  • Patent number: 7601687
Abstract: Insulin resistance is a central feature of type II diabetes and other diseases, and may affect every tissue of the body, including the pancreatic beta cell. Insulin signaling is mediated by a complex network of diverging and converging pathways, with alternative proteins and isoforms at almost every step in the process. We have previously shown that insulin activates the transcription of its own gene by signaling through Insulin Receptor A type (Ex11?), PI3 kinase and p70 s6 kinase. When studying the mechanisms underlying the glucose-stimulated activation of the glucokinase gene in pancreatic beta cells, we now demonstrate that also here secreted insulin is a key-factor. In contrast to the insulin gene, transcription of the glucokinase gene is promoted by signaling via Insulin Receptor B type (Ex11+) and protein kinase B (c-Akt).

  • Patent number: 7600358
Abstract: A method for packaging a product arranged in a tray is provided. An upper film located in a distance above the product is clamped along an edge surrounding the tray and is deformed in a direction extending away from the product. Subsequently, evacuating of the space surrounding the product is performed, then a raising of the tray towards the upper film and finally a sealing of the film and of the edge of the tray. In this way, the seam of the upper film and the edge of the tray is attained to be free from creases such that a long-living and good looking package is produced. Additionally, a packaging machine for performing the method is provided.

  • Patent number: 7600462
Abstract: A gimbaled weapon system (GWS) implements methods for identifying and tracking a target. In one aspect, the sighting system of the GWS moves independently in elevation from the weapon cradle and tracks a target while the weapon cradle and attached weapon are maintained in a non-hostile position, such as a stowed or vertical position. In another aspect, the method uses a system of networked sensors in communication with an observation unit for the GWS. The sighting system is elevated using a second elevation drive to acquire a target based on signals received the system of networked sensors. The network sensors provide coordinates of probable targets, which can trigger automatic tracking of the target or an alarm to notify the operator of a probable target.

  • Patent number: 7603486
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting the presence and the type of network devices connected to a management device via transmission lines. The apparatus may include a pull-up resistor, a pull-down resistor, a filter, and a presence detector, the resistors superimposing a DC or low-frequency voltage on the transmission line. The impact, if any, of the DC voltage one communications equipment and circuitry can be reduced by a coupling that isolates the DC voltage. Similarly, the filter prevents transmitted data signals from interfering with the DC voltage level. The method and apparatus function regardless of whether the network device is functional or powered on, and different values of pull-up or pull-down resistors can be used to indicate the type of device that terminates the transmission line.

  • Patent number: 7603303
Abstract: A margin requirement is computed while trading. The margin requirement may be calculated while trading because the preferred system takes into account working orders to generate the margin requirement. The on the fly possibility allows the preferred system to provide pre-trade risk calculations, but can also be used to provide post-trade calculations. A generic spread number and the maximum number of outright positions are determined. Using the spread positions and the maximum number of outright positions, a spread margin and an outright margin are calculated, which when summed provide a total margin requirement. Limits based in part on the total margin requirement may be imposed on one or more traders.

  • Patent number: 7598340
Abstract: A hybridoma (termed “UIC2 hybridoma”, ATCC Accession No. HB11027) producing monoclonal antibodies (termed “UIC2 mAb”) directed against an extracellular domain of a cell surface P-glycoprotein antigen associated with multidrug resistance in primate cells was produced by fusing a human myeloma cell with a spleen cell derived from a BALB/c mouse immunized with syngeneic 3T3 fibroblasts previously transfected with the isolated human mdr1 cDNA. UIC2 mAb, thus produced, as well as fragments and recombinant derivatives thereof, may be used to detect and isolate multidrug resistant primate cells and human mdr1 gene products, and to reverse multidrug resistance in primate cells, including cells of multidrug resistant human tumors.

  • Patent number: 7599867
Abstract: A system and method are provided for chart pattern recognition and analysis. In one embodiment, a graphical interface is provided to enable a trader to select a portion of a chart to be used in the chart pattern analysis. The pattern of the selected portion of the chart could then be used to find one or more similar chart patterns in a user-defined timeframe, such as any future time period or a time period in the past. When a reoccurring chart pattern is found in any future time period, an alert signal can be generated to alert a user of a possibility of the chart pattern reoccurrence. Alternatively, chart pattern matches can be found in a time period in the past, and a set of studies can be applied to the found matches to generate a set of reoccurring indicator values. The reoccurring indicator values can be used in combination with the chart pattern to detect any similar chart patterns in the future.

  • Patent number: 7599880
Abstract: A method and system are described for providing a trader with the ability to quickly configure the quoting side of a trading tool, without experiencing the normal delays associated with conventional methods of quoting. In spread trading, an automated spread trading tool may automatically work an order to buy or sell a tradeable object. A user may configure the trading tool to work an order in a certain tradeable object first. The system allows the user to essentially on-the-fly configure the trading tool to work a second order in another tradeable object, and in response to the change, the system can take specific actions such as deleting the order in the first tradeable object and automatically entering the second order in the other tradeable object. This allows the trader to trade quickly and efficiently.
