  • Patent number: 8328106
Abstract: A Standard Size Convertible Transaction Card Assembly includes a conventional transaction card of standard size and a keychain size transaction card of reduced “key-tag” size which is formed from a delineated portion of the standard size transaction card and separable there-from, wherein the keychain size transaction card contains all readable transaction information required to consummate the intended transaction. The delineation may be a printed line, demarcation, a line-of-weakness or perforation, such that the keychain size transaction card can be separated from the standard size transaction card manually, or with the assist of tools. The consumer can use the Standard Size Convertible Transaction Card Assembly as a conventional, standard size transaction card or separate the keychain size transaction card at the delineation for use as an independent keychain size transaction card.

  • Patent number: 8131557
Abstract: A system is disclosed for facilitating speech recognition and transcription among users employing incompatible protocols for generating, transcribing, and exchanging speech. The system includes a system transaction manager that receives a speech information request from at least one of the users. The speech information request includes formatted spoken text generated using a first protocol. The system also includes a speech recognition and transcription engine, which communicates with the system transaction manager. The speech recognition and transcription engine receives the speech information request from the system transaction manager and generates a transcribed response, which includes a formatted transcription of the formatted speech. The system transmits the response to the system transaction manager, which routes the response to one or more of the users. The latter users employ a second protocol to handle the response, which may be the same as or different than the first protocol.

  • Patent number: 8096437
Abstract: A disposable, segmented, sorbent, steam-permeable, cooking utensil cover for selectively covering foodstuffs in a stovetop cooking utensil, having upstanding sidewalls which terminate at a rim. The cover has sufficient wet-strength to render it rigid. The edge of the cover contacts the rim of the cooking utensil to cover contained foodstuffs and support the rigid cover. The cover is made of steam-permeable, sorbent, fire-retardant material to allow cooking steam to escape, while grease spatter and cooking juices are absorbed; and, to prevent combustion of the cover due to its proximity to the stove heating element. The cover contains a plurality of radial slits to form liftable segments hinged at the cover center to allow independent elevation of a selected segment. A flip-up handle for removing the cover and adhesive lift tabs to facilitate lifting and securing the segments are provided. Once utilized, the entire cover assembly is discarded.

  • Patent number: 7762179
Abstract: A system and method for the non-deleterious acceleration of aging wine or spirits is described. The system employs a device, internal or external to the aging barrel, to induce a motion of the wine or spirits to be aged in excess of that inherent in the traditional aging process. The aging of wine or spirits is non-deleteriously accelerated by artificially increasing the movement of the liquid at the interface of the liquid and a semi-permeable wine aging container by mechanical means located internal or external to the semi-permeable container. In one aspect, the device is inserted into the barrel such as an impeller to mechanically move the Wine at the boundary layer, or a circulating for pump for hydraulic agitation. In another aspect, the device is exterior the barrel or container such as an external pump or fluidizer. Advantageously, the liquid is moved in a circular motion such that the liquid scrubs the barrel surface, while admixing the liquid by eddy currents.
