  • Patent number: 6399692
Abstract: A tire tread composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a vulcanizable elastomer suitable for use in a tire; from about 1 to about 100 parts by weight of a silica reinforcing filler, per 100 parts of the elatomer; and from about 0.1 to 15 parts by weight of an electrically conductive additive containing a poly(alkylene oxide)-containing polymer having a alkali metal salt dissolved therein, per 100 parts of the elastomer provides improved electrical conductivity properties. A pneumatic tire having improved electrostatic dissipation employing the tire tread composition described above and a related method for dissipating electrostatic charges from tires using the tread composition is also discussed.

  • Patent number: 6369138
Abstract: A processable rubber stock is produced by the preparation of a silica-filled, vulcanized elastomeric compound comprising mixing an elastomer with an amorphous silica filler, a processing aid comprising fatty acid ester of a polyol, optionally an additional mineral filler, and a cure agent. The elastomer is preferably a diene monomer homopolymer or a copolymer of at least one diene and at least one monovinyl aromatic monomer. By effecting vulcanization, a vulcanized elastomeric compound is produced containing good physical properties for use as tread stock for a pneumatic tire.

  • Patent number: 6349753
Abstract: A tire component comprising a plurality of elastomers, where at least one of said elastomers has a functional group defined by the formula where R1 is selected from the group consisting of a divalent alkylene group, an oxy-alkylene group, an amino alkylene group, and a substituted alkylene group, each group having from about 6 to about 20 carbon atoms, and R2 is covalently bonded to the elastomer and is selected from the group consisting of a linear-alkylene group, a branched-alkylene group, and a cyclo-alkylene group, each group having from about 2 to about 20 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 6313232
Abstract: A method of continuously polymerizing a conjugated diene monomer and a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon monomer in a hydrocarbon solvent by using an organolithium initiator, adding to the polymerization mixture a tin compound and again adding a tin compound after the polymerization mixture has been withdrawn from the polymerization vessel. The resulting diene polymers possess a significantly reduced Payne Effect and a substantial reduction (over 10%) in tan delta at 50° C. which results in tires having decreased hysteresis loss, excellent wear resistance and rolling resistance and good wet skid resistance.

  • Patent number: 6292995
Abstract: A method of producing a vibration isolation mount assembly comprising at least one metal bracket member bonded to a volume of a resilient elastomeric material. The bonding of the elastomeric material to the metal bracket is improved by electrostatically spraying the metal brackets with an epoxy coating prior to adhering the rubber to the metal bracket members, but after vulcanization of the rubber material.

  • Patent number: 6279632
Abstract: A method for controlling any increase in Mooney viscosity during aging of siloxane-functionalized polymers includes the step of adding a viscosity stabilizing effective amount of a long chain alcohol preferably selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, and aromatic alcohols having more carbon atoms than the hydrolyzable substituent on the siloxane end groups. The method provides for the stabilization of Mooney viscosity of siloxane-functionalized polymers at any given level upon aging. The long chain alcohols react with the siloxane-functionalized polymers prior to hydrolysis of the siloxane end groups to form moisture stabilized polymers.

  • Patent number: 6265454
Abstract: Old, spent or worn tires are recycled by removing non-rubber components such as belts, beads, and fabric, and grinding the remaining cured rubber into fine sized particles. The ground particles generally replace equivalent amounts of rubber and additives in various tire formulated components such as tire treads. Good physical properties of the end product are retained.
