Abstract: This invention relates to substituted N-benzotriazoles of the formula ##STR1## in which: R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3,R.sup.4, R.sup.5,R.sup.6, R.sup.7, X are as defined in the specification. The compounds exhibit herbicidal activity.
Abstract: Herbicidal 3-substituted pyridine compounds and derivatives thereof of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar is a substituted or unsubstituted 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl group having 1, 2 or 3 ring nitrogen atoms with the remainder of the ring atoms being carbon; a substituted or unsubstituted 5-membered heteroaryl group having a ring heteroatom of oxygen or sulfur with the remainder of the ring atoms being carbon; or a substituted or unsubstituted 5-membered heteroaryl group having one ring nitrogen atom and either an oxygen or sulfur ring heteroatom with the remainder of the ring atoms being carbon. Herbicidal compositions containing such 3-substituted pyridine compounds and derivatives thereof and methods of controlling undesirable vegetation employing these compounds and derivatives are also disclosed. The compounds in which XR is hydroxyl are also useful as intermediates for producing the disclosed 3-substituted pyridine derivatives.

Abstract: The invention relates to toxins from venom of Australian funnel web spider species. Eight toxins are specifically exemplified. The toxins have a molecular weight of approximately 4000 amu., containing 36-37 amino acids, and are capable of forming 3 intrachain disulphide bridges. Polynucleotides which encode the toxins, insect viruses and plants which express the toxins and variants of the toxins are also included.

Abstract: A method of controlling the growth of plants comprising applying to the locus of such plants an herbicidally effective amount of a compound exhibiting an IC.sub.50 value of less than about 300 nM in the inhibition of farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase in daffodil chromoplasts.
Abstract: The viability of bacterial cells after drying is improved by aging the culture in the stationary phase for periods of around six hours prior to drying. Further improvement may be obtained by culturing in a nitrogen deficient medium. The bacterial cells accumulate trehalose to protect the cells against drying out and other cell damage and the medium is further defined as having a higher than normal osmotic potential.
Abstract: Herbicidal compositions containing a bisphosphonic acid compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein n is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6, or an agrochemically acceptable salt or hydrolyzable ester thereof and methods of controlling undesirable plant growth using these bisphosphonic acid containing compositions. The herbicidal compositions exhibit desirable efficacy when applied to plants post-emergence, but exhibit little significant activity when applied to plants pre-emergence. Novel aza-bisphosphonic acid compounds are also disclosed.
