  • Patent number: 5762877
Abstract: The present invention advances a chemical concentrating device for use with thin layer chromatographic, gas chromatographic, high pressure liquid chromatographic, and capillary electrophoresis analysis. The concentrating device has a T-shaped member having a first and second annular branch in axial alignment and a third branch perpendicular to the first and second branches. When used in thin layer chromatographic analysis, the T-shaped member is placed over the syringe needle with the end of the needle extending below the second branch. A gas source in fluid communication with the third branch forwards gas in an annular pattern about the end of the needle, thereby evaporating the solvent within the sample and confining the sample to a particular geometrical area on the thin layer chromatography plate. When used with other chromatographic techniques, the T-shaped member is removably affixed to a syringe needle having a beveled end.

  • Patent number: 5740267
Abstract: A system for processing a radiograph such as an x-ray includes a scanner, a computer with monitor for displaying a digital copy of the radiograph and pet-forming a number of enhancements. The computer stores the digitized image in memory in such a way that it cannot be modified, stores temporarily a second copy of the image in random access memory for display, and stores the enhancements separately in a data file so that, each time the user wishes to see an enhanced image, the enhancements are applied to the displayed digital image as an overlay, rather than being stored as a copy of the enhanced image. Less space is required for storage when only the unenhanced image and the enhancements are stored than if the unenhanced and the enhanced images are stored. Furthermore, not only is the unenhanced image available for a variety of purposes (stored in such a way that it cannot be modified), but the enhancements that are made to produce the enhanced, displayed image are reproduced the same way each time.

  • Patent number: 5725135
Abstract: A holster worn by a shooter for supporting a broken barrel shotgun. The holster is preferably constructed from a first and a second piece of leather. The second piece of leather has a lobe and a cut-out portion so that when the two pieces of leather have been molded, an opening is defined at the lobe. The two pieces of leather also form a belt loop within the holster so that it can be worn by a shooter. The trigger guard of the shotgun is inserted into the opening with the barrel extending toward the ground approximately parallel to the shooter's leg. The trigger guard rests against the second piece of leather with the stock extending over the cut-out portion, so that the lobe will prevent the shotgun from falling away from the shooter. Therefore, in this position the shotgun is supported in a safe and secure manner without the shooter having to manually support the gun.

  • Patent number: 5724911
Abstract: A cushion for a pet, preferably a cat, comprising a bed formed from a sheet comprising a plurality of layers of raw unwoven, uncovered polyester. Each layer comprises a solid first fiber and a second fiber that has a core and a sheath surrounding the core. The sheath has a lower melting temperature than the core. The sheet is then heated to the temperature, where the sheath of the second fiber melts and sticks to the adjacent fiber, whether a first or a second fiber, and is then cooled until the second fiber solidifies, attached to the adjacent fiber. The resulting material is a matted web of layered, electrostatic fibers that is subsequently cut into a right cylinder having a closed end of suitable size, such as large enough to accommodate a sleeping cat. The cylinder wall is then folded down on itself from its open end to form an annular upright wall having an inside layer and an outside layer, where the outside layer compresses the inside layer to form a more rigid wall.

  • Patent number: 5715745
Abstract: The present invention is a food storage cabinet that develops and maintains a warm, humid environment in its interior for storage of the food. The food is supported within a storage compartment in the cabinet, and a water bath is provided to produce the warm, humid environment to keep the food warm and moist. A support is positioned within the storage compartment at an angle so that when the door to the storage compartment is opened, ambient air enters the storage compartment and initiates air flow therein. The ambient air drops down through a front gap between the support and the front wall of the storage compartment, thus causing warm, humid air generated by the water bath to rise through a rear gap and "roll" over the food toward the front of the storage compartment. Therefore, by opening the door to the storage compartment, air flow is initiated within the storage compartment to quickly cover the food in warm, humid air.

  • Patent number: 5715995
Abstract: A rotatable mailbox arm having a rotatable indicator carried by its distal end. The indicator, such as a disk that carries information, a reflector, a decoration or advertising, is attached to the arm from an off center point on its rear surface so that it rotates in a direction counter to the rotation of the arm. Counter rotation of the indicator maintains the orientation of the indicator so that what is carried on it is in its normal orientation regardless of the position of the mailbox arm.

  • Patent number: 5713101
Abstract: A nozzle and container cleaning system for rinsing and washing the interior of a flexible container. The system comprises a bulk bag dispenser having a concentric reducer and a pair of nozzles. The nozzles comprise an inner and outer cylinder, where the outer cylinder penetrates through the wall of the reducer, so that it communicates with the interior of the bag. The inner cylinder has a conduit and is slidably mounted within the outer cylinder and has an extended and retracted position. The conduit is connected to a fluid source which provides a pressurized fluid, either liquid or gas. The fluid is forced through a set of orifices in the inner cylinder and into the interior of the bag when the inner cylinder is between its two positions, thus expanding and rinsing the interior of the bag. The orifices have a notch positioned proximate to where the orifices exit the inner cylinder to better adjust the spray pattern of the fluid.

  • Patent number: 5711337
Abstract: A party tent has a frame that includes an inner frame supported above an outer frame by a plurality of truss members. The inner frame is smaller than the outer frame in at least one dimensional aspect so that the span across the inner frame is less than the span across the outer frame. In the preferred embodiment, at least one cross member extends across the inner frame and supports a vertical member that extends away from the surface. During the assembly, the internal frame of the tent is put together so that the covering can be placed over this frame while it is at a height of less than six feet. The vertical members are then erected under the covering, thus lifting and stretching the covering for an aesthetically pleasing appearance. After the internal frame, vertical members, and covering are in place, a series of legs is positioned under the tent, thus supporting the tent in a normal fashion.
