Patent number: 4132925Abstract: Direct current ballasting and starting circuitry for efficiently operating a gaseous discharge lamp on direct current. A series-pass switching transistor in one of a pair of input lines alternately switches between on and off states to periodically supply pulses of energy from a source of direct current voltage. During steady-state operation, current sensing circuitry limits the maximum current conductable by the transistor such that the output of the circuitry is current regulated. A filter, in series with the transistor, smoothes the pulses of energy delivered by the transistor into direct current with a comparatively small alternating current component. Starting circuitry in series connection between the filter and an output terminal, senses the nonionized state of the lamp and provides a voltage pulse of sufficient magnitude and duration to initiate ionization in the lamp, but permits uninterfered passage of current through the filter to the output.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1976Date of Patent: January 2, 1979Assignee: Forest Electric CompanyInventors: Joel J. Schmutzer, George D. Elkerton

Patent number: 4130292Abstract: Apparatus for propelling a skate board with air currents. A base plate is releasably secured to the skate board by adjustable straps and has a swivel bearing member attached to the top surface of the plate. Receptacles in the swivel member receive a mast and control shafts and a bearing in the swivel member permits an upper portion of the member to be generally rotatable about an axis of the mast, without any appreciable tilting movement. The control shafts control the angular position of the mast and sail with respect to the base plate and skate board. A substantially transparent sail is affixed at various points along the mast and control handles for receiving the forces of the air currents to propel the skate board.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1977Date of Patent: December 19, 1978Inventor: A. Patent number: 4123335Abstract: Method and device for accurately measuring polarization voltage of a measured electrode with a reference electrode in the form of an electrode in direct contact with the ionic conductor and separated in spacing from said measured electrode. The error of ionic conductor IR drop between measured and reference electrodes is corrected by a voltage of opposed polarity connected in series with said reference electrode, made proportional to the DC current polarizing said measured electrode, and adjusted in value to produce a characteristic 0.020 volt separation between transition points of line slope change in the measured initial range of the polarization current-potential relationship. Calibrating circuitry enables an X-Y recorder to accurately plot the current potential relationship.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1977Date of Patent: October 31, 1978Inventor: Rogert G. Seyl

Patent number: 4108931Abstract: A system of making molds for investment casting in which the patterns are formed from, and the sprue form is coated with, polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight in the range of from approximately 1,300 to approximately 1,600, or its equivalent and having admixed therein as a filler powdered graphite, in which the graphite comprises in the range of from about 35 per cent to 60 per cent by weight of the pattern forming material. The patterns are molded to the desired shape, and to include a gate section, and they are adhered to the sprue form in spaced apart relation by fluidizing the gate section end to make a welded connection with the sprue form coating. The mold is then formed about the patterns that are adhered to the sprue form, leaving the pour cup end of the sprue form exposed, to which heat is subsequently applied to sufficiently fluidize the sprue form coating so that the sprue form can be drawn out of the mold thereby leaving the sprue opening.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1976Date of Patent: August 22, 1978Inventor: Ralph Ogden

Patent number: 4086589Abstract: This invention is an electronic siren producing a siren sound having a sound wave produced on a slowly rising and falling frequency. A major cycle is pulsed at intervals with variations in frequency. The variations in each major cycle represent minor cycles. The invention utilizes an electronic circuit to effect such major and minor frequency cycles with existing speaker equipment to project the sound. The electronic circuit includes one or more complex variable rate pulse oscillators wherein the variability of the oscillator is flexible so that it can be programmed internally, or controlled by the speed of the vehicle, or controlled by an operator, or dependent on other circuitry in the unit, or random.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1977Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Assignee: Industrial Electronics Service Co.Inventors: Richard F. Patent number: 4082668Abstract: An ultrafiltration cell utilizing two membranes with a magnetic stirring bar system in between. This permits stacking of stirred cells and doubles the efficiency of each cell. Automatic stop to prevent drying is accomplished by employing a floating valve. When using compressed gas for pressure filtration, the floating valve sinks when empty and the valve mechanically stops gas pressure. When an electric motor pump is used, the floating valve keeps a switch on by pressing it upwards and shuts it off when it sinks. The switch could be magnetically or mechanically operated by the floating valve.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1973Date of Patent: April 4, 1978Inventors: Rashid Ayoub Zeineh, Richard Arthur Finley
