  • Patent number: 4106871
Abstract: Apparatus for holding a master microfiche in contact with a copy sheet of film in a machine that includes rollers for moving the copy sheet onto the master and then off of it towards a developing station. The holder includes a base or lower frame containing a glass plate, and an upper frame that can move away from the lower frame to enable the insertion of the master between the upper frame and the glass plate. The upper frame includes thin rollers rotatably mounted about a vertical axis and having peripheral portions lying over the edge of a master on the lower frame. A transport roller for feeding a copy film onto the master, can bear against the periphery of the thin roller, so that the copy film is captured between the two rollers to facilitate its movement. The frame can be lifted by pivoting down a handle at one side of the holder, which slides a pair of rods with camming portions that move against the upper frame to lift it.

  • Patent number: 4106062
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for producing magnetically encoded articles such as credit cards. Data from a master or other source is recorded on an elongated web carrying magnetically encodable material which is secured to a card blank or other article. Data from the master tape is stored in a memory and held for comparison with recorded data to verify correct recording. In the absence of a proper comparison the data is inserted from memory and recorded on the next card blank, which is then placed in the proper sequential position in the output stack.

  • Patent number: 4092160
Abstract: An ion modulator having a bias electrode is capable of producing copies in which the contrast and background are controllable. Such modulator functions in a process which utilizes an adjustable charge density applied to set up uniform fringing fields of the desired magnitude which block ions directed towards background (light) areas. Funneling fields are set up in image (dark) areas in opposition to the original fringing fields by simultaneous imaging and ion projection, decreasing the effect of such fringing fields and permitting ions to pass through the modulator in image areas.

  • Patent number: 4023592
Abstract: A self-priming pump is provided for metering a positive controlled amount of a volatile liquid to a utilization device. The pump comprises a piston means for pumping the liquid from a liquid supply container to a chamber, and from the chamber to a reservoir where the liquid is maintained at a uniform and constant level by an overflow port which drains any excess liquid back to the liquid supply container. The liquid remaining in the reservoir flows through an outlet passage to a well from which the liquid is dispensed in metered units under control of an adjustable needle valve. The needle valve is provided for controlling the rate of feed of the liquid to the utilization device, and is accessible for adjusting the liquid flow while the pump is in operation. The reservoir is also provided with vent means to prevent impediment of liquid flow and, also, to permit liquid flow immediately in response to initial start-up and operation of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4010478
Abstract: A purging system is provided for reducing and substantially eliminating contaminants, moisture, residual gas and the like from a work station such as, for example, a developer station in which ammonia gas is used for development of diazo type films. The system includes a check valve connected between one end of the developer station and a supply of compressed air, and a 3-way valve connected between the other end of the developer station and a supply of ammonia gas and an ammonia exhaust container. During development, the ammonia is passed into the developer station under a relatively high pressure and the flow of the ammonia is stopped by the check valve. After development, the pressure in the developer station is lowered thereby opening the check valve and causing flow of air from the supply of compressed air through the developer station, the 3-way valve, and into the exhaust container to thereby purge the entire system of contaminants, moisture and residual ammonia gas.

  • Patent number: 4008483
Abstract: A cassette is provided for manually transporting a sheet of photographic film from one station to another without exposing the film to ambient light. The cassette comprises a light-tight enclosure provided at one end with a pair of rollers and at the other end with a resilient light seal. The rollers are adapted to be rotated in response to engagement with driven rollers associated with one station for advancing a film sheet into the cassette. The film sheet is positioned within the enclosure with a lead end thereof protruding from the resilient light seal. The cassette is then carried to another station where the lead end of the film is adapted to be inserted into a pair of driven rollers associated with another station for withdrawing the film sheet from the cassette.
