Abstract: A method of manufacturing an article by diffusion bonding, the method comprising the steps of assembling first and second component parts having a joint therebetween; sealing the joint against infiltration by solid particulate material, without causing phase change of the component parts; and applying heat and isostatic pressure via a solid particulate material to form a consolidated joint by diffusion bonding.
Abstract: Bar cutter head (20) for receiving multiple bar cutters of a first bar cutter set, the bar cutter head (20) having n receptacle openings (25.1-25.6) for receiving n bar cutters of the first bar cutter set, which are all situated along a first concentric cutter head nominal circle having a first cutter head nominal radius (r1). A first spiral-toothed bevel gear (11) can be milled in the single-indexing method in this configuration. The bar cutter head (20) additionally has m receptacle openings (26.1 -26.6) for receiving m bar cutters of a second bar cutter set, which are all situated along a second concentric cutter head nominal circle having a second cutter head nominal radius (r2). A second spiral-toothed bevel gear can be milled in the configuration having the m bar cutters. It is thus a universally-usable cutter head (20).
Abstract: In an antenna interface system of a wireless network base station, each sector of the base station is outfitted with two dual-band duplexer assemblies, each of which includes a tower-mounted antenna unit, an RF filter unit (e.g., triplexer), and an RF feed or antenna cable that interconnects the two. One antenna unit transmits in one communication band, and the other transmits in a second band. Both units receive signals over the two bands. The RF filter units pass transmit data on to the cables and filter receive data of both bands for separate output. The antenna units and filter units act as cable-end interfaces for multiplexing and de-multiplexing the transmit and receive data on and off the cables. Thus, each cable carries transmit data for one communication band and receive data for both bands, for a total of two cables per sector for dual-band applications.

Abstract: In the casting of a single crystal component, such as a turbine blade, by the lost wax casting technique, one or more ceramic pieces are positioned on a wax pattern at locations corresponding to parts of the cast component where relatively quick solidification of molten metal may occur during casting. A coating is subsequently formed around the wax pattern to define a mould, whereupon the wax is removed to leave the one or more ceramic pieces within the formed mould.
Abstract: A frequency converter for driving a motor, includes a circuit board, having at least one first heat-generating element mounted thereon; a heat sink, connected to the at least one first heat-generating element; a fan, facing the heat sink; and a bracket, for positioning the at least one heat-generating element relative to the heat sink and the circuit board. The frequency converter includes a separating member for separating at least one portion of at least one second heat-generating element from the circuit board to prevent the cooling air guided to the at least one second heat-generating element from flowing to the circuit board. The frequency converter includes an airflow guiding member for guiding the cooling air from the fan to the heat sink and the at least one second heat-generating element and a flow guiding gate dispensing more airflow to the region corresponding to the at least one first heat-generating element.

Abstract: A system and method for assessing a condition of property for insurance purposes includes a sensor for acquiring a spectral image. In a preferred embodiment, the spectral image is post-processed to generate at least one spectral radiance plot, the plot used as input to a radiative transfer computer model. The output of the model establishes a spectral signature for the property. Over a period of time, spectral signatures can be compared to generate a spectral difference, the difference attributed to a change in the condition of the property, such as a fire or flood. In response to the change, an insurance company initiates an insurance-related action such as processing a claim.
Abstract: A method for controlling a refrigeration system with a variable compressor capacity, and at least two refrigeration entities, e.g. display cases, includes controlling suction pressure by either permitting or preventing the flow of refrigerant into the evaporators of one or more refrigeration entities. The method also includes controlling compressor capacity based on a signal derived from one or more properties of the one or more refrigeration entities, said signal reflecting a possible difference between the current compressor capacity and a current refrigeration demand of the refrigeration system. The method reduces wear on compressors by avoiding switching them ON or OFF to the largest extent possible, and also prevents problems relating to conflicting control strategies due to control parameters, e.g. suction pressure, being determined based on two or more controllable parts, e.g. compressors and flow of refrigerant into refrigeration entities.
Abstract: Monofilament sutures are disclosed, which are formed of complaint, segmented, polyaxial, absorbable copolyesters. The sutures are capable of retaining at least 50 percent of their initial breaking strength after 6 weeks following placement in animal or human tissues.

Abstract: An inexpensive and simple-to-operate ice safety device is provided for deployment in a body of water. Once deployed, the ice safety device can be activated to check whether ice has formed to a predetermined thickness around the ice safety device. If ice has not formed to the predetermined thickness, the ice safety device indicates an unsafe condition. The ice safety device can be moored to a fixed location.
Abstract: A radio frequency circuit structure for transmitting radio signals includes a lower guide portion having a plurality of photocurable layers deposited on a substrate and an upper guide portion interfacing with the lower guide portion to define a guiding geometry. The upper guide portion may also include a plurality of photocurable layers deposited on a second substrate. A method for fabricating the radio frequency circuit structure includes depositing the plurality of photocurable layers on the substrate. A portion of each photocurable layer of the plurality of photocurable layers is exposed to ultraviolet light to form a latent image. The plurality of photocurable layers is developed to remove the portions not exposed to ultraviolet light to form a guide portion. The guide portion may be metalized and closed to form a guiding geometry. A lower guide portion may be closed by an upper guide portion formed in substantially the same manner as the lower guide portion.
Abstract: An adjustable stair riser includes a body portion made of a flexible material. An upper connecting portion is disposed adjacent to an upper end of the body portion. A lower connecting portion is disposed adjacent to a lower end of the body portion. A front surface of the body portion is concavely shaped between the upper and lower ends so as to create slack for moving the upper and lower ends toward or away from each other to accommodate spacing between adjacent treads of a stairway during installation. The concavely shaped front surface of the body portion additionally provides an obstruction free path of foot travel.
Abstract: A golf club shaft is provided in which the flexural rigidity of the distal end portion can be improved with no change in flexural rigidity on the proximal end while the dispersion in the values of the flexural rigidity in the circumferential direction can be reduced without the use of a distal-end reinforcing layer that causes discontinuous points in the lengthwise direction in flexural rigidity.
Abstract: A composite article includes a composite member, a flexible member and at least one shape memory material member. The composite member has longitudinally extending fibers in a matrix material. The at least one shape memory material member extends substantially parallel to the composite member and the flexible member is positioned between the composite member and the at least one shape memory material member to bond the at least one shape memory material member to the composite member. The composite article is particularly suitable for use as a tab for an exhaust nozzle of a turbofan gas turbine engine.
