Abstract: A thermally-enhanced, insulated component for use with an HVAC system includes a component having an outer surface usable with an HVAC system, the component being substantially filled with an insulating material. A thin, dimensionally stable layer of thermal barrier material having opposed surfaces is disposed inside the component at a predetermined distance from the outer surface of the component. The thermal barrier layer is in contact with the insulating material on at least one surface of the opposed surfaces. When the outer surface of the component is subjected to an elevated temperature, the thermal barrier layer maintains a sufficient temperature differential between the surface of the opposed surfaces of the thermal barrier layer facing opposite the outer surface and the surface of the opposed surfaces of the thermal barrier layer facing the outer surface so that the insulating material produces a reduced rate of smoke.

Abstract: A capacity control algorithm for a multiple compressor liquid chiller system is provided wherein the speed and number of compressors in operation are controlled in order to obtain a leaving liquid temperature setpoint. In response to an increase in the load in the chiller system, the algorithm determines if a compressor should be started and adjusts the operating speed of all operating compressors when an additional compressor is started. In response to a decrease in the load in the chiller system with multiple compressors operating, the algorithm determines if a compressor should be de-energized and adjusts the operating speed of all remaining operating compressors when a compressor is de-energized.
Abstract: A solar cell array has at least one solar cell including a photovoltaic structure having a sun-facing front face and a back face, and having an active region, and an isotype heterojunction diode connected in electrical parallel with the active region of the photovoltaic structure.
Abstract: An engine device for an oxyhydrogen vehicle includes an oxyhydrogen generator for electrolytically converting an electrolyte into oxyhydrogen gas, a fuel tank for storing combustible fuel, a first pipe unit connected to the oxyhydrogen generator, a second pipe unit connected to the fuel tank, and an engine unit. The engine unit includes a cylinder block, an intake manifold, and fuel injectors. The intake manifold is connected to the cylinder block, is provided with passages, and is further connected to the first pipe unit such that the oxyhydrogen gas generated by the oxyhydrogen generator is fed into the passages. The fuel injectors are connected to the intake manifold, are further connected to the second pipe unit, and serve to inject the combustible fuel in the fuel tank into the passages.
Abstract: A system and method using a touch probe device for eddy current inspection. The touch probe provides a simple approach for coming within close contact of the specimen while maintaining a normal angle and pressure at the right positions. The use of the touch probe further reduces the total time for the eddy current inspection. The touch probe aligns the probe to a specimen to be inspected, for the purpose of reducing measurement errors and increasing productivity.
Abstract: A device for sharpening crayons, wax pencils, and the like is provided. This device includes: a multi-blade removable and replaceable crayon sharpening cartridge; an electric motor mechanically coupled to the blade cartridge for axially rotating the blade cartridge around a crayon that has been inserted into the blade cartridge; a base for supporting the electric motor; a contoured receptacle positionable on the base beneath the blade cartridge for capturing crayon debris; and a contoured exterior housing for enclosing the electric motor and the blade cartridge.
Abstract: A metallic article made of metallic constituent elements is fabricated from a mixture of nonmetallic precursor compounds of the metallic constituent elements. The mixture of nonmetallic precursor compounds is chemically reduced to produce an initial metallic material, without melting the initial metallic material. The initial metallic material is consolidated to produce a consolidated metallic article, without melting the initial metallic material and without melting the consolidated metallic article.

Abstract: A method for repairing a gas turbine stationary flowpath shroud. The method comprises providing a superalloy gas turbine stationary flowpath shroud that has previously been in service. The method further comprises preparing a restoration coating for application to the flowpath surface of the shroud by the steps of providing a precursor mixture comprising a higher-melting-point alloy component, a lower-melting-point alloy component, and a fugitive binder. A perform is prepared from the components and pre-sintered into a mildly curved form. The partially densified perform is applied to the flowpath surface and thermally bonded to the flowpath surface, forming a restoration coating.

Abstract: A method of processing a timing synchronization signal includes selecting an initial sequence of complex numbers and modifying the initial sequence based upon a metric applied to the autocorrelation function to enhance its autocorrelation properties within a predetermined window about the main autocorrelation peak determined by the timing uncertainty of the system. This two-step optimization process produces a new complex sequence used for timing acquisition. It is applied by transmitting the sequence through a medium and correlating the received signal against a known error-free sequence. Only correlation within the window of the bounded timing uncertainty is performed, thus saving valuable computational cycles. Also, because the sidelobe levels of the autocorrelated function are significantly lower within the timing uncertainty window than the sidelobe levels of a non-optimized autocorrelation function of a signal, the likelihood of finding a peak for the wrong timing signal is greatly reduced.
Abstract: A bale tote implement for a skid steer vehicle including an elongated body having a plurality of openings. Each opening is configured to receive one or more fasteners and at least one of the openings is configured to receive a fastener to retain the implement in position on a bucket of the skid steer vehicle. The implement also includes a plurality of substantially hollow gathering teeth having a first end and a second end. The first end is substantially flattened and the second end includes a support dowel inserted therein. Slots are configured to receive the second end of the gathering teeth. U-shaped fasteners are positioned adjacent the second end and through at least two of the openings in the elongated body. The U-shaped fasteners apply a retention force on the second end and the support dowel to retain the teeth in position within the slots.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a power transformer and VSD mounted on the chiller equipment. The transformer is preferably a liquid-filled transformer rated for medium/high voltage input, and at least two output low voltages, one voltage for the VSD and other power equipment, and another voltage for the control panel and control equipment. The placement of the power transformer on the chiller eliminates the need to allocate additional floor space for an auxiliary transformer or medium/high voltage VSD. The transformer also includes cooling means in the form of a heat exchanger in which the liquid is cooled by circulating condenser water, chilled water or refrigerant from the chiller system. The cooling means may also be connected to cooling coils connected to the VSD.
Abstract: A method and system is provided for gathering and packetizing data from networked building automation equipment, and for transmitting data packets as instant messages to remotely located users. An instant messaging (IM) server-based system is provided to facilitate communication between networked building equipment and a remotely located service contractor. When a registered router is operated, the router establishes a continuous pass-through communication link with the IM server and with building equipment connected to the router. The router automatically polls connected building equipment for alarms, faults and system failures, and also receives, processes, and responds to user requests for specific data from particular items of building equipment. Data gathered by the router is packetized, and the packets are then encapsulated into an instant message that is transmitted to the IM server.
