition of the property, such as a fire or flood. In response to the change, an insurance company initiates an insurance-related action such as processing a claim.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2011Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Hartford Fire Insurance CompanyInventor: Patrick D. Patent number: 8302415Abstract: A method for controlling a refrigeration system with a variable compressor capacity, and at least two refrigeration entities, e.g. display cases, includes controlling suction pressure by either permitting or preventing the flow of refrigerant into the evaporators of one or more refrigeration entities. The method also includes controlling compressor capacity based on a signal derived from one or more properties of the one or more refrigeration entities, said signal reflecting a possible difference between the current compressor capacity and a current refrigeration demand of the refrigeration system. The method reduces wear on compressors by avoiding switching them ON or OFF to the largest extent possible, and also prevents problems relating to conflicting control strategies due to control parameters, e.g. suction pressure, being determined based on two or more controllable parts, e.g. compressors and flow of refrigerant into refrigeration entities.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2006Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Danfoss A/SInventors: Claus Thybo, Ole Ploug

Patent number: 8299931Abstract: An inexpensive and simple-to-operate ice safety device is provided for deployment in a body of water. Once deployed, the ice safety device can be activated to check whether ice has formed to a predetermined thickness around the ice safety device. If ice has not formed to the predetermined thickness, the ice safety device indicates an unsafe condition. The ice safety device can be moored to a fixed location.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2009Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Inventor: Zoe Eggleston
