  • Patent number: 7964534
Abstract: The invention provides a method for identifying a ligand that binds to a macromolecular target. The methods involve (a) attaching an antenna moiety to a first ligand, wherein the ligand binds specifically to a macromolecular target; (b) providing a sample comprising the macromolecular target, the first ligand and a candidate second ligand under conditions wherein the first ligand and the macromolecular target form a bound complex; (c) detecting a subset of magnetization transfer signals between the antenna moiety of the first ligand and the second candidate ligand, wherein the signals are obtained from an isotope edited NOESY spectrum of the sample; thereby determining that the two ligands are proximal in a bound complex, and identifying a second ligand that binds to the macromolecular target.

  • Patent number: 7766380
Abstract: An airbag is expanded upward on the side of a passenger from a door part. A cover body which covers the airbag is formed by overlaying an outer part made of a hard resin to an inner part made of a soft resin. A supporting piece part is protruded from the cabin external side of the inner part. A to-be-ripped part is formed on the supporting piece part. On expansion of the airbag, the to-be-ripped part is ripped, thereby allowing the door part to move rotationally on the cabin internal side. Therefore, the airbag equipped at the door part can be smoothly expanded along the side face part of the cabin. Thus, an airbag apparatus is improved in appearance.

  • Patent number: 7760963
Abstract: A method employing a statistic means to test whether or not luminance signals around a point of interest are distributed according to the same probability distribution with respect to luminance signals of respective pixels constituting the image; determining a range where the same probability distribution can be regarded as being satisfied, estimating the true luminance value of the point of interest by using the luminance data of the range. Especially when the image signals are faint to such an extent that the intensity of the luminance signal is based on the Poisson distribution, it is effective to perform a smoothing processing for each of the probability distributions of the signals and the noises by a test of a uniformity of the Poisson distribution, enabling a clear and denoised image to be obtained.

  • Patent number: 7717018
Abstract: A machining unit that is supported on a machine tool and machines a workpiece by a revolving tool with a main spindle section being driven and rotated includes an eccentric rotational section, a tool holder, a tool revolution-radius changing mechanism, and a cutting-edge-orientation correcting mechanism. The eccentric rotational section is disposed on the main spindle section, and is rotatable about an eccentric axis that is located eccentrically at any distance in a radial direction of the main spindle section from a rotation center of the main spindle section. The tool holder is disposed on the eccentric rotational section, and supports the tool. The tool revolution-radius changing mechanism moves the tool in the radial direction, and changes the radius of the revolution of the tool by rotating the eccentric rotational section about the eccentric axis.

  • Patent number: 7283166
Abstract: Automatic control method and system for EBCCD sensor. The invention relates to a novel protective method of operating the Electron Bombarded Charge Coupled Device (EBCCD), a recently developed, high sensitivity, low noise, and expensive focal plane array sensor. In particular, the invention provides a method for operation that automatically controls the EBCCD gain at a very high rate. This allows i) for sensor damage protection from too much light, ii) for extension of sensor service life by reducing gain in periods of non-use, and iii) for automatic gain adjustment to rapidly compensate for variations in scene brightness.

  • Patent number: 6960185
Abstract: An implantable access device including a port for receiving and guiding a filament, such as a needle, into an entry region of the device. The port includes a plate for receiving a filament, and at least two walls extending upwardly from the plate. The walls are shaped and positioned to guide the filament moving between opposing first and second ends of the plate through an entry region defined between the walls at the second end of the plate. Preferably, a greatest distance between the walls is at least five times greater than a height of the walls, so that the port provides a large filament strike area, yet has a small overall height. In addition, a greatest distance between the ends of the plate is also preferably at least five times greater than the height of the walls, to further increase the filament strike area without increasing height.

  • Patent number: 6819477
Abstract: An optical transmission path in a Raman gain module (1) for transmitting signal light input from an input terminal (1a) and Raman-amplifying the signal light by pumping light supplied from pumping light source units (21, 22) is formed by connecting in series two Raman amplification optical fibers (11, 12) having different wavelength dispersion values. According to this arrangement, wavelength dispersion in the amplifier module (1) can be controlled using, e.g., the combination of the wavelength dispersion values of the Raman amplification optical fibers (11, 12). Hence, accumulation of dispersion into signal light and signal light transmission in an almost zero dispersion state are prevented, and degradation in signal light transmission quality due to the nonlinear optical effect is suppressed.

  • Patent number: 6796043
Abstract: A target system for determining the location of a position on a vehicle comprises a target body, one or more target elements, a trigger, and a point definer. The target elements are disposed on the target body and are detectable by a position determination system. The trigger is positioned on the target body and is remote from the position determination system. The trigger operates the position determination system by selectively changing the detection of one or more of the target elements by the position determination system. The point definer extends from the target body, and the point definer includes a point its a distal end. The point is capable of being located adjacent the position on the vehicle and is at a known location from the target body. The position determination system determines a location of the target body after detecting the target elements disposed on the target body. Methods of using the target system are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6765432
Abstract: In a semiconductor device, a time-counting circuit counting a prescribed time in transition to a low-power operation mode includes a CR-type time constant circuit and a complementary NOR gate. The time-counting circuit causes electric charges to be released from a capacitive element through a resistance element when a prescribed signal attains L level. As release of the electric charges continues, the NOR gate operates, a power control signal is output at L level, and the semiconductor device makes a transition to the low-power operation mode. Thus, since the time-counting circuit does not include a multi-stage delay circuit and a latch circuit for time-count, power consumption is low, and circuit area is small. Consequently, the semiconductor device capable of transition to the low-power operation mode can simultaneously implement lower power consumption and smaller circuit area.

  • Patent number: 6763594
Abstract: A cordless vehicle wheel alignment sensor head with interchangeable batteries includes easy to replace rechargeable batteries, thus eliminating the need for a service call to replace the batteries and allows the operator to swap a nearly depleted battery set with a fully or partially charged battery set. The sensor head includes a battery compartment door which slides upwards without pivoting about or detaching from the sensor head, and allows the batteries to pop out and be replaced. The battery compartment door also includes at least one battery engaging protrusion which presses against the battery at a non-contacting end of the rechargeable battery when the battery compartment door is closed. Accordingly, with the battery compartment door closed, the battery is tightly held in place and pressed into a pair of retractable pins that result in electrically coupling the battery to the sensor circuitry.
